Just a tip about dealing with a nail in your tyre. Carry a few small fat screws (drywall screws are good) and once you've removed the nail, screw one in for a nice snug fit which will get you home.
And make a proper repair harder and less effective as the plug now has to be thicker due to the threads you shredded into the rubber. Just leave the nail in until you can fix it.
