Another ultra light rig is never a bad thing. This may be the best GX2 combo reel I've seen yet. Time will tell. Still impressed by that Zebco 33. For what it is, it's a nice little caster.
I considered it, but wanted to keep the original specs as similar as possible. Was kinda curious about those 33's, as they have quite a good rep for what they are. From what I was able to tell, that rep is earned.
@Mr4twitch in this case, I think that using micro baits was the cause. Though it'll never go as far as a longer rod, I think that this current combo could get a good deal of distance with a larger crank bait, or heavier jig. I am confident that the rod itself could handle a heavier fish with ease. It's just too solid, and the leveraging works to its advantage. A bigger fish would be a hell of a fight, due to that same leveraging working against you, but it would hold. I'm less confident in the drag of a 33 holding something like a larger channel cat, carp, or musky. I mean, yeah, you'll eventually wear out the fish if it doesn't shake the hook. This rig is mostly ideal for trout, panfish, and up to medium sized bass though. Good little creek fisher if you're hiking, and ability to carry has to be taken into consideration.
If we don't get any good ice this year again, that little gx2 will work just fine poking a few trout etc. 🤙

Happy new year Jake wishing you a great new year Donnie...
Should have gotten a spincast

@@jakelovesfishing they make a spincast the same size as the proficiency
I have several in the size. The Pflueger President XT's being my favorite. Maybe I'll do a rod/reel swap.
@@jakelovesfishing I hate underspinning on casting rods
