Yeah, interesting words from smcg since they had a double fatality with a rider that was unlicensed for the bike he was on. They knew he wasn't licensed yet let him ride.
Been riding since the 60s and never had a ticket got my L plates in 68 and am still riding at the ripe ole age of my late 70s on my FJR 1300 Yamaha and no it's not an ex police bike it's an 06 FJR with 166000 KMs and will probably outlive me ride safe and stay upright
SMCG had a recent double fataility in one of there night rides. Theres a time and place, but setting land records through a busy suburban area is not it. I can only feel for the innocent girl who had her life in the hands of a lams rider on a s1000rr. The car they T-boned literally flipped. Our existence on earth is short, but we're a long time dead. I know bike life is life for some, but theres also more to it. I hope we can encourage more safe riding. Again, time and place... we all love to do wheelies and speed. RIP to the young couple, shattering for their families and friends.
I rode with SMCG once.. felt it was not for me as there was too many idiots in the group. Months later they had two fatalities on their ride so I feel vindicated as to why I didn't go back to them.
Never liked these groups. Used to ride a few times in 2012, 2013. Syd West riders did not have a good name. Anyway these groups: Nobody adhered to road rules, too many young idiots acting dumb, and also a haven for the wrong types. Some groups there embedded are there to steal your ride. I encountered a viet guy who had stolen a few bikes and tried to do the same to mine. Just avoid these groups full of unknowables who will get you into deep shit. You will be safer on your own, save yourself from bad riders and questionable characters, and no need to hang with trouble.
See a few groups at the bike hangout spots here in Perth though not a fan of riding with them, too many riders with questionable skills and too many riders more interested in photos and videos for their social media pages.
A couple years back I was up kangaroo valley behind a r1 and it was following a ninja 300. I overtook them and said to meself “get out the way kids”. Pulled up to a cafe down in Nowra and grabbed a coffee, as I’m sitting there sipping it they pulled up. Helmet come off the ninja and it was a young girl early 20s, R1 pulls off a helmet and here is Casey Stoner. This bloke would have seen me pass em and had a good ol giggle at me form.
Thanks for the interviews matey! Glad we could have you there at motoschool!
