I’m glad Elf never got a sequel. It works perfectly as a standalone film
Disagree! The sequel would’ve been very interesting!!!!!
@@SuperMoviemaster21Not everything needs a sequel.
I’m mixed but I can agree with Ferrel’s idea that the sequel would have never lived up to the first, but on the other hand I think the seaquel’s script sounds intresting.
@@jnnx but it doesn’t mean that you knock it
@@jnnxNor a reboot or new adaptation...
The instant expression of fear and "Please don't do that" from that interviewer made me laugh out loud. Props to that dude for keeping it real where I feel like most interviewers on a press tour would be too concerned with kissing celebrity butt.
The irony of that is that will ferrell is doing press for zoolander 2
😂😂😂
Surreal that Will thought it could ruin his career since Buddy is definitely one of his most iconic roles.
I almost want to tell 2003 Will “don’t listen to your gut feeling, this is going to be so iconic you have no idea how big this is” haha
20 years after this movie was released it’s still a classic
Isn’t it only a classic NOW, being that “classic” means “standing the test of time”?
Yeah, literally how classic works. Good job 😂
What also might've caused tension between Farrell and Favreau was that Farrell wanted to keep more of the adult and cynical aspects of the earlier drafts (and you can see this tone in the deleted scenes on the home media releases) and Favreau wanting to keep the movie more family-friendly so it could become a Christmas classic.
Good point!
I also think Ferrell really worried if the material was funny
My headcanon is that Will Farrell’s character from the Lego Movies, & even Barbie too, is a domesticated version of Buddy the Elf
Makes sense. They play practically the same character in Lego and Barbie.
That script for a sequel, especially with the likelihood of it getting changed before it comes out, actually doesn't sound too bad of a movie but it definitely isn't focusing on what made the first one great, and I absolutely would hate a sequel made without Favreau
I’m glad they never made a sequel, but I think the Counsel of Santas is a brilliant idea that honestly deserves to be part of Christmas canon.
that was my first thought too, the plot of the sequel could probably be a decent christmas movie on its own
I’ve watched Elf since I was a kid back when I saw it in class during 5th grade, and I still watch it today. Elf is one of my all-time favorite Christmas movies
While I like Jim Carrey, I think Will Ferrell was the better choice for Buddy.
Oh man but to have an Elf 2 with Jim Carrey replacing Will Ferrell in the role be so awesome. This would probably be the one and only time in my life that I would have any interest in seeing a sequel that doesn't have the original actor starring in the role. I pay to see it for sure.
@@bryanrizzo9377 That’d be a good idea for an SNL skit.
You know it's hard to say no with Jim Carrey as Buddy, he would've been perfect and just as good in the mid-90s, hot off of his massive success from Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb & Dumber, and especially Batman Forever.
The original "edgier" version feels so wrong since the final product is more innocent and charming. It reminds me of when Jeffrey Katzenburg wanted Toy Story to be edgier to the point where everyone was unlikable and had cussing.
I actually read the script for the unmade 2005 sequel, I actually really enjoyed it. I liked the idea of Buddy having a daughter since the first film was about a father/son dynamic, now we have Buddy being a dad himself and the child stuck between the real world and magical Christmas life. Also the stop motion Coal Kringle would've been awesome. But I totally respect them not making a sequel because let's face it, not everything needs a sequel.
Agreed on every point. Well said!
@@BulletsandblockbustersAt some point in the future, you should consider tackling Zack Snyder’s original plans for the DCEU and Justice League.
I'm going to!
First off, I randomly discovered your channel maybe a month ago and I don't regret it. This is some great stuff and I hope you keep it up forever!
Secondly, it's insane to think that this movie had to have all of those moving parts just right to happen the way it did because to me it feels like one of the most perfect Christmas movies of the last 30 years.
Thank you and welcome aboard! And sometimes the best movies turn out like that!
I saw Elf when it originally came out, thinking it was just another holiday movie, so it’s been crazy to see it become a holiday classic in real time lol
Home Alone 2 didn't tarnish Home Alone. Elf 2 could have worked. It was a risk for sure. But making movies is always risky.
Sequel sounds way too complicated.
Accepting your father after he saves the day feels a bit contrived. The stories don't seem to mix well.
RIP William Clay.
Crazy to think that Will Ferrell wouldn't do Elf 2 for a crazy amount of money, a movie that didn't sound bad from what was described here. Yet he was more than happy to come back for the embarassingly god awful Zoolander No. 2.
Agreed. Well, his star has faded considerably as of late. His last leading role in a major film was in "Holmes & Watson" back in 2018 and it tanked. That was 5 years ago: a lifetime in the movie industry! Perhaps, he may reconsider doing "Elf 2" now?
Whole different kettle of fish. He isn't the star of Zoolander and doesn't have to carry the film. He isn't synonymous with Zoolander. All of that is on Ben Stiller. Elf would be a little more on him.
@@CptCrash21 You're right. Still bizarre to me. He turned down likely the biggest paycheck of his career almost entirely because he didn't like Favreau and found the costume embarrassing to wear... But considering the roles he picked before giving up being the lead, I really don't see how a second Elf could've been any more excruciating.
I never got into Zoolander. I like most Ben Stiller movies but that one was just alittle to goofey and I didn't find it funny. As far as Will Ferrell doing sequels I'm glad he atleast did Anchorman 2 and Daddys Home 2.
Another great video! Would love to see you talk about the cancelled Tetris trilogy, that would've been a Sci-Fi Action series with people fighting aliens.
Thanks! I'll look into it
Crazy it's been 20 years since Elf been released.
Time flies
I have never seen elf
Elf is one of those movies that is one of a kind and unique that works perfectly as a standalone movie that doesn't really need a sequel
Merry Christmas, all. Thanks B & B for the awesome gift of this fun video. Looking forward to next year’s offerings.
Thanks for the amazing video ❤
Glad you liked it!
I never got around to seeing this movie. I bought the DVD of "Elf" about a decade ago but have yet to watch it. Maybe I'll finally take the cellophane off it and knock the dust off my Blue Ray player in the next few days, now that I know Favreau directed it.
I've never seen it, either. I never decided NOT to see it or anything, just haven't ever gotten around to it.
I have question.
Sorry if I seem a bit rude if I do it’s just I’ve been having this tired and annoyed attitude about Cinema really because all there is Superhero Movies, Legacy Sequels, and Remakes and not enough more of Originality and Variety in Cinema and Television in my opinion these days so would it be okay if u did a video on any cancelled movies that aren’t any sequels, prequels, or spin-offs and that isn’t a superhero movie please. If you want I can give you a list of some cancelled projects it’s just I want more originality and variety in Cinema and Television.
I would honestly love too see a part 2. I loved the ideas they had for part 2. My guess it will happen one day soon.
great video. Thanks!
Merry Christmas mate! Hope you have a great day!
Thanx for making so many excellent entertaining and informative videos! 🎄🎁🎄🎁
Thank you and same to you!
Great content!
Thnx!
Merry Christmas sir to you and your family 🎉❤
Same to you!
I can imagine Jim Carrey as Elf
santa claus exists and has a youtube channel named "bullets&blockbusters" 😂😊😊😊 thanks for a great year bro! You deserve all the success coming your way. Fingers crossed next year is our big year 😊
It’s been my absolute pleasure. Thanks so much for the kind words it truly means a lot!
@@Bulletsandblockbusters you gotta put the work in and you definitely have. I'm almost to 8k. Slowly but surely lol
💯
3:04 wtf?! That is insane!
Hard to do a follow up to a hit Christmas movie. Even The Santa Clause as good as it did at the box office sort of tarnished the magic of the first film by expanding on the story. And when you see a movie get to a must watch for a holiday...its best to just step back and let it just become its own thing. Elf was a hit because of the innocence of Buddy. That would have worn thin in another movie.
i was hoping you would be making a video on the elf sequel haha
The script idea didn't actually sound too bad for Elf 2
So, I'm ok with Elf 2 not being made...but that was a great script idea. I would have loved to see that.
Please do Black Panther 2, HP and the Goblet of Fire, or Tom Holland Spider-Man 3 (before the Sony/Disney conflict was resolved) [I didn’t really like the first Black Panther and I loved Wakanda Forever, I just wanna see what would have been)
Goblet of Fire had a original version?
@@arturocastroverde3349 Maybe you haven’t read the book, but sooo much was left out. And the director was actively trying to make it the best film backfiring. I don’t even know if there was an original version, just that the film messed up in so many ways
@@JustACactus616 tf? Goblet Of Fire is the best HP
Great video as always👍. Very interesting. I do think they ultimately made the right choice with Will though. James Gunn’s Scooby Doo next maybe😉?
Thanks! Back to the future is next
Definitely prefer what we got, and glad we got what we got. I'm also glad we didn't get a sequel either.
I’d be very interested to see this sequel Idea get made. It doesn’t have to be an Elf sequel but it’s own thing
Love to her channel can you do what could have been back to the future with Eric stolz
That’s actually next week’s video. Do you have a Time Machine or something where you can see the future?
Lol I do thanks
Im also doing BTTF2 the following week
That’s awesome
Elf 2 sounds like it would’ve been good.
Chris Farley as Buddy would have been awesome.
I didn’t think that Elf needed a sequel anyway as Steven Spielberg said about E.T so how about Marvin the Martian movie?
Also Edward Scissorhands and A Nightmare Before Christmas
I really love Elf, and is one of my favourite Christmas movie. I'm glad it never got a sequel, it works perfectly as a standalone movie like Free Guy
Wait, you mean Buddy could have ended up living IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER?!
Hahah
Nice work! Please do Godzilla 1996.
It’s on the to do list
Can you do the original plans for making the meg into A movie ?
hollywood today would make Buddy a widowing father who lost his xmas spirit and has to get it back via his daughter and her friends 💀
What Could Have Been: The Punisher (2004) and it’s sequel
Please do something on tenet idk how it's possible he's so secretive but I heard in a leaked script he originally wanted a nuke to go off in a major city as the characters fight against it backwards
There's an hour long documentary in the bluray
Not sure there’s enough info out to do a video on it yet
@@Bulletsandblockbusters figured :( syncopy is easily the most secretive production company since old JJ Abrams
I've seen Elf once or twice and liked it, it's nice to see a more recent film become a holiday classic, but I'm with the reviewer guy at the end when it comes to making a sequel: "don't do that".
They should've made that sequel...
All right, we all agree Elf should be left as it is. What I find most interesting from this piece is that Will Ferrell wanted to return? Would you say that he lied? In terms of not wanting to tarnish the film.
Aside from that damn, he wanted John Favreau removed from the Directors’ chair? Knowing any production there is bound to be some issues between actors and directors. But, I can’t help but see this as disrespectful. At the same time, Favreau wasn’t sure what to make of this film in terms of the genre?
As far as Jim Carrey and Chris Farley are concerned, believe it or not, I do see them as Buddy the elf. But it wouldn’t of been as successful, or as legendary as the way it was done with Will Ferrell.
I’m sure his opinion on an elf 2 evolved over time and these days he’s probably happy he turned down the sequel, tho according to Caan at the time he wanted to make it.
Wait they did 1 with sheldon guy playing buddy is that stop motion way what 10 years ago
I don’t understand how this became a classic. Lmao
I can't be the only one that's noticing how long Jim Carrey's neck would be if the picture in the thumbnail was real.
LMAO
Glad there was no sequel not all movies need sequels
A sequel made these days would be AWFUL. I truly don't think they could ever capture the magic of the first
I think a sequel would of been fine. Meanwhile Home Alone, Back To The Future, and The Santa Clause got multiple sequels that were completely pointless compared to the 1st films, yet all those are still considered classics.
Also, what are those extra Elf scenes? Elf has got to be my favorite movie of all time, I’ve never been tired of it and I always love it, I’ve seen it multiple times last year alone. I remember being a little child seeing it in the theaters. So a sequel would be so refreshing
Just deleted scenes
Jim Carrey definitely could’ve played this role well. Definitely an interesting what if. Like if Chris Farley hadn’t passed, he would’ve been Shrek and he probably would’ve been really good. I’m glad there was t a sequel cause it’s a near perfect Christmas movie and they probably won’t do it now that James Caan and Ed Asner are no longer with us, and Bob Newhart is in his mid 90s.
Will Ferrell is elf. Noone else
Not Christmas related but please do a video on if Kevin Spacey never got fired from House of Cards
I’ll add it to the to do list
I'll be honest. I'm surprised Elf was directed by Jon Favreau, the director of the 1st 2 Iron Man movies
This is the last place I thought I’d see a VladTV clip 😂
Can you do a video about the Aaliyah version of (Honey) 2003 or the Aaliyah version of Matrix
Not everything needs a sequel or a multiverse.
If Will Farrell didn't get the role, I think Steve Carrell would've been excellent as an alternative cast.
Omg thank fuck they did not do a sequel would of just ruined it unreal standalone Christmas 🎄 movie 🎥🍿
Can you cover more family friendly movies like back to the future? Home alone?
Yup! Back to the future is actually coming next week!
@@Bulletsandblockbusters nice can't wait 😊
Making a sequel doesn’t take away from the original. People should chill.
That movie was "lightning in a bottle", including for Will Ferrell and Jon Favreau. I agree that any attempt to follow it up would tarnish the original.
💯
I think I trust Favreau more than I trust Ferrel. I think it could have only worked if Jon did the sequel. I still think they could do a sequel, and focus on the Cookie Tree Elves.
Jim would of been so much better 😂😂
8:10 is my man color blind?
Haha
The sequel actually sounds pretty good
Favreau was so moneyyyy!
I love this movie and if a sequel happened that would ruin everything because it's perfect as a stand alone great job btw
The cadence in the way you speak makes it really hard to get through a video.
Honestly, as much as I love Carrey, I think Farrell was made for the role!
Wonder what Will thinks of Jon Favreau now he turned out to be Legendary
Let’s not forget it was Jim Carey who opened many doors for Will.
Well, B&B, I guess you could say that sequel…got left on the shelf.
(I deserve all the coal I get for that one. Maybe even a visit from der Krampus!)
Haha I love it
Day 31 of asking for the lost the revenge of the Incredible Hulk which is the 4 movie of the Incredible Hulk movies and the five season series
Bro, you can make your own videos.
Wow that original script sounds real bad. I am happy they changed it.
I still think Elf is a sequel to Misery
love Will, but Jim would have KILLED that shit 🤷🏽♂️
idk man i think the sequel vould have had a really interesting story
Lost me at Die Hard, even BW says it's not a Christmas movie.
The idea for the sequel is very good
I didn't even like the first one it was too cringy for me so I'm with Ferrell.
I read the script to “Elf 2” and it was AWFUL.
Finally an actor not willing to make a shitty cash grab sequel to a perfect movie.
that sequel sounds like a mess. sounds like they dodged a bullet.
Sure, but so do most scripts in their original incarnation.
Hell, so did the original.
No need to have a sequel to EVERYTHING that succeeds. The sequel didn’t even sound like as good of a story
Hats Off Entertainment discussed the never made sequel a week ago.
“Santa, how long will you have to deliver presents?”
“Carrey Elfwes, the sun sets all over the world, so I’ll be at it for 24 hours.”
“Well, all-nighty, then!”
I hate Will Farrell. I've never understood his appeal. The man has no range. But Jim Carrey does. And Carrey has far better comic timing.
I think the ending of Elf is beyond ridiculous. You can tell that James Caan doesnt want to be there. It feels like the script flies off the rails.
That sequel sounds likes pure ass
6:59 the moral is allow your parents to humiliate you beyond repair (I read the plot more)
Elf is genuinely one of the most "perfect" films ever made.
