Late Summer Fishing with Friends

It's been an extremely hot summer, and it's made fishing difficult in the northeast, but that's not going to stop us from catching fish! If you like the tunes on the show, check out my album on Bandcamp.com. jakewerkmeister.bandcamp.com/album/e-pluribus-unum

I spent a few weeks testing out a very interesting piece of Japanese manufacturing. Complete with an electrical generator and micro computer. Is the reel worth the extra cash? If you like the tunes on the show, check out my album on Bandcamp.com. jakewerkmeister.bandcamp.com/album/e-pluribus-unum

So, I listened to a comment and it sounded like a great idea. It ended up being a blast with @shivolv. Vince will be posting a behind the scenes video on his channel. Going out to catch some catfish today. As I was prepping today's guest fisherman, we both stumbled upon this little gem from a few years ago. Yeah, it's pretty much like this. If you like the tunes on the show, check out my album on Bandcamp.com. jakewerkmeister.bandcamp.com/album/e-pluribus-unum

In the middle of a miserable heatwave, Ron and I go bass fishing at Dutch Fork before Vince and I meet up looking for catfish and carp in the Allegheny River. Northern Lights Dahntahn!

It's very rare to have the Northern Lights come on down into South Western Pennsylvania. It's even more rare to have that occurrence happen on a cloudless night. If you like the tunes on the show, check out my album on Bandcamp.com. jakewerkmeister.bandcamp.com/album/e-pluribus-unum

Ron and I take a trip down into an appropriately named city in West Virginia on the hottest day of the year so far! Can we find one of those state record breaking Musky? Special shout out to @thespillwayhunter8145 who's been crushing those musky all month! Major Improvement at Cross Creek

The weather has been windy and rainy all month, and a tornado touched down less than a mile from my house. Something strange is going on. During all of the insanity, I did manage to get out to Cross Creek Lake, and I was greeted by a fantastic surprise! Why didn't you get/ put the spincast micro 33 or even micro profishiency sniper spincast on that rod.not trying to be mean but thats stupid.put the spincast reel on & it will cast asome. Just saying.L O L.
Been catching lots of those at Tionesta
Tis the season!
YAY homecoming LOL - kinda sucks.
I was laughing when I got back. If I didn't see it, I wouldn't have believed it.
Hey, it's a very nice video. I have a question about the Dutch Fork Lake. Do you think it's a good place for family fishing? Are there for example shelters and restrooms around? thanks.
They have a porta John, but no shelters or tables. The area was basically abandoned for years. So there are a ton of good fish in there that were left to their own devices. It's a nice lake, but dont expect state park level accommodations.
@@jakelovesfishing Gotcha! Thanks a lot for your reply!
I joined the dock runner group. 🤙 That outflow for Musky kinda reminds me of another place sorta in that general direction known for Musky. I won't blurt it out here but you probably know where I mean. ?
I can think of several places. Frank got us hip to another spot in the area. Huge, technically closed. I'll probably get up there with a kayak in the spring.
DAMN - nice muskie - still have never caught one...hate you now.
Need more Lego content...just sayin'
Oh, brace yourself for that.
I'm RUclips famous ! ! !
"This is my subtle rod" sounded kinda creepy - just sayin'...LOL
😆
Good video!!
Oh the prophecy….. careful where you step in the dark. You predicted it
Great video... are you a member of the "Friends of Carnegie Lake" page? We are trying to keep improving the lake with PFBC and City of Pittsburgh. I am a member of via Anglers Fishing Club of Pittsburgh
I was not, but am now!
i got a Shakespear alpha its a 40usd combo it works great i now have a slx dc a alijoz 400 a kastking forgot and a couple others and i still love my alpha ive been using a bait caster for 3 months and its rare to get a backlash
also just get a rod with a palming grip if you dont like the trigger
I still have a huge Alpha reel on a 7ft Rhino Rod. Still a great combo. Both from the early 90's. I'm going to have to pull that out again sometime. That sucker can cast a mile.
Grrrrr.....knew you were gonna say it was worth it, now I gotta save for one damn enabler.
You won't regret it! 🤣 Though, tbh, that Kast King more than keeps up with it. Doesn't run anywhere as smooth, but still isn't bad. Dirt cheap, too. The fact that I can actually compare the two speaks volumes.
@@jakelovesfishing My 2 newest Lew's are phenomenal, And the KastKing Sharky III and Spartacus II Plus are damn fine as well. KastKing is an underrated company and my go-to for most reels and rods.
@Shreffzilla it's very likely that the same factory making Kast King is also manufacturing for Lews and Abu Garcia. Not proof that it's so, mind you, but it isn't uncommon for such things to happen in modern manufacturing.
@@jakelovesfishing Just like TV's and stereos or any electronics.
Furniture industry insight. Just remember that all memory foam comes from one refinery in Texas. Now read ad print, and just laugh.
Is it better than the Corrado DC
Haven't used one to compare, but this is the last generation Curado.
Where's the bass at??
Good question. A few people were targeting them, and I was throwing a lure around for a good while. None to be seen.
There’s at least one large mouth in there! Tried it out with my old lady and she caught quite a large one off a yellow rooster tail
There used to be a ton, but the spot has always been good for just shutting off on certain days.
What’s your cat fish rod set up there?
In this case? Stock Ugly Stick 6'6" spinning combos. They can pull in just about anything with 20lb braid. I've put that theory to the test by hooking into several large tree trunks on the rivers. If you manage to break those rods, you were actively trying. They're also light enough to throw lures around all afternoon.
Just got mine what do u recommend line wise?
With any new baitcaster, I suggest 10lb mono. That way, you can experiment with settings without fear of getting a bird's nest that you can't get out of. That's also my preferred musky line, so if it's good enough for that, it's good enough for most anything else.
I fish there all the time, great spot. The cats love raw shrimp.
What should I use brake wise for braid
Setting 2 or 4. From personal experience, don't run anything lighter than 30 pound test on a baitcaster. You still have a chance of pulling out of a bird's nest at that weight. Anything lighter, and you're cutting. If you're cutting on this spool, you're messing with the computer. I'm going to have a full review of this combo up probably by next week. So keep posted, I'll go over everything you need to know in depth.
I've had mine for a couple of years and use it for fishing. I made a gearbox for behind the seat with rod holders and it's GREAT.
That's a good idea!
That hill is no joke, bro! What makes it worse is all the shit you hike down with you that you have to carry back up. Anyway, that pool down to your left has produced some nice smallies and very decent blue gill. Some walleye from where you were fishing, too.
Next time I head to Loyalhanna, I'll be going for cats and carp up by the dam. I chose life. 😆
Uh you brought that up but okay 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Turtles Turtles Turtles Turtles
The random echos 😂 can’t wait to finish up editing my video.
Not to mention the random turtles.
shimanoは最高🎉
Some may not realize that the lake used to cover clear to the other side of where the pool is now..
The entire history of that lake is interesting to me. I hope that I covered all of the bases during that intro. By far, though, the best place in the city to fish for those starting out, and those testing out new equipment. The place just has character.
My first shout-out on the channel! Lol That place is so cool. I'd be there all the time. 😬
Second. I remember shouting out the channel when you were trout fishing in Keystone last fall.
@@jakelovesfishing dam you're right. 🤙 awesome
Take that man to the store and get him a Gx2 spinning rod immediately. Lol That makes me twitch seeing that setup. 😂
Don't worry. We did a follow up. He bought a baitcaster and a spinning rod. Still editing the video. Usually I'd have it up by today, but with the news the past few days, I decided not to let a good episode be buried by the algorithm.
@jakelovesfishing I was a couple weeks late on this video. It got past me. 🤙 Hoping within the next couple weeks to make a trip up to Kittanning to do some catfishing, it probably would be a saturday evening.
🤦♂️ Next gig free Saturday for me will be August 24th.
@@jakelovesfishing Knowing myself that's probably the soonest I'll get there. Lol
Really enjoyed your kayak fishing. Relaxing and tranquil with a touch of comedy makes for a good watch 😎👍🏾
I'll be taking her back out there. Local weather has been hairy for the past few months. Between thunderstorms and extreme heat, I'm not using this as much as I'd like.
Yep - but 5 AM sucks no matter how much sleep you get.
I promise that I don't make a habit of trying to verify that information.
We get those big planes doing touch-and-go trips a lot, them practice at the Erie Airport. The fly from Buffalo because the Erie has very little air traffic.
Coincidently, Ron and I ran into a Marine a few days later. Apparently, they use this area of the state for low flight excersizes. First, I've seen it in the area, but it's not like I'm out there every day. It was pretty cool to witness in person though.
So excited just cant hide it!
FISHY FISHY FISHY
Sllllooooowwww mooootttiiioooonnnn
I suggest just bitin the bullet and payin the extra 3 or so dallors n gettin the rebels they have fantastic action and they look much more real
I'll pick a few up.
Hey I know that drone footage! 😎
"SPOILERS!"
Dig the tunes - a belly dancer woulda made it superawesomecool....pro tip for next one. :)
The thumbnail would generate millions of clicks. Yes, I've thought about that. 😆 Funny story, that was the first song I wrote on the album. It was written due to me somehow getting all of these Iranian gigs for weddings and clubs in 2019. Left an impression. 😆 If you look up the translation for the track title "Raqisat Allayl," it makes even more sense.
@@jakelovesfishing Will do - damn I'd loved to see some videos from those weddings.
Absolutely. I've even left comments on here about using nylon rope to catch gar. No problem in seven devil swamp
Aggressive fish, but hard to catch via traditional means. The ease of use, retrieval, and extraction is a really good deal at the price point too.
@@jakelovesfishing we made our own with wire and some nylon rope. Needlenose gar can be fun but we also made them about 18" - 24" for alligator gar.
😂😂 Thanks man!! 🙏🙏 Great video!!
Love tyhat spot bro - I'm gonna have to get down there.
It's beautiful! Just wish the weather cooperated.
Looks like a great spot for my RC Speed boat
Hopefully, more lakes, etc, will follow that lead and make fishing pier access like this. Especially in a decent spot of the lake.
In regards to Cross Creek, if there is a bad spot in the lake, I've yet to find it. It's a wonderful little hidden gem!
Nice to find other fisherman on here that fish cross creek. So far it’s been dead for me this summer, no weeds or cover @ the eastern side/kayak launch part of the lake. Also the weird 1,000°F month of June probably has them in WTF mode
Believe me, I get it. Been a weird year. I want to get out there with a kayak, but I also want to live. These storms though? Mmmmm...
Chinamazon 🤣
BUY NOW HAPPY SPECIAL!
One time up in Kittanning, I got on a school of eyes like that it was fun as hell. Nice catches!
There's a sweet spot closer to the dam that I can reach by kayak. Just not sure I trust the Tucktec on the river. It isn't the design of the thing that concerns me. It's the yahoos on motor boats.
@@jakelovesfishing yeah no doubt about that.
Great fishing, Jake! Looking foward to fish with you sometime.
15" minimum?
Certain counties. We're also not allowed to keep down here until May 4.
If I put my finger over the logo, I can ignore the red.
The logo and the surrounding blue are most certainly adding to the effect. Pretty cool little optical illusion.
i love the bass talking back to you! haha nice work
Didn't end up being as crowded as they thought but Presque Isle was still pretty crowded. GOOSE FTW ! ! !
After seeing that stretch of 79, I assumed it was going to be like that for the rest of the trip. That little delay already wrecked any possibility of me filming it too. Oh well.
Sounds GREAT Jake!!!
Thank you!
