- There are few cars more beautiful than the Ferrari Dino 246GT to look at and it turns out driving my Ferrari dream car was even more special ! In this episode of Hammer Time I drive two Ferrari icons back to back, first up in this video is the Dino 246GT.
Called a 'Dino' in memory of Enzo Ferraris son and because it 'only' had a V6 this stunning car had a 2.9L V6 with 195 horsepower. Today they are hugely valuable and it was a real privilege to be allowed to drive out on my own and share the experience with you.
This particular car even had a book written about it called 'Dino Days'...

It's an age thing. I am 58 and my childhood was filled with lust for the Dino 246 thanks to Tony Curtis, Roger Moore and The Persuaders. I, to this day, regard the Dino 246 as the most beautiful car ever designed by some distance. Far from perfect in technical terms, but just visually perfect from every angle and driving position. Some will argue that it's not a true Ferrari, but to me it is THE great Ferrari.
Well said!
Stunningly beautiful car. Lotus had the right idea copying it for the mark 1 Elise.
Yeah, it's the best looking car, ever...
The 246 has always been my dream car. The looks, the sound, damn near perfect ( for me ) On top of that, it's proper driving. No fancy electronic aids. Seat of the pants stuff. You're a lucky boy mate.
The best car ever made by humans
My favourite Ferrari, such a thing of beauty, inside and out. If I got to drive this I would be in tears. Thanks for sharing. Awesome video.
Glad you enjoyed it
The Dino has to be one of the best classic Ferrari ever, and sound amazing even now!!!
"When in the world did this ever happen to someone like you?"
When you worked so hard on those Car-vid daily videos, one every day for 3 months (?), giving thousands of people a bright spot in a difficult time. That, I reckon, was at the core of the success of your channel.
Nothing wrong with sharing an emotional moment Peter- I’d most certainly do the same. Great car and video, and I love seeing these wonderful cars being used as intended. Thank you for sharing 👍
You've taken the channel to a new level... Brilliant. I felt for you there Pedro.. You've earnt this fella, well done.
OMG. That Dino. Sounds incredible. Looks so dainty but absolutely stunning on those 'head on' approach shots. Emotional stuff. No wonder Ped was nearly moved to tears. I am, and I'm only viewing. E.P.I.C. 😍
The 246 one of my favourites beautiful car and wonderful video many thanks! I sat in a Dino once and thought if I won the pools I could have one!
My childhood dream car and it still looks gorgeous. Once again thank you for letting me live the dream!
I have loved the 246 Dino since I was in primary school and always will. Never got to drive one but did get to sit in one once and that in itself was a dream come true. Have been collecting models etc of the car ever since but maybe one day. Nearly bought a 328 gtb once when they were in the high 20k's but now they are all a bit out of reach, This one as you say looks and SOUNDS a real beauty. Enjoy my friend, enjoy.
Perfect review 👌
I've been lucky enough to get to drive a 246GTS for the last 10 years and the wonderment & glee never fades.
Too good to be driven yet has to be driven with delightful respect not to mention a smug smile of adrenaline.
Keep up the good work.....'it's a horrible job but someone has to do it'.⛽
Dino Deb
RESPECT! 🤘
Fantastic video Peter. What an absolutely stunning car and one I’ve always loved. I’m really chuffed for you that your getting to drive such amazing iconic classics and share them with us. I had a wee moment myself watching this as I can imagine how special it is. Thanks as always for sharing these experiences, can’t wait for part two 😉👌🏻👍🏻
Oh my days! Goosebumps watching this video. The Dino and Lancia Stratos are probably my 2 most desirable cars, sadly my income does not quite stretch to either so massive thanks for sharing Ped, stunning.
Sir Pete I was smiling the whole video! So happy for you. Yet again this video just tells how genuine you are and I value that a lot in your videos. What a car! What a video and what a memorable day for you! Best part of the video was the comments about your brothers lol. Can’t wait for the 308 video. My dream Ferrari is a 288 gto
Having seen your reaction to this ultra pretty little car - I don’t think you will forget it. I was given a brief drive in a GTS version nearly 50 years ago and I still remember it fondly! Thanks for the ride today.
Lucky guy Peter, my all time favourite car, hope you enjoyed every second of it. Growing up in the 70s in a little village in Northamptonshire my friends dad had a Dino. Hours were spent just staring at it
Wow,absolutely fantastic car and review. The view out over the bonnet is outstanding.I bet you will have a grin on your face for weeks after this one. What a great way to start your new hammertine feature.Best car yet.More please.
" oh,what a lucky man he was"- see if you can guess the musical reference. A lucky man indeed. Such a sweet sounding Dino, glad your boyhood hero turned out to be as good as you imagined. I saw and heard a red Dino 30 years ago at Continental Car Services in Wellington,N.Z. In for a service,$20.000 thankyou, that was a lot back then. The Dino engine was also the donor for the Lancia Stratos, another Icon.
Peter…a true story. In late 1974 during the big petrol crisis when big engined cars were impossible to sell and Jaguar were struggling to get rid of the last 50 E-Type V12’s , I encountered a Dino 246 GT stopped in an awkward position on the entrance to a junction beneath the M32. It was teatime and raining. I stopped to help and asked what was wrong. “The clutch has gone again!…I’m fed up with it!” It was a 1971 car in silver and I said I thought it looked wonderful. He then told me that I could have it for £1000…yes..£1000!!! However, I had my new Ford Capri and didn’t want a bag of trouble like that so I escaped being landed with the thing!! Hmmmm…not the best move I ever made!! I’m glad you have started your new venture….there is so much to come..well done! Richard🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
What a sound. It was great to see the genuine thrill on your face driving it!
Well done PP on the new gig.
👏
That noise of that v6 will never get old
You looked well chuffed mate 🤤
The Dino is very special & to me, the pick of the crop.
Smaller, lighter & cheaper while still remaining nimble, plenty powerful & so musical.
So happy for yah mate. 👍🇦🇺
Ped, loved the video. I can feel your emotion. Good job!
Dino 246GT was the poster on my bedroom wall as a teenager, so thank you for this - the candour of your emotional response to this car certainly resonates with me.
Loved the review.you lived out one of my dreams.the dino 246gt has to be one if the best cars ever made.i am very jealous. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Enthusiasm, awe & amazement you capture it all, Bravo Pedro ciao
Have your moment mate! So great to see the sheer delight on your face driving that gorgeous Dino. You have to put on a flowery shirt and put on a tash in Episode 2! Looking forward to that one already!
Pete, you are very lucky to be entrusted with such a beauty. Being of a similar age these were my dream car too.
Nothing wrong with sharing your emotions. Thanks for the vid 👍
This was my dream car as a child too.
My dad took me to the motor show for the very first time when i was 12 years old in 1970, it was at earls court.
I saw this in the metal for the first time and was in awe of the design. I've not seen another one in the metal since then.
Your video brought back my childhood memory, I shared the emotional moment of your drive, the thrill & excitement on your beaming face duplicates my feelings about this iconic masterpiece.
Just to sit in one would be special for me, let alone actually drive one. You are very priviliged to have had such an opportunity to be able to share your experience.
This has been truly the most enjoyable of your videos for me.
Fantastic!
A great quality video Pete. You lucky boy. Keep up the good work. 👍
11:48, total respect, crisp clean and heartfelt all the way. 🤜🤛🙏👍
Ooh, my favourite little Ferrari, swoopy lines, the interior and that engine sound!!! 🤤🤤. Oh and one thing, don't close the door by pulling on the door pocket, it will break in time to come, the door handle is located below the quarter window, you slot your two fingers inside it and pull the door close😁😁
Good stuff. Love it watching car lovers meet their life long idols. We're all feeling it.
My dream car ! Most beautiful car ever, a work of art. I drove one some years ago, modern supercars are so much faster, but if given the choice, i'd pick the Dino every time. Great video, thanks !
Great video again. You are such a passionate guy and it’s infectious. It’s ok to have a moment and understandable.
My cousin was a consultant at the Royal Marsden in the early days of bone marrow transplants. He had a silver 246GT and I remember him doing 110mph towards Tonbridge when I spotted a motorcycle cop on a bridge overlooking the road and we slowed down. Cousin then went into the private sector abroad. The 246 was left stored in Blighty and some lucky git got to take it out every so often for a drive. He eventually sold it and had various other exotica like a Countach etc after that down under.
This and the DBS IIRC were the stars of the Persuaders TV show and I was always torn between Tony Curtis and the Dino and Roger Moore with the Aston. Glad you enjoyed your drive Mr Ped!
My favourite Ferrari are 246 GT and 330 P4, I saw that you like them too, you're great. Greeting from Italy👋💞
Glad you like them!
Hey Ped well this is exactly why should ignore the haters out there. It shines through how much you love cars and I can see why with this beauty. Keep up the good work 😃 So looking forward to part 2!
Great content as always mate! Two gorgeous machines!
What a magnificent machine!! Great to see it being driven and your reaction 😀
This would be a great video to use as a drinking game ... take a shot whenever Ped says "Ferrari Dino" LOL ... love it mate you really captured the experience and the sound and vid edit was excellent. Thank you!!
I'm jealous, Always loved the Dino. Congrats on your success . Great vids thanks mate.
What a stunning car 🤩 great work. It’s amazing to have seen your channel grow and grow congratulations
What a great looking car! My favorite part is the sound 😍
Hoohoo! Pretty much the best thing since sliced bread mate!! A real schoolboy moment, happening when you're an adult, is definitely a special thing.
And, dang it, my V6 Cavalier never sounded that good!
The Dino is such a beautiful car. What a lucky chap to get to drive one 👍😎 The sound from the exhaust is just perfection
Totally get the emotion. Beautiful video!
An old friend, Marshall Mathew’s, was president of the Bay Area Ferrari Club in the 80’s. Let me drive his Lusso up a windy road to his house. I was 23 and will NEVER forget the feeling.
Kudos to you!
Wow 👌
Great video and great sound of the Dino it was very emotional.
Great video and you have given me a special insight into my childhood dream car the 308.
Thanks for sharing the privilege with us.
fantastic video, the Dino was my absolute dream car, thanks for sharing...this is tremendous
Beautiful. While I was living in England many years ago I visited one of my favorite racing garages and out back was a completely burned out Dino. It was so so sad. Looks like this one isn't burnt out at all. And beautiful as well. Nice piece.
I guess our host/driver was rather overwhelmed driving such an incredible automobile. He surely isn’t always at such a loss for words. Hopefully as he drives more iconic cars he’ll not be so flustered that he can’t think of anything to say other than “I can’t believe I’m driving a Ferrari Dino”. That being said it is an absolutely gorgeous car. I had the pleasure of doing a service on a 248 GT about five years ago. The owner has had it 25 years and bought it for $50,000. It’s a $400,000 example now. Under 40,000 miles and all original interior, paint and one engine overhaul to upgrade the valve seats and such for unleaded fuel. Always one of my favorites.
Love the emotion that a car can bring, looks, feel, smell and not forgetting sound…I’m sad that EV drivers are going to miss out on that critical connection.
The most beautiful Ferrari ever - neven without the badge! Thanks, Ped :)
Great vid by a fab “point man” - my eyesight stops me driving but I have a good mate who owns some tasty cars and your channel now too so get to live the dream!
How did I only come across this video now! I smiled all the way through with you on this one. I went to university in Loughborough in ‘86 and there was a Graypaul Ferrari showroom and service centre there. The Dino 246GTS was one of the first Ferrari’s I saw close up. One day walked passed and an F40 was there. Couldn’t believe it.
Will never afford one, but the 246 will always be my favourite.
👍
What a fantastic car Pete I remember it well when I was in my teens the Dino is something really special must admit wish I was you all the best mate.
Stunning looking car driving through chipping Norton just down the road from me. Sounds lovely to
Love looking back on these old video's that I somehow missed. What a car and what a sound!
It sure is!
Beautiful car. If the cost worries you just remember it is without a doubt insured. That car was made to be driven not just looked at. Truly enjoyed the video and can't wait to see the Magnum version, although this car has it beat in looks.
The sound is wonderful.
Looking awesome pete inthe Dino, hey drive safe, stay safe, have a great weekend,
Great report. I look forward to the 308 next week. Like you, I would be getting on like a giddy schoolboy.
What a car can’t wait for part 2 🚗👍
That was the least and most informative video you've ever posted. The entire thing was the childlike excitement of driving a lifelong dream car. And..... that was perfect, because I was right there with you. Truly! Thank you for taking us on the ride. I'm a good 10 years older than you and this was my first dream car. My dad was partial to the Daytona, but my brother and I loved the Dino. I have a 1962 Corvette that I adore, but it just isn't a Dino. What I wouldn't give to just have an hour behind the wheel of a Dino. Well done!!
Most beautiful car ever made love the video
Pete you should practice closing the Dino door from the inside. Right below the vent window is a small finger hole in the door panel. The door is so lite it only takes one finger. Saves the door pouch for gloves and glasses.
Loved both of these cars as a kid, love them both now but it’s always been the Dino for me ❤
Wonderful says it all Peter
I have to agree a beautiful piece of design! Proves that sometimes less is more!
Awesome! I always loved Persuaders and could never decide who had the best car! Moore with Aston Martin DBS or Curtis with the Ferrari Dino! Thanks for sharing👍

Thanks 👍
A Ferrari Dino FFS ! Wow
Well Done Squire 6 years and getting better all the time! the Bonhams connection sounds cool! interesting too!
Pat yourself on the back you did it- ALL of it !
I think that's Cirencester. The roads around there would be perfect for the Dino. Great video, thanks.
That 2 5 V6 Dino sounds just beautiful mate 😍👌😎
Yep 👍
You had a moment like I did!Driving something from Maranello! Thank You for sharing!
Hello 'Mr Petrol Ped', lovely to see the 'Dino'. Back in the very late '60s Ferrari were experiencing problems with damage to cars on road transporters during the trip from Italy to the UK, so a number of cars were 'driven' overland. One night I arrived home at 11-30 pm having caught the last bus to find a 'light blue Ferrari Dino' parked outside my parents semi just north of Birmingham. An older friend of mine in his twenties was inside the house drinking tea and talking to my Dad, he had just taken three days to drive the Dino from Italy to the UK, it was great to be driven in a Dino back then. He had the job for 9 months driving several Ferrari's cars between Italy and England. Regards, RichardA.
Awesome video as always
Great stuff. I've always liked the Dino, indeed it has a place in my Fantasy Garage, as does the Magnum 308. You're going to have to rename this playlist to Sometimes Life's So Damned Hard.
😎
I agree Pete, a beautiful car, timeless design.
Excellent and good to meet your hero and its as good as you thought. It is one the most beautiful cars ever made and still good value if you can afford one.
Thank you very much!
my dream car back in the day, thanks for sharing this PG
Mate, the cars I really love the most are British n Italian (with the exception of the 205 golf MKI n of course the Shelby Cobra) My ALL time favourite is the Elan over n above ANY super hypercar on earth, with the real enthusiasm n unbias honesty you have I love to see you If you ever have the opportunity, comparing them but most of all driving an Elan on country twisting lanes, on a sunny Sunday morning for me that Is the magic of driving many thanks for your videos mate
Andrew isn't a garage queen. He loves his cars and ain't afraid to drive them.
Oh yes 🙌
Wow Pete, so jealous - you're driving my favorite Ferrari. Brings back memories of Danny Wilde in 'The Persuaders' :)
Looks like the strangest driving position I have ever seen but it could be my imagination. Love those cars though. Old school beauty.
The Dino 246 GT is my favourite car, let alone Ferrari of all time. As you say, stunning from every angle.
Hey buddy, well days like this, ya just gotta smile, very very wide. Stunning brace.
Oh yes 🙌
Incredibly special, you’ve made it mate. Magnum PI music a must for the 308 GTS video. I expect the obligatory moustache to feature too. 😁
😂😂😂
Lovely car Pete. David Lee, Ferrari Collector, has started building Dino's with V8's!! Epic!!
Great video stunning car
In the early seventies there was a guy that lived near us, he was a car lover and a keen golfer. His registration plates were all PAR. I remember his red Dino was PAR 3, how cool was that.
Come a long way dude 😀👍👍👍👍
Sounds gorgeous. And having a moment driving a special car is what it’s all about.
One point. Engine shots, especially something so precious like this (if the owner is happy) would be good. Cheers. Camera mounted on the passenger side window to show your driving environment would also be appreciated.
I know…totally forgot 😢
I fell in love with the Dino when I was a teenager in the 70's watching Tony Curtis driving his Red Dino in the TV show the Persuaders, and still love it today. I wonder where that Dino is today, and who is the lucky owner.
PP I've watched you smile from ear to ear and grin like a Cheshire cat on many of your excellent videos, but it was so very obvious this was a very special car for you, it very nearly brought you to tears, or maybe it did off Camera, you know what PP, I totally understand your emotional reaction to driving this Dino, I would have been the same. Meeting your Hero car and not being disappointed, you very lucky Man. I think you have ticked off one of life's boxes of things to do before, well you know what I mean. 👍
Sounds beautiful
Back in my on the spanners days a customer owned one. He used it to commute two miles to his office. Luckily this caused the plugs to fowl triggering a misfire. Cleaning the plugs only worked for a day or so. I became forced to take it for a forty miles round trip on rural A roads. I think it’s now safe to admit that I did stretch the speed limit little.
Glad u enjoyed the Dino :) - Bit of a contrast to my Dino drive! - I was cycling through town when I saw my friend's red Dino kerbside outside a corner shop, so stopped to say Hi - He smiled, threw some keys at me and said ' race you back to my place"!' - Yep, the keys had a ferrari fob....so I wasted no time in jumping into the Dino and driving off!
Not sure what bystanders must have thought.....turn up on a £20 pushbike and drive off in a Dino.. :)
The revcounter was always bouncy and on a later drive with him at the helm, he extended the revs...I was cringing and encouraging him to change.... eeeeeeeee....Bang!. clatter clatter, tap, tap..stop - Smoke pouring out inlet...not a good sign
To his credit, he did strip the heads down himself, with no experience - I still have one of the bent valves from the rebuild!
ps..I got to his place first :)
Hi Chris! :)
