Love a good evil campaign
It definitely takes the right group to run an evil campaign. I had the fortune to run one where the players thought they were the good guys, but found out well into it they were not. That was fun.
Yeah, some people don't want to go down that path while others just take it too far.
Had evil groups ran as allies. Most LE to gain power. Also ran an evil group as a team gained power to be more evil. DM quit on us, said he couldn't sleep 😂.

Short. Focused. And without idle time. That's the only way I succeeded. Typically have a "one-shot" where the players do something the main campaign has to deal with.
Anything else is creates murder orgies and nothing gets accomplished.
