Wow thank you for your nice words! I am the flute player in the video ;-) I use two low whistles in different keys here, so that's why one of them is under my arm. Also thank you for noticing the communication between the ladies and me: it's so important for an instrumentalist to be included in the performance as much as singers, and in Ayreon it really feels that everyone is just as important as everyone else, technicians and all included!
Hi Jeroen, lovely to hear from you! It's a pleasure to hear your wonderful playing and yes, it's great to see a group where everyone is equal! I hope to hear more from you in the future, best wishes, Claire
Anyone that wants an introduction to Ayreon needs the watch the awesome "The day that the world breaks down". Jeroen only has a few moments in the intro, but the video explains a lot about the Ayreon projects AND it is an awesome piece of music.
Ayreon is NOT a band ! It is a project ! Arjen (the composer) invites the best singers from all over the world. Great music ! You have to dig deeper in Ayreon it is wonderful

Nice reaction! I totally agree on the communication and general fun everyone is having on stage. And your guess that this concert would be interesting is correct. Jeroen is featured on almost every track more or less prominentely. Throughout the concert he plays Flute, Low Whistle, Tin Whistle and Didgeridoo. This concert was a Best-Of show and the first official Ayreon concert in 22 years. It gives a good overview of Arjen's work with tracks from many different albums. Mostly Ayreon and a few Star One songs (two, I think). Here is a link to a playlist for the whole show: ruclips.net/p/PLJGn3wi7b7b606GfoKAdOgm6rtX9OliRc&si=jT8b4RYokWGFPS-N The whole band joins from Abby of Synn onwards, but the first thwo songs are absolutely worth watching. Have fun exploring the Ayreon rabbit hole!
First see the video: the day that the world brakes down by Ayreon. Then look at the two live concerts: Ayreon Universe live The electric castle live and other tales. Ayreon is one (but the main) of several projects by Arjen Lucassen and not a band. All are worthwhile to listen to. Star One. Guilt machine. Stream of passion.
Great reaction, thank you. I am a fan of Ayreon and love this concert in particular. Arjen brings together such a wealth of talent and the collaboration level is inspiring. Everyone seems to be having a great time performing and no-one is trying to out-do the others. In other tracks in the concert, Jeroen does play the flute and that might be what he is holding under his arm in this track; though not being an expert I'm not sure.
Nice reaction, Claire. In the story of The Electric Castle Anneke van Giersbergen (the blonde in the middle) plays the role of the Egyptian. If I am not mistaken it's only her singing Valley of the Queens on the album. It was set up for three singers for the Ayreon Universe concert. Saw Ayreon live in September including Jeroen and it was amazing. Every musician gets a moment to shine and even the big names will step back and let them have the stage. Please do more Ayreon.
Ayreon fans love the musicians just as much as the singers in the project! At the recent live concert, we were all hoping for a chance to see them up close too. I was lucky enough to be allowed to talk to and get autographs from Jeroen (this flutist) and the cellist as well as several singers! Lovely people in addition to fantastic musicians
That's amazing! It's always great when you get to meet your favorite musicians in person. Sounds like you had an incredible experience at the live concert! Wishing you a most Flutifull day! 😄🙏
I really enjoyed your reaction of this beautiful song! I liked most you mentioned the workers behind the musicians (I once was a stage crew member of a small dutch festival and know how hard the work could be). This song introduced me to the world of Ayreon and it still blows my mind.
Ray Thomas who played flute for The Moody Blues was my intro to the beauty of that instrument and Ray himself. Unfortunately he passed before the band was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, but his contribution will never be forgotten.
And what a fine introduction to the flute that was! I'm sure you'll enjoy my Moody blues reaction if you've not already seen it: ruclips.net/video/KWjXNCbb2Xo/видео.htmlsi=tcTgbmNCjMdR1tqs. Wishing you a flutifull day! 😄🙏
Singers are: Floor Jansen (Nightwish) Anneke van Giersbergen (the mother of Dutch Metal) and Marcela Bovio (MaYaN, watch her home version of Nightwishes “Getsemane”)
Lovely reaction! Others have mentioned the singers, all of whom are amazing. Being asked to sing or play on an Ayreon project is a huge honor that most musicians would love to have. I am a huge fan of Marcela Bovio, the wine colored haired lady on the right. She is an amazing singer second only to Floor in her power and versatility. Definitely woth checking out some of her solos stuff as well as bands she has been in like Stream of Passion, Mayan, Vuur and Dark Horse White Horse. Highly recommend Ayreon's Amazing Flight from the Electric Castle and Other Tales Live concert which has a big flute solo by Thijs van Leer of Focus plus it is just a great groovy song. Arjen makes a rare appearance as the hippie and he is perfect. Song is from the same album as Valley of the Queens but earlier in the timeline.
Check Ayreon - The Castle Hall... and there are more acts with the flute ! If you have time see AYREON : The Day That The World Breaks Down , this is just 13 min :)
Thank you for reviewing. Always lovely seeing a fellow Brit discovering the genius of Arjen and the Ayreon project. If you would like to experience another flutist, may I humbly suggest Amazing Flight from Enter the Electric Castle Live. The song revolves around two of the characters, the hippie (played by Arjen himself) and the barbarian (played by John JayCee Cuijpers). The flutist on the song is Thijs van Leer (of Focus!). Hope to see more Ayreon reviews.
Thanks! Knew this on, but liked your comments! Indeed the communication between the musicians is incredible. So wonderful to see. I have seen both Floor and Anneke live and know a little about them. The planet is really a better place with the two of them around! Strange flute-tip: Focus HocusPocus Live 1973 Thijs van Leer.
Thanks, really glad you enjoyed it. And I love Hocus Pocus - I have the moving waves vinyl! And I've covered a track by focus which you can enjoy here: ruclips.net/video/_Xp2pzqP9X0/видео.htmlsi=x5Pi25q4cS_OeJlE Wishing you a most Flutifull day! 😄🙏
Glad you enjoyed that one -- I did like the trading of the lead (and the communication) between the low whistle (ah, so that is what that instrument is) and the vocals.
Hi Claire, another amazing singer who also appears on many Ayreon albums, is Simone Simons, she is the lead singer with the Dutch Symphonic Metal band EPICA, she is amazing, the band are amazing, check them out, here is a song from a show earlier this year in Amsterdam, I think you will be impressed 🙃 EPICA - Unleashed (Live At The AFAS Live)
"Just so beautiful" (Claire Holdich}. "And the man hit himself in the head, and said, 'Why does this happen to me?" (from 'The Accident'- John Prine). "I'll get over this" (Sir Edmund Hillary); "There's a wolverine in the garden! " (I said that). Hello then, to all those who find themselves in Hull ;-)
It's 1 eeee'd Jeffry! Well, if there's a wolverine in your garden, I hope it finds the beauty in the video too! Just be careful not to hit yourself in the head like John. 😉
Well, you´re a Nice person, so just give you a chance to listening your opinion, as a Musicist, about many of the Best Metal Bands and Singers from EUROPE. Greetings from Brazil.

The singer on the left is Floor Jansen, the singer of Nightwish, the Symphonic Metal band, which you reacted to several times.
Yes I realised that but was so mesmerised by the music that I didn’t mention it! Thanks for watching 😃🙏

I concur
Definitely
The minus of this song it is way to short 😢 , Floor Anneke and Marcela are such joy to listen together with this great band

I've seen Arjen Lucassen in a concert with the Dutch heavy metal band Vengeance, more than 30 years ago. Arjen is a magicus!
Great reaction, thank you. I am a fan of Ayreon and love this concert in particular. Arjen brings together such a wealth of talent and the collaboration level is inspiring. Everyone seems to be having a great time performing and no-one is trying to out-do the others. The Ayreonaut mentality. Both on stage and in the croud.

Glad you enjoyed that one -- I did like the trading of the lead (and the communication) between the low whistle (ah, so that is what that instrument is) and the vocals.
Thank Mark, it was a great suggestion and I hope to react to more Ayreon soon! Wishing you a most Flutifull Day! 😄🙏
