Weber 26” Kettle

  • If you have a ton of people to grill for or want to smoke a big brisket, then the 26” Weber kettle might be the grill you are looking for. Years ago, I started grilling on a 14” Smokey Joe, which was fine for a steak or a couple of burgers. I then moved up a bunch of 22” kettles, and now I have the 26” kettle in Smoke Grey. I haven’t cooked on it yet, but I’m guessing I could fit 70 wings or 40 burgers in the 508 sq inches of cooking space.
    You don’t really need to burn-in or season a new Weber kettle, but I’m always looking for an excuse to use my torch. I’m not sure exactly how hot it gets, but it’s something like 700+ degrees, so I just did a quick pass over all the parts to get rid of any residue or debris.
    It’s a master-touch model, which means it comes with the ash catcher bowl, standard wheels, a nicer vent handle, a standard thermometer and a tuck-away lid holder.
    The included grate is called the Weber crafted system, which is a gourmet grate with the 12” inch center circle grate, but also includes a 16” square cut out that allows you to drop in accessories, like this sear grate, and a grilling basket. They also have a griddle, pizza stone and a wok. The charcoal grate alone is 22”.
    My first cook on this thing is going to be a 17lb Creekstone brisket from Crowd Cow using the snake method, so stay tuned for that.

    She’s a beaut Clark. Seriously tho, I have this same grill and it’s simply all I need. 5 years with it and we have made everything from wings to brisket. Sometimes simple is better. Enjoy dude!

    I've done 14lb brisket on a 22" kettle with the snake, and it came out fantastic!

      What crafted insert would you go with? I like the sear grate will probably get the wok too.

    • @backyahdbbq
      @backyahdbbq  2 месяца назад

      I have both. Depends on how important charcoal wood is to you and how much time to you have to babysit cooks. Ask any questions…

    • @osvaldorodriguez8733

      ok let me give some context. for me I do like 70/30 grilling/smoking. It’s mainly carne asada so lots of high heat grilling. Maybe 3 times a year I’ll smoke a brisket/pork butt so my heart says go with the kettle since it should be a lot better for grilling.
      I’ve never had anything besides charcoal but the idea of being able to just set it and forget it sounds awesome to me with a pellet grill.
      The more I type the more I’m realizing I should probably go with the kettle since I’m sure I’ll miss the charcoal flavor lol
      I do have a question for the kettle. How much do you have to babysit it when smoking? I’ve used a WSM and once I got it dialed in I can go to bed (set a temp probe with alarm if it goes below 225 or above 275, rarely woke me up)

    • @backyahdbbq
      @backyahdbbq  2 месяца назад

      I’d go Kettle and a 22” WSM. Yes you “can” smoke on a Kettle but I would never choose to if I have a WSM. You can WSMs cheap on OfferUp etc. The pellet is convenient for sure, but I’ve only used pellet a handful of times. I did like just setting temp. Good for busy days. The trick I’m finding is starting really low temp on a pellet makes a huge difference in flavor. It will never be wood/charcoal but it’s also not trying to be.

    • @backyahdbbq
      @backyahdbbq  2 месяца назад

      As far as babysitting kettle goes. You have to monitor temps throughout. The weather where I am is very unpredictable so yours might be different. If you setup the snake right it can go for hours at a consistent temp.

      @@backyahdbbq thank you will do! And since the 26 is a lot cheaper I’ll also be able to buy some of the Weber crafted items like the searing grate. I already have a Wsm 22. Was hoping to consolidate into 1 unit only but I might just keep it tucked away at the side of the house while not in use so my wife doesn’t get annoyed since we have a small back patio 😂
