- If you're going to test the fastest production car on Earth, it's probably best to get a Stig into the driver's seat. We sent the legendary Ben Collins to Molsheim to drive the Chiron Super Sport, Bugatti's 273mph-weapon.

Its not the Stig, but the Stig's talking cousin!
maybe it's joe 😳

"Some say he was once bitten by a king cobra, and after 6 days of agonizing pain, the cobra died"
Man I really laughed bro
I want to hear selfhelp audio
Didn't realise what a great presenter he is. Should do more of these.
I came to the comments to say this. An excellent presenter with lots of passion, sort of unexpected considering his silent role on topgear!
@@toxichazard5015 this happens when bbc makes programs. Give the presentators some freedom aswell
being around jeremy and the boys he learned alot
Yeah they should have friggin hired this guy when they bounced from TG
Hes boring
"The Ben Collins" is a BRILLIANT presenter... PLEASE keep him! In fact, more appearances on The Grand Tour would be amazing!!!
Agree 100%
He's been on GT?!
@@yeeN4W No
Gt is over sadly, only zimbabwe special is remaining if im not wrong
Ben presenting this makes you wonder what could have been with a fourth on the old Gear. We all know he's got the driving chops.
Also makes me wonder if they sent Mike on holiday to 'get him out of the way' so Ben could drive it because of his driving chops. Sorry Mike. ;-)
He was on here and there as a driver in some segments as himself, but it would have been really funny if he was a 4th presenter...and still the Stig for the power laps...and no one would dare say a word
I like it how it was
Trio talking and him driving
Check Ben's youtube channel. It's seriously underrated
@@Elwaves2925 mike is terrible sorry not sorry
Please make Ben Collins a permanent addition to the team at Drivetribe.. 110% presenter/host material.
and we need him on a track to, he's just to limited on a road
yeah he is amazing
I agree, for a guy that was a renowned mute, he's a great presenter.
He has charisma and race chops - we would watch when he didnt talk and now we listen because its profound.
Terrific presentation! The best I've seen in ages.
I love how Andy was holding on to his seatbelt at 08:47. 😂
I can’t believe I’m watching the Stig without his helmet
Has he converted to Judaism?
@@mikehipperson oh dear
Can’t believe he talks so much. Years of being pent up
nah, it's the Stig's talking cousin
@@James-May makes sense
Just to echo what others have said, more of this guy please. He’s terrific.
I always thought he wore a helmet as he couldn’t present, Top Gear missed out having him engage with the audience
Would love to see more reviews from Ben. Fantasticly worded and when he gives it the full beans you can tell by his face that its an amazing experience. With the knowledge that he has driven some of the best cars in the world to their limit, I don't know why he doesnt have his own show yet.
Thank you 👍 would love to do more - superb shooting by the camera team (1 man - called Tom - shot the whole lot! IN ONE MORNING) 👊
Seconded.
Definitely definitely definitely.
Yes, well done Ben!
@@BenCollinsDrives most respect to Tom
and Yourself, Sir.
this representation of what Bugatti has achieved tops all. thank you!
more please, Sir?
♥
Ben Collins is such a great presenter! He is needed in both Drivetribe and The Grand Tour!
Prefer the long tail look of this car to the standard Chiron. Looks super elegant and classy in black too.
I get a slight hint of the XJ220 rear with this SS model but the rear of the 220 is longer/more elongated but the 220 was designed that way from day one where this was modified on the original Chrion.
@@ArthurZakaryan23 you're absolutely right now that you said something I can't unsee it.
The SS doesn’t look elegant at all. The rear overhang is way too long, the front bumper has two huge gaping holes that makes it look aggressive. I feel like the Chiron was designed as an art sculpture and this just added bits to make it look aggressive. I’m not sure they actually needed to add those extra 25cm to the rear end and also create massive vents at the front at the same time. It doesn’t strike me as a slippery shape.
Yes something special. I agree.
I just think on the whole, this car looks better than the standard, and miles better than the veyron. The Veyron looked bulbous and swollen, like a super car that got stung by a bee. This car is still rounded and curved, but it's profile is so much better to look at, especially from the front. the way it looks lower and wider suits it so much more.
That Chiron is honored to be driven by this legend.
I wonder if Ben realizes he is a living legend of automotive history and culture. Without ever saying a word. Wowser.
Not really. He's the creation of top gear. The Stig is the creation of top gear
@@arnoldmbuthia2687 I bet you're fun at parties...
Yves Souffle we don’t care who created him. He’s an amazing driver.
He looked a lot better as the Stig?
He is like Charlie Chaplin. Without ever saying a word, they both amazed us.
Ben should have his own show. He has an unparalleled breadth of driving experience to speak from and is an effective presenter. Nobody else can describe driving quite like Ben. Thrilling stuff.
Imagine a new series on Drivetribe where Ben drives cars and talks about them
Yes please
And then Abbie Eaton shows up and they race
@@boatbikemike8571 oh that would be epic Ben in all white Abbie in her orange and blue race suit.
Want.
Sorry, but I still prefer Chris Harris
“Some say he never blinks, and that he roams around the woods at night foraging for wolves. All we know is he’s called the Stig.”
Some say he knows two facts about ducks, and both of them are wrong.
Some say he dreams in stereoscopic 3D of Bosch fuel injectors, and have had his bed sheets completely remade with carbon fiber...
How can you say that? You must be quackers !
Hahaha hahaha
all we know is, he’s not the stig, but he is the stig’s non-helmeted cousin
Wrong Stig
The moment he goes “full power… fkin ell” you feel everything.
He narrates quite well for someone who was known for being silent.
Remember that the reason he got sacked from TG was precisely talking too much... :D
He was in top gear as himself a few time when he was stig. Usually as a driver coach or the non tame racing drivers.
@@HotSkorpion BBC is too political to be publicly funded. This is just more proof
@@HotSkorpion he never got sacked. He quit and revealed his identity
The Ben Collins! It's not the Stig, Its the OG one!
Honestley tho he is a briliant presenter id love to see more series like this.
Great review! Ben's great! Natural behind the camera and you can feel the passion he has for everything automotive.
Hope to see more from him soon.
This would certainly raise a few eyebrows when parking up outside Lidl. Imagine the envy.
That G sensor is an accessory from Bugatti, $5,500 for the yellow plastic version. $9,500 if you want it red, and $70,000 if you want the carbon fiber variant.
And obviously there's no point in having the lesser versions lol
And the yearly service for the g meter is 35000 a year
If you can actually afford this car it probably doesn't matter 😆
Only a peasant would discuss the price of this indispensable accessory
What a deal. I'll take two
I'm not sure I will ever be able to process watching the Stig driving without his suit doing a piece to camera and being an overall totally normal bloke.
Yay, Stiggy's back! Ben will always be the true Stig to me. :)
You are rigth, I think that all the stigs are great, But Ben Collins will always have Something special :)
Ben's role in taking cars out for a test whilst being mute is only surpassed by his role in taking cars out whilst providing a running commentary.
As mentioned elsewhere. We need The Ben Collins on the next GT road trip. It's like he is the mate who never attended the parties.
-edit just go wine tasting round Italy and try some of the race tracks, may as well take Oz Clarke as well. 5 Guys and a Car!
I believe they tried to get Ben on the last GT special, but his schedule didn't allow for him to join them. I'd love to see him on the next one!
@@nelsonedwards6184 Seriously?!
I have high hopes he joins them next time!
8:32 that shot with the leaves hitting the front of the Chiron is just a beauty.......
Would rather watch this video of Ben driving than the entirety of the new Top Gear.
Some say the new Top Gear is not the actual Top Gear, and it feels like watching a youtuber unboxing his rgb socks.
Someone in television give Collins his own TV show, in a hurry. He’s a really compelling presenter and extremely well-informed.
Listening to Mr. Collins commentate on the car as he does makes me realize exactly why the old Top Gear crew deferred to him when writing about cars in the show. He's got a sense of wit, humor, experience, and a subtle but clear understanding of how the vehicle operates that he just kind of spontaneously says as he works the machine. He's definitely presenter material and was an invaluable contributor to what made the old show great. Even now as a solo act he's killing it.
His books fantastic, he was in the armed forces.
Him describing this car as “essentially an M3 on every wheel” really changes the perspective of this thing
Always nice to see the Stig return
He looks different though 🤪
Don't call him Ex Stig, call him Old Stig. Better for marketing and he is also hands down the best presenter i've seen on Drivetribe.
Make this a series!
That car sounds like a pack of mountain lions all running and snarling together.
How he's not done this during his Top Gear years is beyond me.
I am so pleased to see Ben again. What a wonderful video, and what a brilliant channel!
This guy is a natural presenter. I would love him to review a current F1 car.
Yes The Ben Collins is a great car journo! Get more of him
Some say he's so fast, he visited both the Eifeltower and Empire State Building within ten seconds.
Ben Collins is an excellent presenter. I hope to see more of Ben on DriveTribe and perhaps The Grand Tour...
I still can't believe this is the stig...so many legendary moments and talkless video of him....goat
Making the Bugatti test driver to grip the safety belt that his knuckles get white must've been a glorious experience.
Some say he’s the location for James May’s upcoming ‘Our Man in Ben Collins’, and that if you say his name three times, he’ll appear on DriveTribe. All we know is that he’s not the Stig…anymore.
Ben Collins and Chris Harris are probably one of the top best drivers you can ask to review in this generation..
I suspect that Chris Harris has driven far far more road cars than Ben has, Ben being a racing driver and I suggest Chris Harris is far more engaging as a presenter, so for me it’s a slamdunk in favour of Chris.
On of the best car reviews ive ever watched, go on lad
'Ex stig'
He'll always be The Stig !
Ben is fantastic on camera 👌
That was a lovely presentation. I'm keen on seeing more of that. Ben has become quite the presenter in his own right.
We want more Ben Collins Videos !!!!
Stig, I hope you re-release your Christmas range of fragrances, I've run out of the great smell of Wednesday :(
"Where shall we put the front number plate?"
"Oh, I don't know... stick it there, that'll do."
Ben Collins is a legend, this is presented so well by him. I would love to see more of him!
8:41 if you scare The Stig you know it's overwhelming
I was expecting to see it on an oval doing 273mph!
Advert in the middle of Launch Control.. real class!
Ex- Stig THE Ben Collins. Please get it right. ;-)
j/k
The name of this video should be called Lunatic terrifies old Man while driving fast.
Really enjoyed that. Never thought I'd see a production vehicle capable of over 300mph in my lifetime. I remember 250mph being an insane achievement. I always said I would ride at 200mph at least one time in my life but alas old age & sensibility caught up & stopped riding motorbikes long long ago before even buying a motorbike capable of it. Buying a car capable of that speed back then, or now, was a dream or totally unjustifiable. I resigned myself to saying 160mph was fast enough, nothing in todays landscape but pretty quick over 30 years ago on my piddling little 600.
Maybe, it's time for another "motorbike". I'm close to 60 and ride all mine on a regular basis.
Never too late to start living senselessly, old boy.
You can get laps at ciruits forvery little money, i am sure you could break 180 or 190 for less than 100 quid. . Not much gets you over 200 as a ride along and probably substantially more.. get a ride in a turbo s or something
Some say he’s the Stig… because he was, and in our hearts, he still is
We all know why Mike didn't drive this. Obviously, Ben Collins got that Buggati capable super premium insurance 😂
I'd like to see a collaboration between Ben Collins, Harry Metcalfe, Tiff Needell... would be fantastic
Ben is a brilliant presenter and knowing his credentials as a top driver makes it even better, hung on every word.
And that's him, officer. Quick, grab him before he wears *the helmet*
We need more Ben Collins! Epic driver, but he gives such an articulate account of the experience. Great work, Ben!
9:01 Andy Wallace is gripping his seat belt like his life depends upon it! And he doesn't look like he's having half the fun that Ben clearly is!
Couldn’t help but notice those white knuckles 😂
Even race car drivers hate being in the passenger seat
@@Eric-dr5bj even if you put the fastest driver on earth Andy Green who drive the supersonic car to over 1000 km/h he will still be terrified as a passenger because they are suffering without the control
Hehehehe. Yep, acing drivers loath being in the passenger seat!
I think he’s relaxed he’s just stopping the belt cutting into his ribs and guts under the hard braking and cornering
I love that Drivetribe is just old Top Gear blokes and Tiff Needell (and of course Mike and the awesome team)
I bet when accelerating as the stig back in the day, he must've really wanted to go "woohoo" but couldn't. He must have felt so much relief doing this :D
I was thinking the same
I'm sure he did that off screen
Am I drooling over a car I'll never be able to afford? Why yes. Yes, I am. That is the nature of the Car Disease.
I wish Clarkson, Hammond and May would occasionally cover unique cars like these. Don't get me wrong, Ben Collins is great but there's something about the way that the trio describes and presents cars that make me feel connected and emotional towards cars. There's that magic that only the trio can bring.
That’s experience too. The trio have done it for decades. Give Ben a chance.
Crazy how the Stig is so well-spoken, he's got it all!
Ben Collins - an absolute legend; who under the white helmet conquered wonders with his tamed racing driving 👍 No one can be more appropriate than him to test this chiron SS out in real-time 👏👏
Such a great presenter, no fluff and so concise.
Amazing review by Ben
I wish to see more videos of him
Makes me wonder that we missed a lot of his brilliance all those years behind the helmet
We need to put the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport around our test track, and for that we will need a tame racing driver. Some say that if you look him very closely in the eye you can see the outline of a white helmet staring back at you, and that he's rather taken a liking to books. All we know is he's *not* the Stig, but he *is* the Stig's sacked cousin!
@8:41 - 8:45 it was at that moment stig was a kid again... The power hit and the smile of holy mother came...
Not much can cause Ben to react like this.... but his face in this instance was more than words could express...
Brilliant...
please make a ex-stig series, along with the trio
Andy Wallace is now 60 years old, doing 304mph in a production car needs great nerve, skill and reactions.
That's not a car....it's a pure work of art, simply sublime 😍
As much as I enjoyed the stig on TG, this video makes me realise that Ben was wasted hidden beneath a helmet and a visor
I loved that fun fact Ben threw out there. The tyres are only rated to go 304 mph for 15 minutes but you would run out of fuel in 12.
Seems I remember the Hammster driving one of these on a track in Germany at around 270. I think it was actually the Veron though.
Great episode! This car is a MASTERPIECE of automotive engineering and it just looks STUNNING! WOW!
I was just thinking that the car has a warp core at the back. and he said it. I'm shocked! Nicely presented! I'm still shocked btw..
Watching Ben and hearing his voice makes me feel sad that we have never seen him with the Trio without the Stig attire...
I know what a missed opportunity...........
WOW - more Ben please. I very quickly I stopped focussing on the fact I was watching and listening to one of the finest cars ever built and instead realised I was watching and listening to one of the finest car reviews ever made. And this is long before we got to the "M3 on each wheel" metaphor.
If Amazon has any brains whatsoever, they have to realize this is the guy you want to make an actual car review show with.
Grand Tour is not a car review show. It is three older British guys cocking about all over the globe.
The best presenter of any car, hidden talent of being just the Stig. Superb.
does anybody else think top gear would’ve been a funnier show if Ben Collins was a presenter and James may was the stig
"...and The Stig gets lost again!" lol
This is going to be awesome.
Thank you for covering the engine sound with music.
It is interesting how engineers arrive at similar conclusions via wildly different means. This car: 16 cylinders + 4 turbos + AWD.
A comparable car in terms of speed is a Koenigsegg Agera RS: 5lt V8 + 2 turbos + 2 wheel drive.
MORE FROM BEN PLEASE : A great presenter. Informative, but great diction and use of language. Props to the photographer and director too : nice saturated colours, shot choices, framing, shot collation.
The Veyron was an absolute monster of a car but it looked HEAVY, even the Super Sport model...the Chiron on the other hand looks a bunch lighter just by the styling of it. It (the Veyron) felt heavy to drive in Forza Motorsport too, I remember it understeering a lot at slower speeds, doesn't appear to be the case with the Chiron with what I'm hearing Ben say here.
I hated the Bugatti in forza 4, especially because nephew ALWAYS picked it lol. I remember when he would come over he would go for the Xbox within 2 hrs and I usually had forza in there n he would always spend all my credits and leave greasy cheeto prints all over the wheel haha
What a presentation. What a car. What a driver... This video was near perfection. Thanks DriveTribe!
The extended tail and rear diffuser of the super sport is truly what the original design was missing. The rear honches are accented brilliantly and there is a supple fluidity over the muscular arches, its absolutely stunning.
If Ben Collins did some car drives as himself, then as the Stig without ever telling us, I would not have complained. Mate you're an awesome presenter. Hope to see more of you on Drivetribe.
Well done sir! A brilliantly presented little film about an astonishingly brilliant car.
Really glad to see Ben doing this, he's such a talent it's a crime that he isn't on this channel more. I'd watch his videos tear-arsing around a track or up a mountain in a stunning piece of exotica.
Drivetribe, sort it out and make it happen!

Top gear shouldn’t of silenced this guy. Top presenter.
