- My third and final Villain Tribute to someone named Megatron. We honor the greatest Decepticon leader to ever grace the screen, Animated Megatron. The Megatron BW Megatron thinks he named himself after. The Megatron that the Supreme Dumbass from G1 wishes he could be.

I love the way this Megatron says the word Autobot like its a slur. He says it with just complete and utter disgust. every. single. time.
Trust me, if you had to say your enemies’ names over and over again, you’d be disgusted too.

I love how in this version Optimus Prime is just some random dude and, Megatron has no idea who he is. He spends the majority of the series just going "who's man's is dis' ?"
He doesn't really seem to know who any of the autobots are except for Ultra Magnus. He does say his name once in season 3, but onlybecause he actually fears him.

@@ReligiousPrime Which is fair considering the only bots on Team Earth and part of Sentinel’s crew that were alive during the war are Prowl, Jazz, and Ratchet. The other major Autobot characters are significantly younger than Megatron, Ultra Magnus, Prowl, Ratchet, and Jazz.
G1 Megatron: Keeps Starcream as a punching bag if his mission go awry.
Animated Megatron: Kills Starcream so his mission wouldn't go awry.

Sadly for him Animated Starscream is literally immortal.
That's why Animated Megatron is the superior Megatron.
Hate to break the praise as much as I love Animated Megatron someone already beat him on that part. That being Cyberverse Megatron who brutalized Starscream to death.
Pretty sure cyberverse came after animated.
I especially love how at the end Optimus doesn't say some bullshit about how he can't kill someone. He instead tells Megatron that death would be too kind a reward for him and takes him away.
I love that moment.
At least they kept Optimus consistent to how he was in G1. They made him new and fresh, but kept some of his most important traits consistent, like being strong enough to be gentle, and not being able to kill needlessly.
Meanwhile bayformers Optimus wouldn’t hesitate to rip out this Megatron’s spark and make him look at it before crushing it.

Can we just talk about how massive the decepticons are in animated, the majority of them are bigger than Optimus prime, Megatron basically being twice the size of Optimus. Other transformers media always had them be around equal in size. But animated took a completely different approach, making victory seem in favour of the decepticons, and I dig it
I saw someone say how the decepticons in Animated are the military class while autobots are the working class, which also explains the difference in arsenals.
That’s kinda how it was in G1, Autobots were Laborers, Decepticons were Military, but then it was kinda hard to believe since everyone couldn’t aim. Here I totally buy it though! And Megatron, ooooof!! This Megatron is amazing!
It certainly helps sell them as a threat. The use of human villains as "day to day" trials for the Autobots also helped the show maintain the menace of the Decepticons.
It also helps that the ones we get, while few in number, are really fun as antagonists.

Not really, in TFP Megatron towered over everyone except Predaking. In the first live action, everyone besides Barricade and Frenzy were taller than the Autobots. Though this show made it abundantly clear of their physicality.
The only megatron to not shout 'prime...' Whenever they fight.

Love how more pragmatic and tactical this version of Megatron is. He spends most of the first season as nothing more than a disembodied head but is still able to cause trouble by manipulating Dr. Sumdac and spreading his influence across Earth. He even "kills" Starscream the moment he gets the chance. That's something no version of Megatron up to that point has ever done.

Yeah, I love Beast Wars Megatron but Animated Megatron was the most menacing/creepy/effective/cold Megatron of the ones I've seen (I have missed seeing a lot of the anime Transformers like Armada though so I don't have a huge basis of comparison).
In the Armada comics, he wanted to make a deal with the wounded Unicron.
Now that you mention it, they both resemble their bw counterparts when it comes to personality

Xanatos was always presented as the master of finding the silver lining. His greatest strength was in engineering no-lose scenarios in which he stood to gain no matter which side achieved their goals. There's a reason that the Xanatos Gambit is named after him.
The movies should take more inspiration from Animated Megatron in terms of personality, cunning, manipulative, and threatening. You do not want to mess with this Megatron, because he will kill you no matter what.
If he doesn't kill you, he will exploit you to his benefits even if your friend or foe

After the first offense, yes. Unfortunately, however, Starscream found that AllSpark fragment in his forehead, and Megatron was trying to fight a (nearly) unkillable force.

-great design, enough red to make him pop.
-love his personality, i feel like he's the most suffocated version than any other( the con frickin drinks oil from a twist oil barrel to resemble a wine glass, LIKE WHO EVEN DOES THAT).
-the Osprey-like vehicle mode makes him look more slick
-happens to be the first megatron to kill their starscream onsite(i think atleast)
-and actually kills starscream(for a while atleast) after the first treacherous attempt.
It may be sacrilegious of me to say this but Corey Burton is and always has been my favorite voice for Megatron. Don’t get me wrong, Frank Welker will always be the king, the OG, THE voice of Megatron. But Corey Burton’s voice is just so villainous and distinguished. He was my first Megatron and he definitely holds a special place in my heart for his performance

All three of his famous voice actors seem to embody a different aspect of Megatron the best. Frank Welker is easily the best not just because he’s the first one to voice buckethead, but also have that intimidating growl of power that is Megatron. David Kaye easily voices the most charismatic and manipulative of Megatrons. Corey Burton easily proves to be most suited for the cold and calculating version of Megatron.
Nothing sacrilegious about that. Opinions are opinions. He’s also my favorite.
Corey Burton's Megatron is top tier, but no one can or will ever replace Frank Welker's awesome Megatron voice as number 1..
This was the first version of Megatron to legitimately terrify me when I was a little kid.

Certainly shows just how much Megatron has grown to resent both Optimus & his small team of Autobots, AND humanity due to Issac Sumdac harvesting pieces of his head for 50 years to create a technological industrial revolution. Far from simply caring little about either factors from around Season 1.
Hell, had Season 4 been greenlit, we would’ve seen Megatron begin to descend further towards madness & pure hatred due to his Marauder/Triple-Changer upgrades.

I noticed that, compared to TFP Megatron, TA Megatron is more forgiving of failure and less forgiving of betrayal.
Yes,this is actually makes him more dangerous. Like the time he forgive Lugnut,and it did payed for him in the end. Meanwhile Tfp one let Breakdowm beign captured by humans. Or not letting Silas join his team.
And unlike Tfp,he learns from his mistakes. Keeping loyal ones close after Starscreams betrayal. Tfa Shockwave is basically Tfp counter part of Soundwave. And Lugnut is basically Fanatic Dreadwing.
Meanwhile Tfp one killed Dreadwing. And keep Starscream(who betrayed him) and Shockwave(who also planned to betray him in the past) as his first lieutenants.
Animated is what got me into transformers, I will always love this series

I agree this Megatron is competent and deals with obstacles accordingly and most of all he never underestimates his enemies not even Starscream or Optimus the only reason the Autobots are still alive is because of Starscream's treachery and their human allies.

With the new Legacy Toyline bringing in the Stunticons I hope we eventually see the Constructicons with heads sculpts based on the Animated versions. With Dirtboss as a Headmaster for Devastator.
i’m looking at my knock off Devastator reading this and wow, that would be cool. I think they would have to make an entirely new version of him for that to work.
TF prime megatron was cool but TF animated megatron was my favorite incarnation of megatron.

Around the 5:30 mark, I was hoping that scene would be in here.
You can tell he's manipulating them. He starts out acting like a bully by grabbing their throats and holding them against the wall. But then after they say that they're the 'scum of the universe', he switches to playing the victim, saying they 'were oppressed' and so on.
I only know about that scene because of manipulation research I've been doing recently. If there are other parts when/where he's manipulative, I don't know where.
Pretty much any scene in which he interacts with Sumdac before Lugnut and Blitzwing come to deliver the key.

Megatron is willing to retake their home planet at all cost, even going as so far as destroying earth, which ironically is what they them alive for so long, and giving not tactical advantage what so ever in their grand scheme.

This is my favorite iteration of most of these characters. They could've probably planned like 15 seasons for this show and it would've been great entire time with all the lore and characters in the series. It's too bad they canceled it, even if it was for Prime another great series.
Still one of my favorite Megatrons of my childhood. A proper villain and warlord that Megatron should be.

This show should have gotten more seasons. This was a good show, and showed such respect to the Source material while giving new swings on characters. And I love Tony managed to get some actors To Repries their voice rolls for their Characters They played in the original show.

Like i said before he nearly won the war in more then meets the eye when he outwitted Prime into making him fight fake Decepticon he could of won if it was not for Starscream. In Prime problem it was Megatron that aknowledge that Prime would not do something stupid such has checking a energy substances without knowing what it is. He came up with a lot of clever plan in the show.

Oh, and I love G1 cause he was the original, but yeah, he was written in an 80's cartoon where at the time they had agreed to always portray bad guys as never having anything good about them (They had to be cowardly, stupid, and in general have nothing you could admire about them). The good guys were crippled into being boring though by always having to be goody two shoes and never having anything bad about them. All in all, I think the good guys got the worst end of the stick.

Whenever Beast Wars Megatron mentioned Megatron as being the ruthless tyrant and the greatest leader of Decepticons, this version of Megatron and Prime Megatron are his proper namesake. Not G1 Megatron who is just idiotic goofball. Look I respect G1 and I love Frank Welker voiced as Megatron and I know G1 is just a normal Saturday morning cartoon. But I'm sorry guys, G1 Megatron doesn't feel badass and cool as Animated and Prime Megatron.
I really liked what they did with Starscream also. He was a comedic snivelling coward like the original. But he was also clearly ridiculously dangerous which is just perfect.
