Far beneath the majesty and splendour of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.
The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then. Now in its 35th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, after more than 11,000 performances.

I love the look on Raoul's face during this. He's like "What the heck is going on and why am I watching this?"
the face he makes when he realizes she likes it
I say he's the sexiest certifiable creeper I've ever lay my eyes on.
That eye roll that she does at 2:47. Emmy Rossum was a fantastic Christine, she is too underrated.
Me: "So, Gerard, What's next? "
Gerard Butler: "This is SPARTA!!!"
Still a better love story than Twilight.
i still can't believe she was like 17 or 18 when she did this! she did such a beautiful job
Who else thinks Raouls facial expressions are hilarious in this? xD
1:55 Raoul's like "Dude that's my girlfriend. Dude STAHP."
I always get goosebumps when Gerard starts singing at the beginning...
Only the Phantom of the Opera would create a whole opera as foreplay....
Emmy has such a beautiful voice, and Gerard just makes me melt!
I love how he just jumps out, out of nowhere behind her when he sings 'what raging fire shall flood the soul' :)
In love with the passion and deepest feeling of this piece. In general, "The Phantom of the Opera" broughts me to my most deepest feelings and pleasure of listening this opera, my ultimate favourite one. I adore Gerad Butler, and he's the BEST Phantom to me. But the glory belongs to its creator, Mr. Andrew Lloyd Webber! All my due respect.
And thank you for giving us the inspiration of the "music of the night" beyond "the point of no return!"
Is it wrong that I feel attracted to\this Eric/The Phantom? Even without the mask he looks handsome!
Gerard Butler's voice is pure lust, sex, and desire. If I was Christine, I would be like, "Yep, no second thoughts. I've decided. Let's go."
Everyone in the theatre: DER I wonder what happened to Piangi's voice?
Madame Giry does realise quite quickly - Raoul isn't that bright. :)
Gerry plays the phantom brilliantly. His voice is amazing
this melody is so painfully beautiful, it makes me cry every time. He wants her so badly, she just doesnt see it! ...Yet...
The most passionate, the most romantic and the most erotic lyrics ever written. This is also my favorite song from PotO.
'In your mind you've already succumbed to me,'
Why yes, yes I have. In great detail. *deep breathe*
so intoxicating........i find myself mouthing the words without even realizing it......
Why can't a man seduce me like this....(ya know and not kidnap me in the end)
I love raoul's face at 1:53
the end makes me cry. his voice is just so sad... maybe even more emotion then ramin, but I love him all the same!
This has got to be the best part of the entire movie!!! So much passion between them!!!
This scene is just so seductive and gorgeous and ahh I love it!!
Best foreplay EVER!!!
Gerard and Emme are AMAZING!!!
i swear gerard's voice as the phantom gives me chills everytime!!
I may be 15 but my heart lies with opera and theatre. Best movie in my memory:)
Raoul's face just made me laugh i mean goodness he looked so heartbroken
GREAT PERFOMANCE!
Funny how they sing this in a different key here than in the soundtrack.
At 1:54, Raoul's thinking, "Why can't I be that good...?"
ADMIT IT! Everyone here cried when Erik cried! ;'( TT.TT Love this song.
you're telling me they still thought he was piangi? on broadway...the phantom is supposed to be covered and sing with an italian accent here
she loved Eric terribly, even more than raoul, but after all the bad stuff he did, she could not. if he didnt take up the part of the bad guy, she would have gone with him.......
Gerard is one of my idols, and Phantom is my favorite character! Anyway, people you must admit: this is one of the most passionate & erotic songs ever written. And my favorite verse (I have read many books and poems) is still this one:
'Past the point of no return, the final threshold
The bridge is crossed, so stand and watch it burn
We've passed the point of no return'
They sing this beautifully together...!
"What sweet seduction lies before us" seriously just listen to the lyrics
a great movie and Gerard Butler make a great phantom
Hot Hot HOT!!!
"...In my mind I've already imagined our bodies entwining defenseless and silent..." ✭_✭
I love Raoul's suprised face in this!!!!
Omg the phantom can get it lol!
I am completely head overr heels over phantom
"In my mind I've already imagined our bodies entwining - defenseless and silent, now I am here with you, no second thoughts, I've decided."
It's about sex.
I love this song so much
i never noticed... THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
that long blink at 0:28 is exactly the same as in "music of the night" when she just succumbs to his voice in the lair. like in a trance
his voice
The Phantom is so sexy! Ugh, his part was well played. This is one of my favorite parts, including when he took her to his lair!
No one knows that that's phantom... haven't you seen the movie? He killed the performer that was supposed to play the part he's singing, and he's disguised as him. It's a play within a play (The Dan Yuan that Phantom wrote for them to play- not sure if that's how you spell it)
I've been a fan from this play since I was four years old, I first watched this movie (it was released when I was four years old) then the play on my country, then I traveled to New York to watch it on Broadway last year, and it was the most beautiful thing I've ever watched, I read the book and the Phantom Of Manhattan and I can play almost every song of it on piano. I'm 13 and I don't think this is bad at all...
"In my mind, I have already imagined, our bodies entwining..." Definitely about sex.
The amazing sentient (and confused) shoulder straps!
Christine: Cape woosh eh? How about some shoulder strap action..
I love this film Soooo much it's so haughtingly beautiful!
god I love this scene, it is beautiful kinda sexy and didn't lose artistic integerity
So much sexy cape swishing... in gonna faint!
I love her hair!
OHMYGOD THIS IS MY DREAM RIGHT HERE
Thank you darling! This has made my, life. Meet me at the mirror! ~OG
love how u clearly see a lot of his face in this scene and doesnt look demented to me...
When I hear his voice is one of the few times I feel alive
Raoul facial expressions are the best. :-)
I'm in love with this song
If I were in her position, I would never be able to resist Gerard, phantom or not.
Same thing but in reverse. Would totally go straight for Christine in that dress, but then see Phantom and snap back to gayness.
love this movie
Anyone else notice how the entire audience was so against the opera but then,.....BAM! They fall under the Phantoms charm despite the somewhat sexually suggested content...
I know I would have ;)
Yes, he sing like angel.
I know my speech disappeared into silence after hearing this.
This song put me in trance when Erik sang! WHY?!
oooh.....its soo intense
Nobody can escape his smoldering gaze...
I've been hooked on this movie for about 3 months now and right now i'm watching this scene after at least a month(>.< u dont kno how much I hate to admit that) and, wowo..you can almst see where Christine's Heart stopedd for a second. Erik built up an aray of nurturing feeling and bonded with her through the only means he thought possible.. and in the end, Jealousy took over, he was about to lose everything he ever dreamed of and cared for..
Words cannot describe how much I love this song. O.O
i am in love with the whole movie and im fascinated my the drama love and not to mention the passion whith each other i agree, she should have picked the phantom he would have given her a better life not to mention loved her more i bet she in the end she would regret marring her fiance and live her life in grief knowing she had a chance to have the phantom if you would rather the ohantom give this athumbs up please thank :)))))
awww raoul tearing up.
This is My favorite musical of all time
i love the phantom of the opera!
Pure passion....
the phantom will always be real to me he is my mentor
It amazes me how different this is from the musical...
I went as the Phantom and my girlfriend went as Christine for a Halloween party it was awsome
Dammit, don't let him start singing, now no one can stop him!
OMG...this man could sing to me on a daily basis.
How does NOONE realize it's him??
He only kills the ones who seperate him from his beloved Christine.
Madness? THIS IS OPERA
Yes, and he is singing it like a sir...
300 and Dacula 2000. A very strange range of films, but that just shows ths mans talent!
Take me know Phantom!!
i love this song so much
That's what I thought too. I think the audio was raised an octave higher to avoid problems with copyright infringement. His voice still gives me the chills though!
I CANNOT HANDLE THIS MUCH SEXY.
This is my favorite part
I Love this film :3
