- Kirstie Alley appeared on Match Game in 1979 before she became a big star.
How much money did she win? Find out!
Robert Pine, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Jamie Lee Curtis, Dick Martin, and Betty White - Развлечения
I swear, Kirstie has always had THE BEST hair.
She's also a Scientologist if you didn't know it already
When Saavik had her hair down in Star Trek II...hub-BA!
And it was still regulation.
She's absolutely gorgeous
Does Scientology have something to do with hair?
I met Kirstie in 1981, she was giving away some kittens and I was looking for a cat. I had never heard of her. I went to her apt in Van Nuys, CA, she had a couple roommates. She was not famous and I'm not sure she had done much acting at that point. She was definitely trying to make it in the business - but her first major role was Star Trek a year later in '82. She was very, very sweet and drop dead gorgeous. She wasn't heavy at all, in fact she was very thin. I didn't take a kitten because I was looking for a white one. That's my Kirstie Alley story.
David Evans no originally she was a comedian not an actor she did stand up in LA her first on screen performance was in 1995 in a cbs show called 50 years of women in comedy I believe and from there she went on to do more shows and her fame grew
@@martinthomas1293 WRONG. As David said, she played Saavik in Wrath of Kahn, which was 1982. 13 years before you say.
By 1995 she had already become a celebrity from being on cheers, did you maybe mean 1985
@@louisbologna4089 Star Trek II was 1982.
@@kellyq21 Lol not only was she in Star Trek, she was in North and South mini series circa 1985/1986 and then came on Cheers in 1987 when Shelly Long left. By 1989 she was doing movies. "Look Whose Talking."
I love how she just told Gene, “WRONG”.
The 70's ruled. If you were home sick from school, it was all game shows and reruns of 60's sitcoms like Bewitched, I Dream Of Jeannie, and Gilligan's Island. If you were really lucky, Batman would be on.
DanR67 You obviously grew up the same time I did!
But you forgot one show-THE MONKEES!!! It would have been awesome to have one of them on this show(Preferably Davy!)
Nancy O'Malley I was never a big Monkees fan, Nancy. I didn't really appreciate them until I got older.
Nancy O'Malley What? He forgot Adam-12 and EMERGENCY. : )
Ducksoup67 I will never forget Randy Mantooth!!
DanR67 You're so right, I'm so glad I was born in '65....I got to experience the end of the good old days...everything started to change about '81/82
i just love these old game shows, they're just fun
What a segment! A young Kirstie Alley, a young Jamie Lee Curtis, and an already old Betty White!
Old? Bite your tongue. I can't wait for you to reach that age.
Old? Seriously? You must be 12.
@@jotham777 to many people, 57 is old.
I should know, because I'm 60. And I get called old, by people who are in their 20s and 30s, all the time.
I have never seen Betty that young. I almost didn't recognize her.
@@willhorting5317
Please don’t tell me Betty is 57 in this video. That means I’m older than she is here.
Kirstie was/ is so beautiful. Her eyes. Geez her eyes. And, I will always love Gene. What a great entertainer. So natural. So perfect for this job.
+Dean Prescott Yes, her eyes. She also has a fantastic sense of humor.
Charles Nelson Reilly(R.I.P) always cracked me up on these shows
Kind of weird seeing a Match Game episode without Richard Dawson on the panel
no Dickie
@Russell Collier Yup,would have been great to have Dickie Dawson for at least a week,if he wasn't so busy with Family Feud daytime and nighttime.
@@georgemaster689 The Star Wheel was the biggest culpart.
He left Match Game in the end of 1978. This was 1979.
@@donmccullen1973 Well a lot of jealousy there. Fans made him the star of Match Game. I don't think Gene minded but the others on the panel did.
Robert Pine is the father of Chris Pine-The new James T Kirk!
And Kirstie became a Vulcan
And on a completely unrelated note, one of my daughter's closest friends is Chris Pine's niece. They were both in the theater program in high school. (My daughter went on to a theater scholarship from there.)
And Jamie Lee Curtis was chased by a man in a Captain Kirk mask
Robert had a guest starring role in an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise.
Lt. Saavik, the 1/2 Romulan, 1/2 Vulcan cadet taking the Kobayashi Maru test. Too bad she fell for that Scientology mess.
And, Robert Pine starred on C.H.I.P.s. So that makes Chris a C.H.I.P.s off the old block😄
If this was in 1979, that means Jamie Lee Curtis had already filmed Halloween 1978.
Tabie was ahead of her time. Sandwich in a vending machine. She showed them.
I going to go out on a limb and say that the woman was thinking of the days of the Automat cafeteria.
remember the "Horn & Hardart' ....my mother took me there years ago
Exactly what I was thinking
Thought the same thing!
Actually, sandwiches made their debut in vending machines much earlier. They were available in the 40's at the Automat in NYC, and they were experimented with then. Sorry, Tabbie was recalling experiences, not being ahead of her time. I do agree with Robert Pine, they looked gross...
met kirstie at riverside raceway in the early 80s...actually camped out right next to her and Parker Stevenson for 2 days. kirstie and Parker could not have been nicer.
Love these old shows
RIP, Kirstie Alley
Jamie Lee Curtis and Robert Pine are still with us. The rest, RIP.
Kirstie already had an agent at this time in her career. Her agent booked her on several game shows hoping to get her some acting roles.
she does seem to be going out of her way to be sexy...or dramatic...or somethin...
B Sheppard yeah, she is really hamming it up.
paul kersey This is true...but my God she's gorgeous!
B Sheppard I thought she looked bored. She was probably high.
okbye9 Yeah, it's cheesy but In the 70's and 80's that look was considered sexy.
Get a load of Kirstie's expression and body language when Gene calls her Kristie right before her first question. Like, "I've told you 12 times already, it's Kirstie...." she was a piece of work, even back then.
She comes off as a bitch.
I’m hearing “Kirstie.”
I also hear him pronounce it correctly: Kirstie.
Why are you starting drama where there isn't any? He is saying her name correctly.
R.I.P. Betty White. Thanks for the memories and laughs over our lifetime.
LOVE THIS GAME SHOW...WATCH RERUNS EVERYDAY....
Cam: What year was this video?
eddyvideostar This was early-mid 2003 I believe
eddyvideostar THESE WERE MOSTLY IN THE 70'S ...CHANNEL 364 IN KANKAKEE, IL.....65 MILES SOUTH OF CHICAGO....GUESS IT WOULD DEPEND ON WHERE YOU LIVE...AND I HAVE COMCAST...
HOPE THIS MIGHT HELP...
Michael Darling MOST ,IF NOT ALL , WAS IN THE 70'S...
I thought they were talking about the airing
When Gene said, "Slide the big one", I said "That's what Kirstie said at the Emmys"!
I was just watching this yesterday and today, and my eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw Kirstie on Match Game - before she became a celebrity!!!
Interesting that Dick Martin was one of the panelists here during Kirstie Alley's appearance.. she also appeared as a contestant on Password, where her partner was.. you guessed it.. Dick Martin!
Kirstie and Jamie Lee , YES!
I love this show, it's always freaking hilarious
3:04 That odd moment when you realize you can easily get a sandwich from a vending machine, but no longer a coffee.
And thankfully no cigarettes.
Why would you be thankful for not being able to procure a product of your choice for a know price at your discretion?
@@seinsmeld13 maybe in Vegas at the casinos
There are definitely still vending machines that you can buy coffee from. You just have to hunt them down. I have only ever seen cigarette vending machines in Spain, never in the USA
@@64imma Cigarette vending machines were in every Waffle House I ever went into as a child in the US in the late 70's - early 80's.
I didn't know that kirstie alley is from Wichita Kansas , that's where my sweet mom is from , I miss you mom , may you R.I.P ! 🌷🌸💐🌺🌹🕊😢🤧
70-80's it was very common for young inspiring actors/actress to be "booked" on game shows as contestants. I think Kirstie was in a few shows.
Kirstie Alley Connection #1: On the celebrity panel of this 1979 MG episode, is Dick Martin. Less than a year later, Kirstie was a contestant on "Password Plus." The celebrities on during her appearance, Lucille Ball and...Dick Martin! I wonder at that point if he remembered her from her appearance on MG.
Omg Jamie Lee Curtis!!!
I remember watching reruns of these in the early 2000's as a kid and thinking the show was so cool. Nowadays all I can think about is whether certain things would fly on TV nowadays and how the answers would be different now.
R. I. P. Kirstie
I wonder if Gene meant his little pun when he said "South paw, right off the bat."
“After Texas I love California!”. Wow this was an old episode.
Jamie Lee looks lovely. She has beautiful hair.
Wonderful celebrities! Thank you for sharing!
Even as an unknown Kirstie had an egotistical air about her.
It does seem so!
She did. I also heard she went on Game shows to pay for drugs. Her drug money. Well, it gave her exposure... thought she came across as not very nice. Maybe she was on something but she seems very nervy.
It was the cocaine
Why so jealous ?
@@patrickfallon1715
Of cocaine????
I was wondering if future stars were contestants on Match Game.
UHHH. EXCUUSE me!! When we came back after commercial, there were 2 new contestants ??? Whu happened to Kirstie Allie?
From interior design to Match Game to Cheers. Wow.
Kirstie Alley Connection #2: This is the "Star Trek" connection. Also on the panel for this MG episode was Robert Pine, Sgt. Gertraer front "CHiPs". Three years later, of course, Kirstie was Lt. Saavik in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan". William Shatner, of course, was Admiral James T. Kirk. Shatner was a sometime celebrity panelist during the golden years of MG. A year after this MG appearance, Robert Pine and his wife would become parents to Chris Pine, who now plays Captain James T. Kirk in the "Star Trek" reboots. Two of Robert's co-stars on "CHiPs", would have connections with "Star Trek". Lou Wagner (Harlen) would play one of the first Ferengis on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" which cstarted Michael Dorn (Of. Jeb Turner)as the Klingon security officer, Worf. Robert, himself, guest starred on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine".
Thanks for posting this! I've been wondering if any celebrities had been contestants.
Kind of a history in game shows of future stars as contestants who were looking for any kind of TV exposure or cash. O.J. Simpson was contestant on Hollywood Squares before he was famous (not as a square). The big show for this phenomenon was The Dating Game (Tom Selleck, Steve Martin, Paul Reubens (Pee Wee), Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Ritter, Sally Field, Suzanne Somers and on and on.
This is great stuff. Only on RUclips.
$6,000 to Kirstey in today's world is like $100. Just a drop in the bucket for her now.
Adjusting for inflation, $6000 in 1979 would be worth about $25,000 in 2023.
What a great show.
Damn I never knew Jamie Lee Curtis was on here.
Kirstie was also on Password as well. Guess she really wanted to b on tv. Same hair do too.
Aaaah the 1970’s, when game show contestants kissed and hugged the people on the show, good times! We sure have lost our humanity.
$5000 was worth about $18,000 in 1979. Nice chunck of change back then
Worked with her on a film called Madhouse. Good times!
I met her Saavik replacement, Robin Curtis.
I liked that movie! She was in it with John Larroquette from Night Court, who I liked! 😊
i saw the episode before never this one, but now betty and kirstie share a stage
And thus her career begins!
Brett: In the middle of the second answer. SANDWICH :) LOL!
"Kirstie Alley appeared on Match Game in 1979 before she became a big star. "
Yeah, well so did some of the panelists. I mean, who the heck is Brett Somers?
Nondescript She was a star although kind of retired to the game show circuit by then, and she was married to Jack Klugman.
okbye9. She also sang and did Broadway
The only thing I ever saw her in was the movie gypsy with Natalie Wood and Rosalind Russell and I thought her singing was terrible in her one short scene. But then I'm not really a fan of musicals
Vending machines do have sandwiches and more healthy choices nowadays. Besides the usual candy and soda, back then cigarettes were sold in vending consoles with "pull out" knobs.
ddivincenzo1 With contents that got stuck when operating the buttons/knobs, back then just like today's machines. Not much have changed over the years.
+ddivincenzo1 You can buy a sandwich out of a wall mounted vending machine in Amsterdam. A little food for thought.
they even had cofee / hot chocolate . of course there were times when coffee came out with no cup so it spilled over the floor unless you knew ahead of time and brought your own cup. or the cup came out without the coffee/chocolate
@@DoubleEdged7 Good times.
They still do coffee at rest stops
Just read the description. Loving these videos!
Someone to love.. can't miss
Only 2 years before she started filming Star Trek II : The Wrath Of Khan. Interesting.
RIP Kirstie Alley!
That's how Kirstie Alley became a celebrity.
She always had STAR quality !
Kirsty was also on 100,000 pyramid.
+David James And Password Plus.
Let me guess.. Dick Martin was on that day too! lol
Charles Nelson Reilly thought hard, with the Head-to-head Match.
Jamie Lee was so adorable lol 😍
She also appeared as a contestant on _Password Plus_.
Jamie Lee,HOW YA BE !!!!
Geez, how little Kirstie has changed over the years! But the real surprise was Jamie Lee Curtis--she was pretty good on this one.
I love the theme music!
Can't believe I'm the 1st to comment RIP to the beautiful Kirstie Alley. 1:24 Gene seemed flustered by Kirstie. Haha. She made him mess up the buttons. Jamie Lee Curtis (the only one still alive) looked AMAZING!
You can't definitely see Kirstie's star quality. Not the usual type of game show contestant.
Kristy was on super passwords too
Gene Rayburn was a master of his craft Richard and Gene played off each other Its hard to find Genes quality today Brett and Charles were fabulous The flow of the show………… so natural …………humour amazing …………This show is very hard to beat even by today’s standards I love it 🌺
Robert Pine was very handsome. I enjoyed him on CHIPS too.
California Highway Patrol. CHPS. 🙄
That mic always scared me
Back when Jamie Leigh Curtis was hot....
she allowed her hair to grow
She still looks hot, although I haven't cared for the lesbian haircut she's been sporting for years now.
she was super hot in Trading Places.. and so were her two friends
[... and so were her two friends]
I'm a big fan of Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy, too!
Jaime Lee Curtis, Kirsty Allie, who was on the show? Hmmm.
She looks kind of pissed. How cool though. You never know how life pans out.
A nasty biatch.
@ David Evans - and doon't forget she played Sam's boss on Cheers too!
I just tuned into this, however I had seen it before via this youtube channel. Today is 12/5/22 and she has died, sad. She had stunning eyes and LOVED her in Cheers.
i love brett
When I saw Kirstie I blanked my blank.
Why didn't Kirstie come back for the next game?
she is so beautiful.. (Kristie..)
has anyone noticed that the backdrop behind the actors looks remotely similar to the Confederate Flag with light bulbs
Yes
Oh don't say that please! Or else some snowflake will want the show removed from youtube.
And has anyone noticed you can make a Nazi swatstika out of the Hollywood Squares set...good grief - looking for racism everywhere where it absolutely does NOT exist.
No
Yes! I noticed that Flag in lights behind the celebrities along time ago and heard back then it was not by chance! Grew up watching this show in 70's and 80's and also noticed British looking flag design on the contents side at times.
6:50 "Someone to love...On top, slide the big one!"
Wow, Kirstie Alley as a contestant and Jamie Lee Curtis on the panel. Two of my all time crushes!
yeah, and the both look great. hey what did Brett Summers do.. any idea, anyone?
+Laura Kenney She was mainly known as Jack Klugman's wife.
+Tsuruta1 .. hey, thanks! I've wondered... ☺
Laura Kenney You're welcome, anytime. :)
+Tsuruta1 yeah . after divorcing Klugman she was a permanent on match game . notice how everyone else comes and goes except her . even Charles did kids TV shows ( lidsville uncle crocks rock ) Richard Dawson had his own game show
@6:49- Ha! "It looks like a good omen that someone to love is up there on top, slide the big one!"
Kristie also married Parker Stevenson. He was my favorite on the Hardy Boy's.
I'm gonna see if Jamie Lee Curtis and Kirstie Alley did a movie together.
Sizzling good show 👏 😅😅😊
Kirstie had that look about her even here that probably made a lot of people wonder why she didn't have a career in television. It's funny how things worked out.
+MatchGameProductions, What month and year began airing on GSN of Match Game Syndicated Episodes of 1979-1982?
Rest In Peace
"Cooking oil" 🍳 just what I was thinking 🤔 #Kirstie 👍😎
She was SUPER fine back then...Miss her !!!
When I was a kid, Gene Rayburn reminded me of Bugs Bunny.
You cwazy wabbit!
Holy cow I've never smoked ANYTHING that strong before, and I've smoked some seriously good stuff over the years
If Richard was still on the show at this point, he would have gone nuts over Kirstie. I forgot how attractive she was with such a sultry voice.
The funny thing is she's more confident than Gene is in this video.
if Kirstie had kissed Charles on the mouth, she just might have to fuck Betty after the show.
brainsareus yawn...
+DerAlmighty
Yeah I noticed that too. She has a tremendous amount of confidence you don't see in normal contestants.
Scott Allennim Or people in general.
She is high on cocaine. And, bored, and rude.
Wow, Jamie Lee Curtis when she still had hair.
Robert Pine, father of Chris Pine aka the new Capt. Kirk
Sgt. Getraer.
Where's Richard Dawson, and why did Kirstie not go to the next match 9:35?
