  • This is an Arduino project I've wanted to build for over a decade now. A DIY Color E-Paper Weather station project with an ESP32. I've finally made it and I am really excited- a battery-powered weather station project. I've built many weather station projects in the past, but this one is different. It can last on batteries for months. The reason for this is the amazing E-Paper display it uses. Let me show you how I built this project and how you can build your own using the same or a similar display.

    🛒 DHT22 Sensor: educ8s.tv/part/DHT22
    🛒 BMP180 Sensor: educ8s.tv/part/BMP180
    🛒 BME280 Sensor: educ8s.tv/part/BME280

    This is not just an amazing idea but also an amazing implementation.
    Please more of this. I love low energy projects that provide a lot

    Congratulations on achieving a long awaited dream! I think long term dreams are worthy goals to realize. One of my dreams was to build my own solar power system. The entire 3Kw system, from the first thought, to reality, was about 12 years.
    Again, good on ya!

    Thanks for sharing the awesome project! However do note not only the esp32 is drawing power when in sleep, there's static current from the LDO, standby power from the DHT and BMP sensors and the USB serial chip, and even the power from your lipo protection pcb. And they are way larger than 15 uA as most of them are not designed for such low power consumption at beginning. So frankly it won't last for months as you estimated.

    A great opportunity to work with API keys, something I have never done before.
    Thanks for sharing this great project.
    I do wish the e-ink display were more affordable. Considering its small size it's really expensive.

    Great work!!! does the screen support partial updates so the whole screen doens't need to flash?

    Compare the power of today's $5 ESP32-S3-N16R8 module, to a $2500 IBM PC XT of 1980?
    Indeed my friend, I have seen this movie from the start, staring the $1000 TRS80 model 1 (Trash-80) from RadioShack in 1979.
    But hey, one could play pong on it! A $1000 useless computer it was. So I took it back, and got my money back after a week.
    Ended up building a ZX81 a year later for under $100! Had the same power and memory as the over-priced $1000 Trash-80.

    Do you need to update the whole screen every 6 minutes? Couldn't you just draw the changed pixels (and update the full screen every hour) to save your battery?

    • @Educ8s
      @Educ8s  5 месяцев назад

      You can't do that in e-paper displays. They don't work like regular displays. There is a thing called partial update of the screen but does not work on color e-paper displays.

    Hello Sir, I have a HP laptop and while all the software has been installed, and the upload runs until arduino says it has done hard reset, but no screen interaction. On the serial monitor, there is a constant 1.5 sec frequency reset being displayed on it. Is there a reason for this or does the code need a change? I have uploaded other code from the inkplate github web site showing the 6 color welcome screen, therefore I believe the issue is not in the laptop software. Do /would you have any ideas?

    • @Educ8s
      @Educ8s  5 месяцев назад

      Please use the latest arduino software for the display, this one github.com/SolderedElectronics/Inkplate-Arduino-library/tree/ip6ColorSleepFix and let me know if it works better.

    I just learned about subsumption for controlling a mobile robot. A video about using Object Oriented Programming to program a.n autonomous mobile robot would be interesting!
