Beautiful looking 316. Definitely a keeper. That thing is barely even broken in. Although, like someone said below, I am surprised that the firewall foam isn't intact for having such low hours. All those years of sitting must have taken a toll on the foam. The firewall foam on these tractors originally only covered the top half of the firewall. My first 316 had 1100 hours when I bought it and the original foam was still there, but was starting to fall apart.
Thanks Michael. This Florida humidity doesn't play well with soft material such as foam. The firewall was there, albeit in chunks at the bottom of the engine shroud and belly pan haha
I neighbor passed away recently he gave me is 332 original from the 90's with all attachments. The diesel runs good 997 hours needs radiators that i just purchased. I'm a newbie thanks for your video.
@@michaelbenoit248 I sold our JD 332 in October. Okienny on eBay lie said radiator was recorded and pressure tested. That's why it was leaking so I returned it lost $100 bucks. I restored it for $2,500 some Bondo fix the hood & painted tractor. I just wanted to get my money back. Never again restore any old tractor.
Holly crap this thing is super crisp & new! With such low hrs Deere might want to put that in a museum, that thing is almost to nice to use. My 212 used to be my beater, until I made it nice, then got a 67 110 & it’s almost restored. The previous owner to the guy I got mine from had the engine rebuilt, & the tractor was basically 1/2 restored then I finished it. It needs a belt & that’s it. The paint on that thing is as good as your going to get w the new rattle can paint you can get now. So for the battery tray if you get rid of that battery handle it helps keep it down, then put some paper towels under the battery & the acid corrosion goes away almost 100%.
Thanks for the info! I actually bought a 318 wiring harness and lamp housings, brand new the other day. From what I can tell, should be plug and play as apparently the 316 has the wiring for them under the fender.
It sure doesn't. I found the remnants at the bottom of the engine, in the shroud and on the belly pan. It looks like it completely fell apart in the time it was sitting.
I agree my neighbor gave me a 1988 JD 332 original owner had some hood damage and the radiator was shot. I was out like over $1800 Recore radiator Bondo paint new belts & Wheels. I couldn't wait to get rid of it !
Really good overview of the 316, thanks for sharing!

You should be running some DCA coolant additives to prevent cavitation issues. Cavitation can destroy an engine faster than bad oil changes.

Dang, what a find!
Thanks for the interesting video. I like the 318 over this because of PS. Still a great machine.
I just bought a 78 with 354 hours on it, good looking tractor !!
Awesome, what a find!
Wow!
Great find take good care of it
Holly shit that tractor is a steal! I paid. $250 for my 212 & I’ve got $800 in it now after the work I’ve done to it for repairs.
Sweet i got a 317 in florida too
I got my 316 last year and it had 225 hours on it and it just topped 250
Awesome find congrats
I bought my 316 in 1986 and it didn’t come with an hour meter. I added one later to keep track of oil changes.
yes the 83 318 had lit tail lights. I own a 83 318.
Pretty cool find. Did you keep this machine or the tiller? I have an older 318 that I would love the tiller for! Located in Fl as well. Thanks!
Yes sir I did, nearly operational. I'll be uploading the next video quite soon
What a beautiful machine!
How much is a hydraulic tiller like that, in excellent condition worth?
The 316 was an economy version and did not come with lighted rear lights, the 316 had reflectors.

@@vaderslostson3053 can you send me a photo of the attachment page from your manual? I have a John Deere 318 1984, how did the restore go??
I noticed by the engine that it does not have any foam firewall
It sure doesn't. I found the remnants at the bottom of the engine, in the shroud and on the belly pan. It looks like it completely fell apart in the time it was sitting.
Hey! I know this video is a year old, but just so you know, this is actually a 1989 not an 88. Have a good one.
Can you send me a photo of the attachment page you have.. I have a John deere318 1984 LOVE IT

How much did you pay for it?
I get it, you got a good deal because it wasn't her tractor to sell, so what did she care gave you a good deal 'cause it wasn't hers nice!
VadersLostSon Can You Please Do A Video of It Mowing?
Unfortunately that will be quite some time, as the mower deck restoration will be one of the last things I do. Thanks for your interest!
Those are money Pitts when they age...lots of maintenance needed
True but once they’re almost new I think he’s good for a while.

I have a 316 with the Kohler engine nowhere near as nice as that one. I live in the Big Bend area of Florida
Ripped off poor old lady you should be proud
Oh maybe "low hour meter" barn find...
I'm fairly certain it's never been restored. I would be surprised if they randomly replaced the hour meter. Thanks for your interest.
That's definitely the original hour meter.
Does the hour meter work?
