Meanwhile, Foreman asks for House's permission to work on a clinical trial and House rejects his proposal. In an effort to prove himself capable of working without House's supervision, Foreman takes on his own pediatric case. My life goal is being at my job, co-workers walking in and me yelling "I'M TRYING TO SLEEP HERE" and not being fired.
Well, when they're your sub-ordinates...
🙏🏻
I work at the security in the office building. Every guard here sleeps pretty much all the time so maybe that's the job for you.
Employees* not coworkers
Our workplace has an informal policy of not disturbing one another as long as it's 15 minutes or less.
We work in a very loud industrial setting, and my rationale is if you're tired enough to sleep there, you probably need to take a nap for safety, as long as it's downtime where one would probably just be sitting, on their phone anyway.
Never thought I'd hear House say "Guess I'm the only one who cares about patient rights." Brilliant

I like how her heart rate doesn't increase according to the machine even though the whole narrative of the scene revolves around her increasing anxiety/pressure and even intensity of breathing.
It always gets me when someone is seriously flipping their shit and the heart rate monitor keeps beeping a nice, steady 60 bpm.

I'm always so surprised how House handles talking with patients. He seems like such an antisocial person but when it comes to having a serious discussion like that, he's really effective. If this was said to the wrong person, he could have made the patient cry and spiral and something tells me he knew it was the right person to say it to. He's brutally honest but that doesn't always mean sharp and depending on the patient, he applies a certain level of softness to his delivery. He's either a genius manipulator or he's actually secretly pretty empathetic.
@@dashroodle9507 Could go either way imo. She would've immediately rejected everything he said if he tried to downplay it, but confirming her guilt was out of the norm and got her attention. It would really come down to her personality after that
He needs to be entertaining as a character, likable.
He's both.
A master empath is a master manipulator only difference is how they apply themselves, go figure.
House prods and pokes people a lot and with his acute observation skills he figures out people's personalities quickly; just like any highly intelligent people do. And just like them he doesn't suffer fools.
House doesn't care about dark he gets life is dark. House only gets annoyed at bullshit. Even his own bs too.
It's why he tells 13 their job is figuring out health problem, cant cure stupidity.
Or how he tells them treat the patient, don't treat the patient, treat the patient...He cares as a doctor but he is pragmatic and knows how to not get attached to his patients. Whatever it is get over it and make a choice.
It's why he doesn't sugar coat to the kid. "You want people to tell you it was a mistake or not a big deal. But it is pretty bad and there is no changing that"
Whatever it is, get over it and make a choice. It ties with his leg and how his choice was taken from him.
He's both.

@@Greenfrog-wo7cu Well there is your problem Norton. Far better virus blockers. Norton isn't one of em.
Sooo...from the sounds of it she didn't intentionally kill her brother. She says, "I was supposed to watch him." That makes it sound like she was just distracted while he was in the bath tub and, when she wasn't looking, something happened to make him drown. And she's been in a spiral ever since. House's reaction to findung out about her brother. Dude looked like he got punched in the face on that one.
We’re just gonna ignore that she forged I’d papers, possibly compromising a random little girl and made a false rape accusation? On top of lying and killing her brother. What would be the legal consequences for a minor?
Prison sentence of at least 14 years depending on state laws. 14 would be the minimum.
I don't think the real parents would press charges.
@@SunilKumar-zd5kq depends on severity
Finally someone said it...
She was so unsympathetic. Pure selfishness. Everything was about her. Her parents feelings didn't matter just hers. Broke her parents hearts and was fully willing to put them through the same thing to make herself feel better. Was fully willing to say her father raped her and her mother was implicit to make herself feel better.
I don't care that she was a teenager. She was old enough to know what she was doing was wrong.
House: what's worse then rape?
Me: I'd like to know the answer to this
Little Girl: I killed my brother
Me: yup.... that's definitely worse
i absolutely love when you get to see House's heart it makes loving him all the more worth it
4:49) The explanation she would have to give for the confusion would be as frightening as it is awkward. "I'm sorry. Your daughter doesn't have leukemia. I'm treating a patient who I now discover have been using your daughter's identity for their own benefit."
Liars lie because they're too scared to see what happens when the truth comes out
Or they couldn't be bothered to deal with what happens when the truth comes out, it's kinda the point of lying, also no such thing as Liars, it's just humans.

House: What’s worse than rape?

>takes her out of the lie detector before asking about if her parents are alive
>suddenly believes she isnt lying after no longer being able to prove it either way
10:04 WOW and people said House was not able able to feel empathy. This episode and the episode "One Day, One Room" showed how deep he felt for his patients sometimes. And yes, he's blunt but he's also constructive with his words. He pushed patients to do the right thing because he, more than anyone, knew how pain can push you to make the wrong decision. No other TV drama character will ever be as complex as House is, and my total respect and admiration to Hugh Laurie for bringing House to life the way he did.
7:27 the way house figured out she was lying is sooooo good

@@lindam.6782 ...you really don't feel any sympathy for her? I'm kind of impressed. Yes, she lied about something awful, but her true trauma was an accident and she's clearly suffering

I don't think I've cried so much since 10 minutes ago when I watched another House clip.
I hate that nobody ever tells this girl her brother's death wasn't her fault. SHE didn't kill him. her parents' negligence did. THEY are the adults, SHE was a child. they should not have put that responsibility on her and should've been criminally charged in the boy's death
girl looks old enough to be responsible for a small sibling tbh
It's not her fault but it's undeniable she had a part in it. The difference here is that she didn't do it directly but that doesn't absolve her of that guilt
I mean I’m not saying it’s her fault but she is definitely old enough to take care of a small sibling for at least a bath session

First time I saw House actually have emotions when talking to a patient
This is a great example and combination of everybody lies, and to remain objective regardless of your emotions. 13 felt betrayed, but it was her own fault for rushing to believe her after she lied. Tough spot to be in

As a big sister this is my biggest fear. Accidentally killing a sibling. God.
Taub pulling the "Huntington's" stunt was so unintentionally funny :D I don't know even why, but it was.
I love house because he can be rude but he can also be sympathetic while still not sugar coating things. He tells the reality of the situation not to be mean but solely because its better than lying about the reality of the situation to make someone believe a lie

This is one of the few times house just deflates. All his bravado and pompous arrogance and air is just Gone once the truth is told to him. And he isn’t exactly comforting, but he does Comfort her and get her to make the right choice.
Those who believe House is an absolute sociopath think again. Sociopaths lack empathy. But at 10:04 you can see him empathizing with that patient. Since everyone believes he is a sociopath he pretends to be one too.
Like he said to that girl. He is just a little boy with whom no one wants to play so he pretends that he needs no one.
He's a narcissist, not a sociopath
Hugh Laurie is such an amazing actor.

Ar- Are you dead?

It really messes with your head.....on a regular basis.
One of the very few times house is visibly emotional around a patient always interesting
House should just chuck every patient he gets into the scanner to get the full medical history, cuts out most of the BS in every episode lol
The last scene revolving around "what. did. you. do." Is just... heartbreaking. Having to admit that you screwed up that horribly, and not being able to forgive yourself for it, but having a doctor directly ask you to make a confession when you don't even want to save yourself, and wishing you were better off dead. Not wanting treatment because you just want to die, because you can't face what you did, even if it was an accident.
I've been in the hospital for many different things, but that... would have broke me in half. Being put under that kind of questioning, that stressfully.

I've seen this episode plenty of times, but watching this clip is the first time I've noticed that House looks really sad upon hearing her story.

The hardest part of this episode is that she was willing to say her dad raped her because she caused her brother to die. I understand guilt, but why would you hurt someone else like that?
Because it doesn't actually hurt him? They don't know who the dad is at that point, the accusation is against someone that doesn't actually exist
