be good,
Tim
In theory, great idea. In practice, well It could be used against you buying 'yet another' guitar by 'the wife'.
martin draycott good point!
They would play and sound exactly the same, so your wife would have to let you buy more. That's the rules.
Paul Lee you have a solid point. Are you a lawyer? :)
martin draycott :ll
Don't care about your wife more than she does for you.
When you have a heavy metal concert at 8 but you have a jazz concert at 9
slip not haha!
or....you got a cyndi lauper cover band ...and then "mutley crow " covers
21 frets for metal, hmm...🤔🤔
for people who do not care the sound the guitar produce, yeah it works.
Somethings not right about ur comment slip not, oh right you have 666 likes on your comment XD
You need to make a guitar company and sell these!!!!😳
I’m a maintenance engineer in the UK, working with machines from the 40’s to the present day. So I have to work with imperial & metric everyday. I’m just trying to wrap my head round a 64th of a millimetre???? That said......... Love the work you do 👍
Andy Coates hahaha! I misspoke but left it because I thought it was funny :)
Okay Tim now you’ve boldly gone where no man has gone before! And I must admit it was worth the trip. I’m actually pretty impressed with the tone of the instrument and through the little screen on my phone the paint job looks great. Really clever idea my friend.
thank you!!
Tim! I've only watched 1.25 of your videos, but what I love about you is that you use whatever materials you have around, and you are not afraid to go with what works, despite the naysayers! As a very technical and musical guy, I know that what works, works! Thanks!
wow, thanks man! I figure the technical types (technical players at least) will cringe and hate this guitar!
Les Paul would have loved this!
Refuse Reuse his first was made the same, except with nails instead of t-track! :)
tim sway Oh yes, I know! It was called the log. He was quite the innovator.
Refuse Reuse and les paul may help him produce these and i know that he’s making a the log like guitar but its just for cosmetics because les paul just made the log because he doesnt want the vibrations from the hollowbody thats why its regard as the 1st solidbody guitar
THE LOG 2018
That WHIP IT and CRAZY TRAIN demo is just as awesome as the guitar transtions from one look to another
The project is great, but what a killer thumbnail! I hope this one gets some traction.
the follow up is better :)
go post it on Reddit for me. I was banned. lol
tim sway way ahead of you! Already on there. What did you do, they no like Sway? Haha
I'm not sure. one day I realized my posts weren't visible to others, so I bailed. There are enough people to hate my work on YT already, I don't need more.
Love how you played devo with the guitar without sides. Fits so well lol
I want one!
You should totally patent this design, and license it with a big company like Fender.
Eric Kleefeld I gave away all my plans on the internet for free instead. #badBusinessMan
You could set up an online business to make these. What would your price be?
Eric Kleefeld I think it would have to be priced kind of a la carte, depending on what configuration you want and you need to see my latest multiinstrument version... is it a fender style bass with a guitar and uke, a bc rich like guitar with a drum and marimba, an sg with a 12 string and a cajon... possibilities are darn near endless!
yes please gibson needs to get on this shit
I would love just the one in the video :)
This is so cool. You could even make different necks for it. 7 string, 8 string, mandolin, banjo, fretted bass, fretless bass, you'd be prepared for ANY situation.
I see you found the follow up! I made it a 10 string :) lol
The Nintendo switch guitar
Original Name really boi
hope its not as shitty.
ha noice
Play at home, play on the road... Yes, in fact it is!!! that's great!!!
I'm a fan of your work . No idea how I missed this build . Congrats . Wonderful design and construction
So cool to see someone do this!! I had a Steinberger (one of those 80's guitars) in high school and I wanted to make something like this out of it so bad. This is wonderful work 👍
nice to see re-cycled wood, being used, thats great, made my first electric out of 2" thick pine, used gibson humbucker, sounded great!! excellent video !
Gene Kloszewski awesome man. The music is in you, not the wood with strings on it :) thank you.
What a totally cool idea. Now it would be really interesting to compare it from a tonal point of view with a regular electric!
Hans Baumeister thanks! Obviously a solid guitar made from halfway decent wood will sound better, but so much of an electric's tone comes from the amp and emerging technology I think it's time to stop cutting down rare African trees just so I can play Zeppelin covers in a local bar :)
Hi Tim, fully agree. Personally, I‘m very convinced that the whole „this wood sounds better than that wood“ discussion is complete hogwash. I‘d love to do the ultimate test: put exactly the same hardware on a plywood body and an identical hardwood body and then measure the output tone in a scientific way.
I very much doubt even academic musicians would be able to pass a blind hearing test to differentiate between the two. 90% of the tone is in the fingers, 10% in the hardware is my take on it.
Hans Baumeister I'm in the same camp EXCEPT when talking about true acoustic instruments, then it makes a difference but again, at what cost? I have videos about instruments made from skis, hollow doors and other crap that I've actually gigged hundreds of times with and earned the same pay as the other guys with their bubinga and unicorn horn guitars :)
1) can't believe you don't have more subs
2) watching you work, I think I completely missed my true professional calling 😅😅
ah, the timtendo switch
Great idea. It's fun to see how much you were enjoying the sliding action with your chuckling.
This is a cool build. The interchangeable guitar is a great fun concept!
I'm proud of you - Tim. (That's excellent!) // For people that think it's crazy, Les Paul had a similar guitar (called "The Log") - which had two halves that connected to a solid center. (He was trying to have a hollow-body guitar - with sustain like a solid-body.) // This is a cool way - to own more than one instrument, with-out having to save for multiple axes.
I didn't say "I'm proud" - to be sarcastic, Tim. // Today - people need a way around costs, and guys like you - can help enthusiasts reach their goals. (Keep rockin'!)

Hey thanks man! I like to make things that make people think. And I was absolutely thinking about the Log throughout the process. Be good! -t
a 3 in 1 multi-guitar! I love it!
you know how I love multi tools :)
That’s awesome as frig! I would have left the main part parallel so I could have single part attachments instead of 2 separate pieces.
That is ridiculously cool.
Designed this back in the 80's original idea was a main body guitar that would lock into the different body styles with built in effects. The body style was a quick change with spring loaded lock down pins. We wanted to base the idea of buying the main guitar, then being able to buy the different styles sold separately.
cheers. there are a few guys doing this on a larger and tighter level as companies, too, including one with interchangeable pickup configurations that's pretty slick. This was my attempt at a "reclaimed/diy" version for weekend warriors and woodshoppers :)
Tim, again thanks for sharing such an awesome project with us! ... Be Good ;) ~ Beki
thank YOU for your support!
Any way you could give a discount for someone who MAYBE makes one or two carves every few months?
Richard Masci Buy vcarve desktop. Use it to make a couple signs for your neighbors to pay for it then go have fun!
Nice one! For the wiring, you may find it easier drilling for the pickup wire from the back of the neck pocket. That way you're not worried about angles so much.
Thank you Kanye, very cool!
Dude that is such a fantastic idea. Modular guitar bodies. Genius.
I totally forgot you were working on this. Now if you could make it self playing, I’d have a guitar I could use. 🤣
hahaha!
I know I watched this a while back, but it's so good, it's worth a second watch! Awesome work. I like that you use reclaimed lumber and you're not worried about what kind of wood you use. It shows people they can make a cool guitar from any material. Nice work!👍😎🎸🎶
what a smart man we need more people like this dude. great vid;)
Smøøg thanks man. Check out my follow up video I posted this weekend!
yes sir
10:23 I find lots of people, (who dont make things) think that "assembly" is what making stuff is all about. while that may be the rewarding part of a build it is only a very small part and comes after you have done almost all of the actual work! Nice job with thinking this through and making it a reality!
TRUTH!
NIce. What's wrong with a V-guitar on a wedding? :P
The last variation was the best in my opinion (referring to the body with the aspire logo). I dig how it's natural and the center is painted. This is probably the best ever.
really? thanks! I was on the fence about painting it and decided to try something different - like the whole thing wasn't different enough, lol
What the! you are like the Einstein of upcycling, brilliant.
haha! hardly, but thank you.
Your guitars are so whacky and cool. Id love to see an entire store filled with your strange guitars. Be a super cool vibe.
I actually have an art gallery showing in Ridgefield CT July 14-Sept 11 where about 20 of them will be on display and for sale,. in varying degrees of wackiness. www.rpacgallery.com/
Honestly this is such a cool idea, good job dude
thanks!
I feel like I should've jumped on this when I considered it. I think it was back in '14 that I pictured a "modular" guitar... though, it was more than just the shape.
Glad to see someone else had the same idea!
great minds, right? there's at least one company out there manufacturing something similar, so we are not alone. Stick around for next week's follow up to this. I think you'll dig it :)
Either great minds, or fools! Heh.
I'll keep an eye out, see what comes up.
haha! true!
So incredibly cool! Love it!
thanks. wait until you see the follow up to this :)
This would be amazing to carve and interchange detailed custom art
I really liked this video! You are truly an artist!
Federico Giacobazzi thank you!!
You could turn it around and use it as a cricket bat too. Really liked the lp record being reused as a scratch plate, a totally appropriate reuse, I hadn't realised it could be cut without crumbling.
indeed!
Tim, this is awesome! I applaud your persistence while learning the CNC router skill set. I can see your comfort level is maturing and you are starting to really have some fun. Very cool!
thanks man! I'm getting there...
My God. I'll watch the vid now. But just from the thumbnail, and the intro... I'm supper stoked to see that an idea I had 20 years ago has been made. I've still got the drawings in a sketchbook, and the method of attachment seems the same. Okay, gonna watch!
Only differences are, in my idea, I kept the control cavity under the high E, only, inline with the 'base' body, and the strap buttons were both on the underside, one just behind the underside of the bridge, the other attached to a modified neck screw. Really awesome to see this idea out there!
check out v 2.0: ruclips.net/video/2XLz5cQAWLA/видео.html
I was waiting to see this one. Looks great!
Make Build Modify thanks. I had to time it with Vectric. More to come!
That was great! Just remember to set the audio to the same volume so our ears don't bleed
*video gets removed by Nintendo for copyright (the fact that the sides of the guitar can slide off like a joycon)*
i was talking about doing this exact idea back in november...
glad to see it done
Brilliant project. Great video.
thanks! stay tuned. More to follow on this :)
You probably know this is how the first solid body guitar by Les Paul was made, used. Very similar. People freaked at the rectangular shape so he added the sides on it for shows.
Allen Freeman yes. They have a replica of it at the Rock and roll Hall of Fame. It's pretty cool to see.
I'm legitimately disappointed you didn't put one of each on at the same time
Cal T Sorry! I did in some of the photography I shared on social media.
There is a brief shot of a 335V, or was it a V355 ? Had me confused !
ive just spend the last hour or so watching a few of your vids.. and i really love the concept that you use recycled and discarded materials to build instruments.
its really inspiring to watch you building instruments..
you def earned my sub. keep up the awesome work.. cheers from denmark..
Les Peter Guitar Jam thanks man!
Friggin' cool build.
I do 50 guitars like that every day ....

Excellent job ... Love your video !!
haha! thanks man
excellent concept,
if you keep it inexpensive enough it'll sell like crazy with the right marketing good luck ☆
Thanks for the inspiration!
My dad and I recently got into building guitars, and this is one of the first things I wanted to try, but we couldn't quite figure out how to do it.
Chuck Ross give it a try. Share pics!!
Thats so cool Tim. I dig it you crazy cat!
Dude! I did a illustration/schematic for a report of almost this exact design back in highschool! Slideable pieces on the side so that I didnt have to stick with one style and all the controls behind the bridge! I'm super stoked to see it work/in action. I hope to see more things like this out there.
cheers! stay tuned to this weekend for a follow up that takes this to another level :)
I can't wait, I wonder if this can be used to make a double neck instrument attachment too haha!
Well. That was awesome.
thank you!!
Thats the most unique thing I had ever seen.
“Auto-tars Roll Out!”
Why would anyone give this video a thumbs down? Man are some people hard to please.
Some people are afraid of experimentation and change :)
Now I gotta try something Cigar Boxery Changable !!!
Kewl build Tim :-)
What a terrific idea. You could produce any guitar shape with this idea. There is a market for this I am sure. I enjoy watching you videos.
Aka "The Log."
Thanks Tim and thanks Vectric. Good stuff. Cheers, David
More than meets the eye
I see what you did there
Transformers: guitars in disguise
this is what i want, a woodworker + a musician!!!
Actually it has a tonal differences between each of the body :)
Cool dude
I'm not sure how I stumbled across this, but it's killer! Awesome video, and subbed!
40 seconds in was enough to persuade me to find that thumbs up button.
i'm a graphic designer :) and a musician too :) i wish i could have a CNC machine... Awesome !!! Congratulations :) keep on rocking my friend !!!
Is there a sound difference or is it only for aesthetics?
It's a stage gimmick. Makes no difference in sound :)
tim sway that makes sense
Uncle Squiddz people listen with their eyes first :)
What about electric guitar with an alder body vs ash vs mahogany? You changing the shape meaning changing the acoustic resonance of that guitar, right? That has no difference when being plugged in?
the way this connects, via aluminum and track and steel bolts, the additional wood makes no audible difference in resonance. I'm in the "tone wood is not that important" camp when it comes to electric guitars. Any minute changes to tone and sustain the species of wood makes to the electronic signal can easily be overcome with the turn of a knob . A true acoustic under the mic is a different story, granted. I did make another version of this from better wood (for aesthetics) you may dig: ruclips.net/video/2XLz5cQAWLA/видео.html
Like the movable bottom section for people of different body size who want to get the ideal knee rest position.
Pointless, but fun!
didierchadeau exactly :)but it would be a fun prop for the right cover band.
Neat build and he'll be able to get the tolerance darn near perfect ( wood contact for sustain ect )
A Flying-Steinberger-335?
It’s be even cooler if switching out the look changed the way it sounded. All of a sudden, you change the sides and it goes from some nice jazz to heavy metal in the middle of a wedding or something lol
Honestly though, this is awesome and sounds amazing!
you mean it's not cool enough?! haha JK.I would like to experiment with magnetic, electronic connections between the pieces, but I did this first: ruclips.net/video/2XLz5cQAWLA/видео.html
Great project, yet there is room for improvement. Body is too thin and wings are too sloppy. There should be better way to firmly attach them. Also pine is not really good wood for guitar, even though this piece is old (which is usually good).
The thing i loved most is that scratchplate from vinyl. I guess if I didn't hate scratchplates and had it on any of my guitars, I'd try to make same thing for myself =)
Also with your tools you can try to make something original for inlays. I personally hate that with modern technology it is extremely simple and cheap to make any sort of inlays, but guitar companies keep making boring dot inlays.
Anyway good stuff. Thanks!
Thorneyed watch the follow up video I posted this weekend. I think you'll dig it.
Will do!
Genius
I’ve been working on a similar design for upright bass and cello
Where do these dislikes come from?
My Horror FestEvil mostly "tone afficionados" who are simply missing the point :)
From idiots
From people who know that upcycling is not a real thing.
Snooby66 the word is new but the concept is as old as time. Everything here was once something else and will eventually be something new again.
On the path to perfection and awesomeness . My sincere congratulations. Patent it, can be a good item with significant sales.
Reclaimed or not...CNCed or not... This is sooOOO coooooOOOOOOOOLLLLLLL !!!!! Well done.
thanks! you don't need reclaimed or a cnc to do this, thats for sure, but that's how I roll :)
tim sway , of couse ;-) I was just underlying that whatever the tools and materials, I REALLY dig the concept and the results of this project.
And of course, I'd love to experiment with CNC too.
Did you ever listen to that record before you diced it up? Shostakovich's 'The Execution of Stepan Razin' is AMAZING. Shostakovich was one of the greatest music creators of the 20th century, and that piece was written at the height of his music creativity. In my opinion, better than most of the Beatles' records...
Nice work dude! Great idea! You can have whatever shape you want for whatever mood your in!
Great watching you having fun and doing what you love! I'm being good sometimes ;)
This is the Real Taste of Innovation ⭐ Compliments for yours original ideas 😉👌
I've been thinking about making a Guitar, never thought of making it on CNC, this could save me a lot of planing !!! Now I just have to get a CNC Carver !!!
cheers. You can make a guitar with nothing but a hand saw and chisel, but the more, fancier tools, the faster and more accurate it gets. If the CNC is too much, just get a good handheld router and make good templates. That's how I did it until now :)
That is an awesome idea. I will absolutely do something very similar. Thanx.
do it!
That was so cool. I liked to watch you make that guitar.
Why this chanell is so underrated, you are cool man, cool project!!!
I don't underrate it. lol. My content is all over the map and not in a trendy way. thanks!
This is so clever. Man, I wish I had this kind of creativity.
That intro is a crack up. Sweet.
Your channel inspires me man. I’ve now built a few guitars/basses now. I just gotta get a cnc!!!! You rule man🤘✌️
the cnc doesn't do anything you can't do, it just does it over and over again while you do something else. Mistakes can still happen, but they are less likely
Only 1 thing i would have changed, is used wooden dowels and wooden track for the slides(takes from the genius magnets) but would add A LOT more tone to it. Sounds very metallic ad bright. Awesome video! Made my soul very happy, as a guitarist. Thank you sir!
If i were to do it again I'd make a sliding wood dovetail but still use the magnets to keep it in place. cheers! -t
but I should mention I have another variation on this theme coming up soon, and there was this: ruclips.net/video/2XLz5cQAWLA/видео.html
Really awesome man, I proposed this as a project in uni last year so amazing to see it actually in real life!
cheers! there is a company that makes a more hi-tech setup for snapping different bodies on to an instrument base, but this is more fun :) go make your own!
Such a creative and cool idea, the result came out incredible. Thanks for sharing!
That’s honestly really innovative
