I always love walnut. Great job. Love that you just used your bare hands to apply the walnut oil. I do the same. Nothing in there to harm you, so why not. Lovely bowl.
New to turning. Have not turned wet wood . Looks like it could capture ones imagination 😊. I would like to know about your dept finding tool ? Is it homemade?
@@nelsonpalmer4831 thank you for finding my video. Yes. Turning wet wood can be a great creative outlet. And yes the bottom thickness gage is home made. Very simple. The small piece of ply wood touches the headstock for a stop and ends at the nose of the jaws and the larger piece has a raised dowel that ends at the edge of the ply wood. There are also strips on the bottom to loosely hold them in the bed slot. When the dowel touches the bottom of the bowl the distance between the two pieces of plywood is the thickness of the bottom. 😊
Nice bowl! Love turning walnut! I always 2nd turn bowls to let them dry to prevent them from warping. Do you have any problems with the bowls with warping? Sure would save a lot of time with one turn! Thanks
@@garygilbert3894 thank you. Twice turning is probably the best way to do it. I do not mind the warping and I usually do not have any problems with cracking. At least with this walnut, but it is very forgiving and easy to work with. Thanks for asking. 😊😊
O.K. - dept gage. very clear - I will give it a try. Thank you for the many great videos of your practical turning skills. Your examples of wood craft art is a give me.somuch to learn and challenging ideas. Thank you
@@yvesladouceur9203 hello. Thank u to our for asking. This will definitely warp, but I do not expect any cracking. I have had good luck with walnut. I just make sure that there are no cracks to start. And if it does crack, oh well. I’m had a blast making it. 😊😊
Looks a lot like the Walnut I have laying around here. Mine needs to be placed under a cover urgently or it will be just firewood. How long has yours been outside?
@@emgiwoodworks hi Leo. Thanks for stopping by. It’s been down about a year. Cut into barely liftable (2people) logs and thrown behind the shed a few months ago. It is not the ideal way to store and save but all I have time for now.
You can't go wrong with Walnut and you didn't! Nicely turned and finished. Beautiful bowl, Rob! 😀

What size drill bit do you use to predrill for your worm screw?
