It is so prefect in English and in German! Any time I hear it in German I always think about the Christmas Truce during WWI when the British and German soldiers were both singing it at the same time.
Same here. Every year my church ends the Christmas Eve service by turning off all lights except for those on the Christmas trees and everyone holds a candle and we sing Silent Night. It's so beautiful it always makes me feel like I'm going to tear up😊 Merry Christmas to all!
@@lydia4127 We did that, as usual, in my Lutheran Church in California tonight. I sang it in German ('Stille Nacht.Weilige Nacht . . .) and heard many others doing the same. Army base ? Nuremburg has some of the best Christmas traditions there did you know that Sandra Bullock , the actress, grew up there in Nuremberg ? She speaks perfect German.
Here in Brazil (Sao Paulo) we decorated the Christmas tree at the beginning of December and only took it down on January 6th. We don't use candles, it's very dangerous! But we always decorate it with colored balls and lots of little electric blinker lights. We generally use artificial pine-shaped trees as it is more practical, but some people also prefer to use small natural pine trees. During this period we usually eat raisin fruit panettone or chocolate panettone. On Christmas Eve (24th) and lunch (25th) we gather with close family or friends and celebrate with a table full of food, usually roast pork or poultry accompanied by rice, salads, pasta and many sweet dessert dishes. Another difference is that December is summer in the southern hemisphere, so Santa Claus sweats a lot in his winter clothes when he arrives here!
I spent 3 years in Germany (USAF) and miss the gluhwein. My friend and his wife lived off base and their German neighbor gave them some that was home made. It was sooo good!
My Dad passed earlier this month and this is the hardest Christmas without him. I am however grateful he was blessed to be 100 years old and 6 months before the Lord called him Home.
Listening to your family singing the carols choked me up. We came to the US in 1963 from Germany and I have not heard the German carols since then. It was pretty emotional for this 73 year old. Thank you and hertzliches neues yahr.
@beasley1232 Most Christmas traditions were dispised in the U.S. specifically New England. The holiday was seen as English, and there was a lot of resentment towards England because of the Revolutionary war and the war of 1812. It also had to do with the fact that new England was populated by later day Puritans who thought Christmas was hedonistic and sinful- music, dancing, eating, drinking, and expeessing love might lead to eternal damnation , so many of these traditions including the tree were outlawed.
My mother was German and my father was American. We had both American and German traditions. My mom put candles on the tree and we had electric lights on the tree too. My mom lite the candles on Christmas Eve and we sang German Christmas songs. Then she put them out and plugged the lights in and sang American Christmas songs.😅

Love your videos. We just returned to the US from Munich for our 6th Christmas Market trip since 2016. Thanks for sharing the German traditions. My mom's family was from Poland, so we generally have a modest dinner of fish and potatoes on Christmas Eve where we "break bread" with everyone at the table and give them our wishes for the new year. Then we have a traditional American Christmas morning on the 25th with opening the small gifts in the stockings and the larger gifts in the early afternoon while the Turkey is in the oven. I was so happy to hear some of the lovely German Christmas carols at the markets in Regensburg, Tegernsee and Salzburg this year. (I have learned some of them from old records that my wife's mom had -- she was from Munich too.) I love being able to share the various traditions that make Christmas even more special.
You have a very lovely family holiday experience here. I hope the 2024 holiday is equally as beautiful as this 2023 video shows. A nice home. Friendly relatives. Pretty decorations. Good food and good feelings all the way around. The picture perfect Christmas setting. You are very fortunate. Thank you for sharing with us! And Merry Christmas to you and your family Feli!

Thanks for showing us this glimpse into family celebrations! There is a story my father-in-law likes to tell about how, one Christmas, his dad had so much trouble setting up the Christmas tree that he nailed it to the floor. NAILED it to the wooden floor of the house. Lol. Needless to say, his dad was in a bad mood and my FIL hightailed it out of there, ha.

That was a fantastic video! I always like seeing different cultures and how they celebrate the holidays. Been to many parts, and even though there may be variations, WE are more alike than not. Something we need to appreciate / remember in today's society.
This was terrific! Loved hearing your family sing the German Christmas songs. I know Stille Nacht und O Tannenbaum. I still sing them myself, and I recognize a couple of others but not enough to sing along. Thank you for sharing. I miss my German parents so much.
We have always had real candles on our trees (my Dad was Swiss as you may have guessed from my last name). And we had to go upstairs on Christmas Day afternoon and wait for the bell to say that we could come down as well. We also sing carols around the tree, although your family does it much better. One rule we had that you didn't mention (and it may be that my family invented it) was that all the kids had to give everyone at least one present, but they absolutely HAD to be something you completely made yourself. And I grew up in Clifton Gaslight in Cincinnati until I was ten...
Years ago...when I was in junior high school...on Dec. 21st (my late mother's birthday) our family packed into four different cars (I have four sisters and one brother; at the time there were four nieces and nephews as well) for our annual shopping trip to Frankenmuth, Michigan. While in Bronner's, we came upon a Christmas album sung in German. EVERY ONE of the tunes your family and you sang back in 2023 was in that album and we used to play it judiciously every Christmas season! I STILL remember that it started out with, "Kling Gloetchen." (No umlauts on my phone.)
Messi , he plays for Miami now right ? Um, that's quite a downgrade in my opinion from the clubs in Europe no one watches footaball(soccer) that much in the US , they must have paid him a heap of money.
@@gregorygant4242 Your analysis is correct, but he is already in the physical decline of his career (he continues to do magical things, but less and less) and he deserves a peaceful end in an environment that appreciates him and allows him to be comfortable with his family. Unlike many professional players, he is a calm and family-oriented person. Greetings from Patagonia and Merry Christmas!!
Hello Feli, thank you so very much for showing your Christmas in Bavaria, your family’s traditions, decorations, tree and candles, Christmas songs and carols and wonderful food shared together, fantastic. Here in my home in Oxfordshire, alas no tree, no candles or singing, but Glühwein, Lebkuchen stars and chocolate hearts and a Marzipan Stollen and just a simple turkey (No stuffing) with roast potatoes and parsnip (my fan oven ist kaput so had use the chip pan but I use olive oil) and boiled carrot and Brussels sprouts. The turkey thigh, I cooked in the microwave oven. It worked out quite well and tasted good. Sadly no room for Christmas Pudding. Wishing you and your family 🎄Love Peace and Happiness🎄 From Oxfordshire 🎄🇬🇧❤️🇩🇪🎄
Fröhliche Weihnachten from LA. Beautiful video. I really love the German Christmas traditions very similar to how my family still celebrates in Berlin and Dresden. Another delicious tradition is the fruit cake Christstollen. Viele Grüße
Merry Christmas! Thank you for sharing insights into how your family celebrates Christmas in Bavaria. White sausage with pretzels sounds interesting! In North Rhine-Westphalia, it’s common to eat duck or goose with potatoes, croquettes, or dumplings. Also we watch Christmas movies, like Die Hard or Gremlins. 😂
What a wonderful family, Feli! It warms my heart to see all of you together. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 😊🎄❤️🎉😉🎁🎅🏼
Christmas was a huge part of my family's life until my mother passed away in 1990. Since then we rarely see each other. She was the glue that held us all together. Nowadays my wife, borther-in-law and I gather at my mom-in-law's house for dinner (almost always homemade lasagna and cheesecake; they're Italian) and the exchanging of gifts. I also watch an episode of the 1970s TV show "Kolchak: the Night Stalker," which is a treat for me because I wasn't allowed to watch it when I was a kid.
Nussknacker und Mausekoenig by E.T.A. Hoffmann is one of my favorite Christmas stories. It's the main reason I know about German Christmas traditions like presents on Christmas Eve instead of Christmas, and presents from Christkind.
Merry Christmas & Frohe Weihnachten everyone! 🎄😊 How do YOU celebrate Christmas? Share it in the comments!

That little baking thing you melt cheese in when eating is awesome
Your cousin's wife is Argentine!!!
A great greeting from Patagonia and a very Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Messi , he plays for Miami now right ? Um, that's quite a downgrade in my opinion from the clubs in Europe no one
watches footaball(soccer) that much in the US , they must have paid him a heap of money.
@@gregorygant4242 sorry but i can't recall, did someone ask for your opinion?
@@jgeur I didn't ask for yours I just made a comment since his wife is from Argentina .
Don't get your knickers in a knot there Sir .
Happy holidays to all who are following Feli!
Aw, your family is amazing! The carols made me tear up remembering Christmas’s in Germany.
Wishing you and your family
🎄Love Peace and Happiness🎄
From Oxfordshire 🎄🇬🇧❤️🇩🇪🎄

Merry Christmas, Feli & Ben.
Beautiful tradition in Germany 🇩🇪. Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas and many more.
Merry Christmas Feli! Have a wonderful holiday and a happy new year!! 😘🎄😘
Frohe Weihnachten wünsche ich euch alle 🎄🎁 🎅🏻👌🏻👍🏻
Sausage and Pretzels sound wonderful !
Fröhliche Weihnachten from LA. Beautiful video. I really love the German Christmas traditions very similar to how my family still celebrates in Berlin and Dresden. Another delicious tradition is the fruit cake Christstollen. Viele Grüße
Like you, and SOOOOOOO many others on RUclips, I make full use of the “Christmas Village” music - because it’s PERFECT!
Thank for sharing your Christmas with us. It reminded me of how we celebrated Christmas with my grandparents when I was a child.
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.🎅
Watching a silent night documentary and videos of the Christmas Truce. Merry Christmas 🎄
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Nussknacker und Mausekoenig by E.T.A. Hoffmann is one of my favorite Christmas stories. It's the main reason I know about German Christmas traditions like presents on Christmas Eve instead of Christmas, and presents from Christkind.
That was a lot of singing😅😂
Thank you very much for sharing and merry Christmas!
