    Well done Will! Minimalism look sooo easy but is one of the more difficult types of layouts to accomplish.

    I'd be curious to see you make a video about margins and bleed, although I'm not sure how much you work with print. I'm technically a graphic designer working at a printing franchise, and it's amazing the number of designers and artists who walk in not understanding how margin/trim/bleed is important.

    • @roguewavecreative
      @roguewavecreative 3 года назад

      really? that is kinda sad. That is something you learn early but especially now a days print online have templates with bleed. Maybe its a lot of DIYers?

    Your video was very helpful! Balance and proportion are probably the biggest challenges. The only thing I somewhat disagree with you on is using a single font. It is a great tip for starting out but sometimes three fonts are better. Outside of that I agree with everything else you talked about.

      @@willpatersondesign Perhaps more into the subject of logo design in a minimal way. As you shared in this video quickly, but more getting why a minimal design may work best and how a concept can be different to leave out specific parts. Might also refer to negative space vs minimal designs.

    this video is helpful. i was looking for minimalist learning for a digital design. by the way, the end result that matchs what we want is determined by our interest/client's interest, isn't it?

    Hi will, excellent video! I was just wondering if you know anything about packaging design? specifically how you should send over the designs to the client? I' ve been asked to design some product packaging but I'm not sure how I need to send the final designs over, do I send it as over on a to-scale template of the box or do I just send each side of the box on different files? I hope this makes sense haha, thanks in advance!

      I'm not a packaging designer, I suggest you ask someone who specialises in that or google for the topic, so I don't know how it is on actually the delivery of each individual file and their arrangement and how your design should look inside of them. However, as for a presentation, I would assume that the neatest you can get is opening a 3D software of sorts (Cinema 4D Lite comes together with After Effects if you want to go through extra steps to open it, or you can use Blender) and using your designs as an image texture for the packaging model. As for the files themselves, I don't know, but here's a couple of ideas for where to find out:
      Look for websites or services that actually manufacture packaging and look for the files they demand
      (most importantly, you should always do it but definitely if there is no clear industry standard format used 99%+ of the time) just ask your client about that
      And the simplest thing imaginable, of course, just look for packaging guides online.
      I know I kinda answered the question without answering it, but I hope it nevertheless helps somewhat.

      Simon Thankyou! I didn’t think about looking at websites that actually manufacture packaging, appreciate the reply 😊

      I would suggest - if in doubt send everything within different files with CLEAR file names. You could also ask them what they would prefer :)

    My number 1 tip for minimal design: PLEASE STOP. It was cool and refreshing around 2013 but since then literally everyone adopted this look and it's not special anymore. People are getting sick of seeing it everywhere they go. Let's move on to the next trend already!
