OMG, the nostalgia! I discovered so many bands on this show. Bright Eyes, Postal Service, The Shins, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Yeah Yeah Yeahs... those were the days.
I love how this guy who writes these amazing songs for this amazing band can be so shy, down to earth and so honest with himself and everyone else in these interviews and in general. It doesn't seem like he's trying to impress anyone and it's not awkward, it's real. I love it.
i wouldnt be suprised if he was a influence on conor. i know robert is on my music. but i dont know why someone hit thumbs down on your comment i think it was a good analogy.
i am a songwriter/drummer/singer/guitar, bass, piano, dj, french horn, harmonica, cuatro, trumpet, beat box, lyricist from nyc and i have no trouble speaking but that my friend is badass. especially if you don't suck at life, which i would assume you dont
O yea and i managed to shake mikes hand at there oxford brooks concert and at birmingham got to touch conor when he jumped into the crowd. search on youtube "conor jumps into crowd"
this is a prime example why he dosent do many interviews or avoids them...he's always so aqward in them ..poor conor :((( i just want to give him a hug
"Oh no! It's smells musty." You just have to appreciate their honesty and awkward inept interviews they have. It's not at all a bad thing, it's actually quite good.
I was so excited about Conor and Mike in the same interview! Wish the interviewer kept it more lively. At least they were on MTV at all though... Highly doubt they would interview them now.
@MasterOuiukiske No there is just a lot of other things he wants to say but he cant be upfront about whats on his mind. Read his music to know his mind, will take a long time.
I know... but I love that awkwardness. It's very endearing, how normal and polite they are. The whole I'm a rock star" thing isn't present. Lol, "there were people, in an orchestrated fashion...."
everybodies focusing on bright eyes (obviously) so i think im the only here that actually misses the "subteranean" on mtv2 it was such a great idea cause they use to have times for different music, like metal at 11 at night, spanking new in the afternoon, subteranean, top ten, occasionally they would play different genres of underground and mainstream from 2am till 6am.. good times.
@BoyBornPoet This interview was taken around 2003/2004, and Give Up is the album by the Postal Service that they're referring to which came out around the same time. Also, the music video i would imagine they're referring to is The District Sleeps Alone Tonight which was released in 2003, and they could just be mistaken; however Such Great Heights's music video was released in 2004 (not 2010). Lastly, the musical scenes that those two bands came from have a lot in common as far as DIY and genre
i love the string around conors neck. and the way he always ties his sweatshirt. lets be honest. the kids got style. and it bothers me how this guy ask's them the completey wrong questions.
I agree, Omaha could be the most concentrated talent in the country. However, Long Island always has a lot of talent and if you have the means check out St. Louis indie scene. Get on myspace and check out Say Panther, Berlin Whale, So Many Dynamos, Jumbling Towers, Thankful Tree, Sunday Artist. Great stuff.
@MrTatershot listen to some of conors more recent interviews and try and say that same thing again. He by far gives the most in depth and just plain awesome answers then anyone ive ever seen interview before. He's given answers before that make me stay up at night thinking.
True but it looks like the exact same design that the pirate bay shirts were...maybe that already existed as a universal sign of supporting piracy though? It's a shame that the piratebay is going downhill.
Yeah Conor's pretty fucked up in this which isn't surprising but he's still amazing. I heard he's somewhat clean now and looks great. I could be wrong though, idk.
Is it just me that imagines Conor with long hair when its short, to see if he would look the same as when his hair was long?....no....just me...Ok. forget I ever said that!
I love that the dude tried to make his coinage of calling Mogis the "Dr. Dre of Indie" sound like it wasn't his idea...like people say it all the time. But then admitted he came up with it five mins before the interview. Who hired this clown?
Oh, wow, I commented on how he looks so much different now, and how I liked it better when he had this style. God forbid. "i play bass, i hate everyone that is better then me" And I'm the loser? Good game.
OMG, the nostalgia! I discovered so many bands on this show. Bright Eyes, Postal Service, The Shins, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Yeah Yeah Yeahs... those were the days.
What a beautiful boy
Does anyone else find Conor really adorable in this video?
Early 00s MTV, early 00s music.
Good times
THEE BEST times!!🙌🥺

no one knows how happy it makes me that someone as amazing as conor seems to have the social/speech issues i do.
why the hell would you hold an interview there
ladytron in the background i love it
excellent closing music. Completes the video. But seriously nice clip!
woooooo! I hear Tihiti 80 in the background at 4:00.......
I loved it! it's so perfect and awkward!
i fucking... hate "music television".
so glad he still to this day has not sold out
i wouldnt be suprised if he was a influence on conor. i know robert is on my music. but i dont know why someone hit thumbs down on your comment i think it was a good analogy.
Me too. The entire interview I was thinking that this was not the right background music for Bright Eyes.
i am a songwriter/drummer/singer/guitar, bass, piano, dj, french horn, harmonica, cuatro, trumpet, beat box, lyricist from nyc and i have no trouble speaking but that my friend is badass. especially if you don't suck at life, which i would assume you dont
I want conors hair.
his hair gets so wild
I love him so much he's such an awkward person its so cool...
Omaha is a really good music scene
O yea and i managed to shake mikes hand at there oxford brooks concert and at birmingham got to touch conor when he jumped into the crowd. search on youtube "conor jumps into crowd"
I weep for you.
this is a prime example why he dosent do many interviews or avoids them...he's always so aqward in them ..poor conor :((( i just want to give him a hug
you should take the fucking mtv promo that comes up between every question out
take it easy dogg
I love when he ruffles his hair at around 1:45 and for some reason right after that I think he sounds like Robert Smith (...minus the English accent).
I think watching interviews with him are as enjoyable as his songs
"Oh no! It's smells musty."
You just have to appreciate their honesty and awkward inept interviews they have. It's not at all a bad thing, it's actually quite good.
Yooo Ladytron in the background
thanks for posting this. it's cool that saddle creek did end up building a great venue in omaha (the slowdown)
I thought that at first, but i think this was filmed in 2002 and the pirate bay wasn't up yet
"they will see us waving from such great heights." they should cover that
I know... but I love that awkwardness. It's very endearing, how normal and polite they are. The whole I'm a rock star" thing isn't present. Lol, "there were people, in an orchestrated fashion...."
obviously the only way conor can comunicate is through his guitar. If only we were all like that. Conor for god!
its so cute how hes all nervous
he obviously puts words together better with music than in straight conversation
everybodies focusing on bright eyes (obviously) so i think im the only here that actually misses the "subteranean" on mtv2 it was such a great idea cause they use to have times for different music, like metal at 11 at night, spanking new in the afternoon, subteranean, top ten, occasionally they would play different genres of underground and mainstream from 2am till 6am.. good times.
3:06 3:06 3:06 3:06 3:06 3:06 3:06 3:06 3:06 3:06 3:06 3:06
Omg Conor. You're tiny-voice-singing is so cute. LOL
the interviewer looks like the kind of guy would beat conor and mike up in high school.
He is so gorgeous and brilliant it just makes me want to die.
I love how they try to answer questions in interviews. It seems to be a little hard for them. lol
"Well...there were a lot of people there...in an orchestrated fashion..."
Where
the
hell
are they
@Grimm1337 Me too :)
I love how it seems Conor's so shy and awkward in interviews,
it's very cute.
I wish he was still this way :[
With the look I mean.

Where has 15 years gone?
i love this guy=)
This band though,is even better muahaha
i think that conor is
a great person.. and
he's handsome and talented
love him to death :]
I have mike's hair
Hes wonderfully awkward. And his speaking voice is nice. He almost kinda has a lisp and its adorable. so is he...
why are they in a stairway? and why is everything so green?
whats the song that starts the video?
Haha yeah i was going to ask if that's a piratebay t shirt.
Where the hell are they interviewing them?
it says 03 at the end of the interview, yeah i wouldve thought 03-04 as well.
Why do an interview on a staircase, why, why?
(2 minutes later)
And why put the camera at the bottom of the staircase during the interview?
prob cause he was a lot younger here
at the end, "oh no!" LOL :')
@TaylorJohnsonMusic or vice-versa...
I love Conor at 7:34. "Oh no". Cracks me up. Ha ha.
who actually does an interview in a stairwell. really.
this camera man keeps using these fast pans and zooms to make it seem more intense than it is
@YeahItsPiero this shows still on mtv. its on at 5am tho =/
i agree that .. but he's still very cute :P
what happened to his glasses? does he wear contacts now?
i love the string around conors neck.
and the way he always ties his sweatshirt.
lets be honest.
the kids got style.
and it bothers me how this guy ask's them the completey wrong questions.
@MrTatershot
/watch?v=yXUiYPAn1fc
is a personal favorite of mine
I just recently discovered this, haha :p

awkward and cool simultaneously
For some reason Conor reminds me of Andrew VanWyngarden from MGMT.
@UMmus1c seventeen by Ladytron
I'm debating with myself whether conor is just an awkward type person.
Or if he's just never sober.
Either way, I love his music.
I think the answer after all these years is...he's both.
True but it looks like the exact same design that the pirate bay shirts were...maybe that already existed as a universal sign of supporting piracy though? It's a shame that the piratebay is going downhill.
HIS HAIR. MY GOD IT'S LOVELY. JUST A GREASY DISARRAY. I PERSONALLY LIKE IT.
it's really strange to me that they're playing "Seventeen" by Ladytron in the background. of all the things -- Ladytron. hahahah.
@TaylorJohnsonMusic and they kinda look alike too!
conor oberst looks like milo whatever (peter from heroes) in this. amirite?
lol its funny his slitty shy and he has a hard time expelling things lol he has a grasp of it but can't get it into words lol it awesome ^^
haha i love how he messes up his hair
Yeah Conor's pretty fucked up in this which isn't surprising but he's still amazing. I heard he's somewhat clean now and looks great. I could be wrong though, idk.
That's pretty cool haha, and very ironic, thanks for the mini-history lesson, I appreciate it.
Why does the camera keep panning at Conors hands
"..and theres no like support from the general public" lololol O conor
hmm Conor kinda reminds me of Gerard Way :'o
who decided this was where you should hold an interview?
@robotroxen well.... as long as he makes good music iam good.. :D
More like personal interrogation.
lol that interview seems so awkward its like that interviewer is threatening them to do the interview with a knife
I wish my lawn was emo so it would cut itself.
either conor has lice or he's just not good at the casual hair-ruffle.
cuuute.
@SuperDoctor333 It makes him loveable^^
Oh, wow, I commented on how he looks so much different now,
and how I liked it better when he had this style.
God forbid.
"i play bass, i hate everyone that is better then me"
And I'm the loser?
Good game.
"There were a lot of people there in an orchestrated fashion..on purpose." Hahahaha
Oh, sorry :\
Written sarcasm doesn't go over very well.
It's always taken seriously.
