  • How do you decide which way to part shorter hair? We know that a part that follows the natural growth pattern is going to have a lot more control and will be easier for your guest to style at home. Whereas a part that goes against the grain will have more texture and movement.
David Boyd from the Sam Villa ArTeam demonstrates an awesome razor technique that adds movement and direction to shorter hairstyles that will allow the hair to flow better when styled along the natural growth pattern and to have perfect visual texture when styling in the opposite direction.

Sam Villa 9-Gap Razor Blade - Why this Blade?
    - The ‘U’ shaped grooves in-between the gaps hold the hair around them out of the way
    - Only a small amount of hair is removed with each sweep - You are in control of how much weight to remove
    - Great for pre-texturizing to remove weight
    Professional Long Cutting Comb

    Why this comb?
    - You want a comfortable length with narrow teeth at one end to smooth out your sections
    - Black comb for lighter hair/Ivory comb for darker hair - the contrast will enable you to stay on point and see what you are doing

also a question. to tie in the fringe a bit more smoothly, do thou think you could just bring back the fringe at say a 45 degree angle to the ear and do the same sculpting technique but like say on the whole fringe so as to create no disconnection whatsoever? also I'm wondering what kind of sculpt you could get if you did this technique with natural growth pattern too.

So many of these videos don't show the finished haircuts after using the techniques. Also, except for the braiding and updo videos, the techniques used are really common. Knowledge dressed up In fancy language. Very basic stuff so far, and pretty dated.
