I love Ron Carroll and have heard him spin at different Venues and Bang Out each one. Thank you Maurice for calling him out a bit on some of his work but you can see it’s just his sincere Love For House. I hope you guys do work together and you can help him heal any old friendships that need repairing. Ron is so humble and just loves the music. I’ve been to Storyville several times and the food is amazing.

Ron Carroll didn’t know he was going to a house music intervention until the cameras started rolling…
As a former broadcaster and interviewer THIS INTERVIEW is why everything house music and more is needed. Maurice Joshua is beyond respected globally and especially in Chicago. As we saw in this interview he put Ron on in certain situations and it’s dope that he could sit through his big brother’s intervention respectfully. I gotta admit I have not laughed at an episode as much as I did with this one (unintentional funniness/Ron just shrugging off questions about taking songs)
That said keep doing what you’re doing this interview was totally unexpected but needed for the culture. And it makes me ask the question, why is it only stealing when the artists don’t own any of the original works? Why isn’t it a remake or homage?

Ron - I’ve witnessed you break a LOT of NEW music. Hadn’t seen someone break that much new music SINCE Andre Hatchett. Kudos.

I remember doing Chicago house covers back in the 90s. One was Chip E - Like This. I copied the 909 drums note for note using a TR-707 and a Novation Drumstation. I played it on a friends hi-fi stereo and it was dull. I copied the beat from No Way Back or IMNXTC and used a BBC Maximizer and EQ from a broken Trident VFM console to make the closed high-hats from a TR-707 sound almost 808. I tried to get that 80s reverb snare sound using a console EQ and an Alesia Nanonveb but it sounded too thin and recorded to a metal oxide tape for extra sheen. The biggest success was Hello XTC, a friend wrote the lyrics and programmed the 303 bassline that was a copy of No Way Back, it was like the older computer voices from a Max Quadra computer. We couldn’t afford a TR-808 so it was analog drum module gear triggered by a TR-707 like a Tamma Techstar and MPC Electronic Drums. A person with a label heard it and wanted to release it but it was never released and all the recordings lost because it was recorded on cassette. I believe it’s legal to release cover songs. It used to happen all the time, especially old instrumentals. I always wanted to make original songs which I do today but if you’re a DJ people do react to hits, even stupid samples being triggered, a dum build up. It’s different then making original underground tracks. I can understand Ron’s viewpoint.

6:09. So imagine if we had the foresight to make videos with the artists dressing like how we dressed, dancing how we danced. That was the only component missing in the nationality of Chicago House. Great interview, again.

I love this interview because I'm new to Ron Carroll. I thought he was just a singer. This interview felt different when he talked about his introduction to House, his dj battle and being a Preachers Kid.
I love how Ron has a humble and a mischievous spirit. He's knowingly paying back some artists for not feeling accepted.
I appreciate how he broke down the music industry, EDM and Beyonce's statement.

I have a different perspective on what house music should be from an outsiders observation.
I think house is modern day jazz And the best form of flattery and the best way to keep the music relevant is to play the classics as much as you can, reimagine it, reinterpret it and just keep pushing it so it lives forever, overall I think the profit Of old records and people trying to hold on to the past will be the reason this great music is forgotten. For instance if You remake a Gershwin song, you do it and put it out there and the publishing takes care of itself but you’re not going to go ask him if it’s ok , the publishing is what it is ! The biggest problem is not an artist like Ron Carol re-doing a classic it’s the fact that most of the pioneers of house music were screwed out of their publishing kinda like Ron got screwed out of Lucky star, so basically the big boys still have the real talent fighting over scraps, I’m not saying that in the current situation there couldnt be conversations but ultimately the people that’s stole you’re publishing are the true thrives in the temple
