So true... i dunno how many joysticks were destroyed by this game lollll... crazy awesome game xD. I think the 1500 meters was the worst and most painful to do lolll
I hardly ever played the 400m and the 1500m, so one good microswitch joystick carried me through several years playing this game. With records close to the technical maximum.
The other thing that's really impressive is that if you put in a good effort, the results are actually pretty reasonably close to a good olympic-level result in each event.
I remember playing it so much as a kid. I did get gold and took a photo of the TV to send into Activision but never did. Reading about the broken joysticks, I thought I was the only one that would rip the stick out, literally broken off. Usually in frustration. I remember buying an Epyx joystick with micro switch controllers instead of the plastic crap from Atari.
the joystick killer :D
Yeah, used the ones from the Atari console, broke lots of them ;-)

There wasn't a joystick that this game couldn't break.
Yes. There was the TAC2 that had some resistance, but it was far from indestructible.
Hell no-one could play this game with modern gamepads, and modern joysticks are far too expensive to risk playing this game lolll

Suzo joysticks held up pretty nice. It had micro switches for the stick.

Wow! Absolutely amazing competition! It couldn't have been any closer. Well done both players!
The animations in this game are really satisfying for some reason.. i love how they're totally different for many of the events

Fosbury style high jump... but with straight run :-)

CX24 - Pro-Line Joystick is for Pros
This game is the shit!
Game developer's should play this all the time i think... Better games now!!!
I have supported player 2.
But in truth this game was the joystick killer and the arm killer heehheeh
Cheater---->no way you wiggled the joystick to get those speeds, but you applied hacking tool or a device to fire the cylinders of left and right.
