- What would you do if you had one day with the 1600bhp Bugatti Chiron Super Sport? We picked one up from the factory in Molsheim, headed straight into Germany, blasted up the derestricted Autobahn at 211mph and then drove around the Nurburgring in extremely heavy rain... during a tourist session. Top Gear has done some stupid stuff in its time, but this might just take the biscuit.

Can you imagine how awesome it was for everyone else in the ring who saw this? Terrifying as well too, since no one wants to risk even coming close to crashing into this.

At least several people now can tell "I overtook a Bugatti on the Ring", because everyone who doesn't know the track is very slow there, especially in the rain.
Uh, if one hits you that's like winning the lottery. Better find the "best" doctor you can and brush up on your acting skills...
Not sure if many people know this but there's pretty much no insurance for driving on The Ring. There are some specialized companies, mostly german that will do it but it's not standard to be insured during a TF.
No touch screens, it gets my vote on that point alone.

Absolutely! I'd still have the old school toggle/knobs over touch screens any day! Look simple yet classy in their machined guise and u don't have to worry about failing to a large extent since their pure mechanical with no real fiddy electronic bits. But they do charge a shit ton if they do break off though. I remember hearing a Pagani owner being charged an eye watering $5000 for replacing *one* toggle switch in the Huayra!!
Bugatti wanted the car to look timeless. A screen would date it. However I think the screen in the huayra looks timeless.
Imagine driving a $3 million car and having to mount your cellphone on the dash for directions like a plebian in a 30 year old beater?

The last shot of the car traveling through the Ring in the mist was stunning. Great thinking to capture that mood.
I wish and want Top Gear to release the full B-roll footage they took for this very last scene amid those blackish woods in the dark and the wet with a dark Chiron. It was truly a special moment to see or footage I have never come across in how aesthetically pleasing and reminiscent of dreamy imaginations of the car it is... I HOPE TOP GEAR MAGAZINE SEES THIS COMMENT AND UPLOADS/PUBLISHES THAT VERY LAST SHOT WHERE THE CREDITS WERE SHOWN!
That was a proper pants-filling moment, well saved. Got to stay off the dry line in that weather, even with 150hp let alone 1500hp. I did a couple of laps in that moistness in my old E39 M5 and it was more than scary enough for me. Well done going out at all!

I highly doubt he had a choice in tyres. Not just because Bugatti probably didn't want him going to German Halfords and getting another set but because the number of compatible tyres is very limited

Imagine being Andy and trusting your life, job and a 3mill+ Bugatti in the hands of a novice driver with 1600bhp under his foot on a soaking wet Nurburgring. Balls of steel lol
Jack Rix is _not_ a novice driver. No motoring journalist with over a decade of experience is. Anyone who drives all kinds of different cars in all kinds of different conditions _for a living_ is, by definition, not a novice driver. If he was a shit driver, Bugatti never signs off on that run, even with Andy riding shotgun. Of course, I can come up with quite a few names who I think would have been _better_ choices (Harris, Bovingdon, Catchpole to name three obvious ones, and Ollie Marriage is also obviously more capable from the Top Gear stable) but Jack is plenty capable enough for this task. And it made for some pretty gripping footage 🙂
PS: To point out the absolutely obvious: a novice driver doesn't make that save 😉
@@alistairwillock7266 On Point there about Jack. In a split second I thought he would have lost it. He made the right correction plus I'm absolutely sure the car has one of the best stability control in the business that helped brake the right wheel to get it straight

I did 2 super slow laps in the rain and fog at the Ring in my 840hp GTR in 2018 on Michelin 4S tires and that was super sketchy! On my second lap I went by a Ferrari and a 911 both crashed. As I was crawling toward the end of my second lap, Robert Mitchell flew by me in his Schirmer BMW. Truly epic experience… Long live the Ring!
It must have been an unimaginable feeling to travel from France to the Nurburgring in a new great Bugatti and then go on the track with it and gassed on a rainy day. Great job 👏🏻🤌🏻

Tbh I never really liked the chap, always thougt he was bit boring. But seeing him drift a near as makes no difference 3 mil euro Bugatti and start laughing about it instead of having a stroke has swayed my opinion. Top presenter!

That Bugatti driving in the outro is by far the most calm state of the Bugatti which makes it so intimidatingly beautiful.

I haven't seen much of Top Gear since the departure of Clarkson et al. My compliments to the people at Top Gear. They've actually got presenters who know how to drive fast cars and can give intelligent commentary rather than just arsing around!!!
wtf 211mph in a chiron is not faster then what clarlson can do. clarkson hit 190mph on a limited runway in a 2006 ccx. ive also seen a porsche 918 trying to chase a koenigsegg agera r at over 360kph+ on the autobahn.

This was excellent as it shows just how useful all the hp is in the real world. Fun ≠ Hp, fun = connection with car and environment - best described by sensations of sound, acceleration, steering feel and the responsiveness to inputs. Love happens when your connection with car supercedes these tangible qualities and becomes irrational. For better or worse, this is often what happens when you drive an Alfa Romeo ;)
I admit that love is equally a known contagion for a number of other car models from other marks. It is also almost alway a lifelong disease in the case you build your own creation.
