    Someone leaked 0.1 recently. Even 0.4 feels like a completely different game to 0.1, which I don't believe even had controller support... or even a vehicle spawner, the only way I could find to spawn new vehicles was through the world editor. Its insane to think how far this game has come.

    I actually remember watching so many youtubers play this version, or something close to this version back in the day, I was so impressed by it back then and was disappointed when I discovered that my mom's old pc couldn't run it at all. Old gridmap is so nostalgic to look at too, I kinda miss it

    • @X-Caliber02
      @X-Caliber02 Год назад +9

      I don't remember what version it was, but I do know for a fact it was an even earlier version than the one MuYe is playing in the video (Think old enough to have to little white pop-up box with a dropdown menu for vehicle selector, this is 100% a 2013 or 2014 version), and I loved the BeamNG concept and YBR (and even JackSepticEye), I brute forced my gameplay... Looking back, I'm glad I suffered the 3FPS on LOWEST graphic settings. I've just turned 21, and it's amazing to look back on those 9-10 years and realise I've grown up alongside BeamNG this whole time, life has changed so much, and yet BeamNG is still there, and better than ever... I can finally play at 120FPS on the Highest Graphics.
      Anyway, that's just my personal monologue for my appreciation of this game and the Devs. If I could only play one game ever, I will always choose BeamNG

    As soon as PBR came to the game, the devs made the insane choice to downgrade the "tex size" (basically crispness) of the shadows, which is a stupid thing to do considering the resolution stayed the same, meaning they weren't even saving performance doing it. This is why 0.4 looks better in some cases, not to mention that the skyboxes were way more saturated, causing that nice ambient blue in the shadows. Also the lighting engine itself was different I believe, not very noticable in 0.4, but 0.3 looks completely different with a lot more specular reflections than the current version. Devs, please get your poop together, I've never before seen such an obvious downgrade graphically in any other game.

    • @walkcycle5436
      @walkcycle5436 Год назад +33

      facts i knew that the shadows looked super bad in the new version. I really hope they add back these old features or atleast remake these, it would help the graphics alot even if the game lags more (which can be solved by turning them on and off depending on graphics settings)

    • @SourDisc
      @SourDisc Год назад +49

      @@walkcycle5436 the thing is, it wouldnt even lag more. the resolution stayed the same, they just changed the amount that is displayed, effectively. so the game runs just about the same (although with massive optimizations) but with PS2 shadows like bruh

      You can edit the shadowresolution in the editor, when you press F11 ingame.. than search on the left for sunsky, go to the right and scroll down to the resolution.. its at 1024 by default and the maximum is 2048.. to sharpen them even more, scroll down to 'logweight' and set it to 0.993.. in my opinion the highest value which looks the best😁
      Edit: doesnt affect the performance too much.. for me like 0-5 fps drop.

      To be rather pedantic, the original author of ROR and main developer for a time was Pierre-Michel Ricordel, who to my knowledge has never had a hand in BeamNG at any point. The future head of BeamNG, Thomas Fischer, came later and was part of the ROR team for a while, and it was he along with some other ROR contributors around 2011 that gathered to form a new team and start development on a new (proprietary) product.

I played that demo for a very long time just having fun with the soft body physics, and it was 10x more fun because I was in middle school and I enjoyed video games several times more than today. The only thing was that I had to turn the graphics way down and have the draw distance to only like 10 meters away otherwise I would just be playing a slide show on my dad's old laptop.

    as a person who hasn't seen this game in ages this was a wild ride
    "what's wrong with the menu"
    "what other modes are there"
    "why are you surprised it just loaded"
    "what's weird about the red line"
    "what do you mean they made a new grid map"
    "what's wrong with it moving"

    Lots of nostalgia for playing this game in late 2013/early 2014 on dry rock island driving the truck at 5 fps on lowest settings on a secondhand office computer. One of the best uses of like seven dollars I’ve ever had.

    the race tracks in industrial site line up with the grassless spots in port so i think in 0.4 it was one map but they split it because it was too much for the computers at the time and since this was a tech demo they wanted it to run as smooth as possible

    12:32 The reason it runs bad with a 4090, and not then, is because devs have to update their games whenever a new graphics encoding system comes out, and it just so happens that the new beamng incorporates that.
