  • As a local who has lived in Prague for years, we know all the common tourist scams and traps to avoid in order to have a smooth and enjoyable trip to the city. In this video, we'll take you on a tour of Prague's Old Town and share the top 10 things you should avoid doing as a tourist, including buying overpriced souvenirs, eating at touristy restaurants, using sketchy ATMs and money exchanges, and falling victim to various scammers. So be careful and don't do these things in this video
But don't worry, we won't just leave you with a list of things to avoid. We'll also give you alternative ideas of what to do in Prague so you can make the most of your trip without losing your money. From visiting the iconic Prague Castle and Charles Bridge, to exploring the beautiful city of Cesky Krumlov, there are plenty of amazing experiences to be had in the Czech Republic.
So if you're planning a visit to Prague and want to avoid the tourist traps and scams, be sure to watch this video for our honest and helpful advice. We'll also share some tips on what to do and see in the city, as well as some lesser-known gems that are worth a visit. Don't miss out on all the amazing things Prague has to offer - watch this video and make the most of your trip!"

First on our list is buying overpriced souvenirs from shiny shops in the Old Town. These shops may look appealing, but you'll end up paying a lot more for souvenirs than you would elsewhere. Instead, head to the Havelske Market where you'll find plenty of souvenirs at more reasonable prices. Plus, shopping at the market is always a fun experience!
Next, be careful when using ATMs and money exchange places. Some places may offer you a lower exchange rate or try to scam you by offering rubles instead of Czech crowns. Make sure to shop around and don't go for the first place you see in the Prague Old Town Square. Look for bank ATMs instead, and you'll get a fair exchange rate. Also avoid Euro net machines or written atm in big text. Look for Czech bank atms & u can use card in most shops and places
Another scam to watch out for is street performers and costume guys who will try to take a picture with you and then demand payment. These types of scams are now illegal, but you may still come across them in the city. Just avoid taking pictures with them altogether.
If you're a smoker, be aware that smoking is not allowed indoors in Czech bars and restaurants. You'll have to smoke outside, so make sure to dress accordingly. And while we're on the subject of restaurants, avoid the touristy ones in the center of the city. They're often overpriced and not as good as the smaller, local restaurants.
When it comes to tipping, make sure to leave at least 10%. Customer service can vary in Prague, but tipping is a good way to show your appreciation for good service.
And if you have a sweet tooth, don't buy candy from the touristy shops.
Avoid thai massage - ruins the city center

Hi Nish, thank you for shearing great tips. Usually, Evey country at the center be more expensive. I was at Rome last year and went for walk outside the center and I found the food quality was much better and cheaper too.

Was it difficult to get drone footages in Prague to get aerial clips? Do you know if a small 249 gram drone, one needs to register and get permission to fly ahead of time? Hoping to return to Prague soon and create aerial videos. Thank you

Great video, very helpful! I’ll be in Prague for four nights/five days in June, so how much Czech Koruna do you recommend taking for food, drinks, transport etc.? And should I pay in cash only? Thanks. 😊

I was born and raised in Prague but have been living in US for many years. When i actually visited my country and went to Prague i felt very uneasy and truly resent all these scammers trying to get at you at every turn. Although i speak the language fluently i know I don’t look like a native. Honestly I really can’t be bothered with all that, i live in NYC and you really don’t get none of that annoyance here. Nobody hassles you, nobody trying to get over on you. I hear lot of foreigners love Prague but I wonder who wants to put up with this small time scammers stuff especially on your vacation. Definitely not me. Oh got charged more at a hotel in the country because i had US passport. But this seems to be also European practice i heard, also having a different menu for foreigners. Let me say this, US had plenty of beautiful places to visit. 50 states to pick from and no hassle. 👍Can’t beat that.

and I'm Czech too. It is unfortunate foreigners are taken advantage of. They should be ashamed! After living under communism for over 40 yrs this is what it's taught them It will take a life time to recover. Yes they take advantage of tourists then again their own people could not afford the prices. Low wages etc. Unfortunately it is what communism taught them. I will not return

I'm British but have lived in Prague for 17 years and have never experienced any of these scams. I've been approached by beggars but not much else. Each place has its aspects I suppose; whilst visiting Tucson Arizona I learnt to my horror whilst on a pedestrian crossing that traffic in the US can go through a red light. Nothing can convince me that this is not totally INSANE.

I'm Irish and have been to Prague 5 times and going again in November. A lot of things Naz and Teresa are saying could apply to any city in the world I find Prague one of the best cities for not actually ripping you off. Just have to use common sense.

thank you also for watching. the scammers are friendly encouraging you to take pictures. After they demand large amounts of money , at least 20 Euro and their friends start gathering around you threatening you to pay. It is a horrible experience to be in the middle of such a scenario

I am going to be studying abroad there in spring. Charles University. Not too much of a big deal but I was hoping to get away from the tipping economy because in america it is sooooo bad.

I have been reading / following about that and it can be shocking sometimes. When we go in small Czech villages / towns, they prefer to be tipped in cash than card. If you do not have any cash it is surprising how they do not mind sometimes , but it makes me so guilty.

And please, less selfie portraits and more city views.
