There was a simplicity to the older ones that made them more appealing, imo. But it's the same person underneath the anime avatar, so it doesn't bother me.
I absolutely do not like Tomo's redesign, it's somehow too busy and cluttered but also looks underdrawn. Other than the weird hand they struck gold with the first rig. At least small Pika looks nice even if the style and 3/4 angle is off brand

One description I read a good while back described it as when your ice (slang for jewelry) is melting from your hot bars (rap), hence it starts to "drip". That much makes sense to me as far as hip hop metaphors go, but I don't know how it came to be associated with clothes :v
