This was a great walk down memory lane. I’m 30 and one of these was my first cell phone. Gotta say I felt pretty advanced at 12 with one of these in my pocket. Probably wouldn’t have pestered my mom for one so much if I knew how much time I’d be spending on a phone in the future!
Wished more tech companies allowed for plug and play with their technology. Older technology was just what it needed to be and nothing more, it was great.
Still have my old 32 and 3310 in a drawer somewhere at home, has a ton of shell and button swaps. Easily the beat series of thr most user friendly phone designs ever 👌
Back in my day they were made with 2 plastic cups connected by a string. You could use them to talk to your best mate who had to conveniently live next to you
Not my first phone ever , but like 2nd or 3rd & loved it back then. My grandmother who passed 4yrs ago went to our local mall for shopping , movie & food. She was the best grandma, anyway she would always surprise us with more stuff, like granny you got us so much already clothes , videos games, movie, food , etc. Anyway I'm rambling, she brought us over to phone place & bought me & my sis that phone Elliot. Love ur work my dude & ur video, keep them coming 👍
Oh yeah.. old phone cases 🥰 Back in my days I worked in a paint shop and made a lot of fancy colors for me and my friends. As they won't need much color, I had a bit of a charter from my boss to do so, at least if I won't do hundred😁 And look at us now: we hardly can't change a battery in our new phones without big tech🙄
I remember using my Sony Ericsson K800i for as long as I could. It's amazing how capable it was when it was the only phone I had. Ran Facebook, RUclips, music, movies
love the 3310. i carried this while lodging + hiking in the retezat mountains in 2013, and i was one of the only ones that got usable signal. amazing phone.
Oh my days! I'm old enough to remember when these were the nuts, and going to a shop, or even better the market to get various snap on covers to be individual made you soooo cool!! There were shops and market stalls that only catered to this! Great trip down memory lane!!
the watching you repair and be excited is always so much fun i used to have that phone but i never liked the after market shells/buttons, because they were way less precise and felt kinda mushy.
This was so awesome to see 😂 such sweet nostalgia! I 100% agree we've gone backwards in tech. Not just in repair but also in design and aesthetic. You don't see a lot of colors and eye catching designs anymore!
The nostalgia hit me hard, almost like these phones would hit the floor lmao Aw man, if only these still worked with modern chips, I would gladly have my old Nokia back.
I do miss those old Nokia Xpress-on covers. I remember markets and bargain stores being awash with them, or at least knockoff versions. Which were fine. Not only could you make your phone a personalized item, but they extended the lifespan of a perfectly working phone, by allowing a simple and cheap method of refreshing the appearance once one was starting to look weather-worn. Couple of quid, your phone's as good as new. So many phones are binned now, purely because they start looking tatty after a year or two of use.
Actually, the leaking pixels on that type of LCD screen are reversable. I have a Japanese import Game Boy Pocket that had a splotch of pixel leakage near the center of the screen. By actually using it, the screen fixed itself over time. It's not perfect, but it's better than when I got it.
I think i might have had that same issue with my iPod Nano 4G! When i got it, there were multiple streaks of black pixels down at the bottom, after a month or two of using it, it fixed. This was back in 2021 / 2022 by the way.
Wow. I can't believe how easy that was! I have an old of clamshell phone that looks brand new that I've always wanted to try to use but I need to buy a charger. You've inspired me ha. Also, that screwdriver is awesome!
Ah, Nokia 3310, my first phone and the best phone ever. Texting was super easy, I could type messages without looking at the screen. Elliot, just be careful not to drop it, it will crack your floor.
I really miss my Nokia 3220. It has blinking light up side grips and you could get plates for it that had light in them as well. Nicest little phone I ever had.
my first phone was the Nokia 3310. I felt so grown up having one. used to send picture messages to my sister, the ones that could "move" like a GIF were my favourite and collecting the fascias (cases) and swapping them out every so often :) my favourite game was snake 2 and I beat it so many times.
I remember in the early 00s when I was still in primary school, my older sister had a Nokia like this and she would always accessorise hers with different cases, stick on crystals and phone charms. We shared a room and I remember falling asleep to the blue glow of her phone while she played snake and texted her friends. So nostalgic.
Been collecting old Nokias for around a decade, really love the older models as they are very modular and quite easy to repair. Kudos on fixing yours! 💯
I still have my Nokia 8210, it was the first GSM phone when ATT Wireless switched to GSM from TDMA. It works still able to make calls and play games! Nokia really was ahead in the 1990's sadly with them putting all the money behind Symbian OS and the NGAGE really hurt them. I have had multiple phone from Nokia through out the years but the 8210 was the only one I kept. Glad to seeing this phone getting love
i used this phone actually back in 2001-2003 and it was amazing and the whole life was better back in then, just calls, sms and some crazy picture messages.. nowadays people feel suffocated if they forget the phone at home.. this addiction it's really bad. miss those days
I had this phone in high school. And even had it customized with all transparent case, main frame, battery and blue led lights on the screen and keypad. Also, had the screen inverted
Thanks for taking it apart and showing us how serviceable this phone is. Not that I had any doubt about it, but it's good to have proof. Now that you got the thing up and running, have fun! Take it with you skateboarding, cycling, freerunning, whatever you fancy doing, cuz this phone is not gonna feel heavy in your pocket and it's certainly not going to fall apart. 💪Fuck social media and TikTok and all that crap! People have forgotten how to have fun outside without any technology.
You made the video about the Nokia! Great! Thank you Elliot. You may look for some phones to refurb and this can become a series. There are interesting phones such as Nokia N-Gage, Sony Xperia Play, Nokia 5200, Nokia 3220, Blackberry Phones, Motorola Razr.
So nostalgic and love the case! Those were the good days when a phone was a phone and lasted well over a week on a charge. Plug the thing in indestructible.
My Mother is 77, and she has one like that for ages, i have a new one for replacement but even if she lives 100 or more that wont be needed, these old Nokias were built to last forever!
I wish they would release something like a Nokia 1100, with that same old screen, but with 3G/4G support, maybe also with LTE calls and the ability to share the data connection via hotspot.
That brings me memories... I remember I used to make a lot of ringtones using a website back then... I had Saria Song as my main tone!!... Ahhhh good times!!... Good times!! ☺️
I think literally everyone owned one of these style Nokia's (this or a model like it) back in the day. Then the Motorola Razr came out and when it became affordable I think everyone had one of those for a while too. The repairability of that thing is incredible. You won't see anything like that made today!
People used to take this phone to a shop where a repairman replaced the LED's to have any vibrant colour(or whatever is desired) to make it look cool. Mine had red for the buttons and blue for the screen.
Takes me back to when I was in high school with one of these, working at the mall selling cinnamon rolls making 7$ an hour, thought I had it all figured out haha
hold the phone a minute!...since when did snake use the 'up' and 'down' arrow? i always played with the number pad as in 2,4,6,8 for the controls, wow you learn something new everyday, love this type of video, real nostalgia, thanks Elliot 💯 👍
Always did. I used the numbers when I had the 3310 but I got the 8310 later and the numbers weren't in such good positions for playing so I switched to the arrows.
Nice. These were bullet proof AF. From a time when phones broke other things. I had this after a 5110 which was my first phone....after owning a pager as a teenager :/ The 8210 was great too. I remember having to use the phone network and SMS just to set up a custom screensaver and it seemed like witchcraft at the time! :) Before easy access to the internet, well before even the crazy frog infiltrated phones.

Just because the repair is more difficult it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Comparing 3310 to any contemporary smartphone is like saying repairing the bike is easier than repairing a car. Well of course it’s more difficult because there are more elements, and components are smaller. Screens słone probably have more tech than whole 3310.
