2 brutally evil cards you have to add to Volrath: Faerie Artisans and Willbreaker. Faerie aritisans is hilarious because it's honestly not that big of a threat, but I've seen it take a lot of heat from my friends. People usually don't like their stuff being copied, especially their ETBs. But it's pure value. Assuming it doesn't get countered or killed the turn you play it, you have the potential to get three different tokens entering the field. If an opponent kills the faerie, now you just have a permanent token. Also, even though FA's rule box uses its name, legally, it means itself and not all FAs. So if Volrath is a copy, now you have two tokens tracked separately. Willbreaker is a card I've been honestly debating on taking it out because it's so mean. Definitely need to add protection and/or sac outlet, and it costing 5 cmc does clash with Volrath, but assuming you cast her after Volrath, you'll have one guaranteed steal thanks to Volrath's neg 1 targeting trigger. Volrath is honestly the most fun I've had in commander. He has made losing fun and winning transcendent. It is utterly atrocious that you don't have Biovisionary in this deck tech! Man is honestly my secret commander, and he fits the theme of Volrath so well. I imagine that Volrath has a secret cloning program that ensures he never truly dies ala Palpatine.
Volrath has always been my favorite deck and I have always insisted that I wouldn't update it...until I watched your video. Thanks for the great suggestions! I love it even more now ha!
Thanks for the upload! I don't see Tetzimoc, Primal Death here, it is really a great card in a deck with 1/1 creatures which cannot receive the -1/-1 counter from Volrath to start copying. It also allows to copy enemy 1/1 without killing them.
Volrath is one of my favorite commanders. His options are endless! One of the craziest interactions in recent times ive loved is the “backup” mechanic with spark double. Making volrath into some crazy creature and cloning it will keep the abomination around forever lol
One of my favorite commanders! When I built him I included a bunch of cards that he could abuse, cards that do thing in relation with how much power they have, cards that have evasion + attack triggers, cards that have evasion + combat damage triggers. Also, I focused a good bit on getting counters on creatures without killing them or buffing them. Cards like Tetzimoc, Bounty Hunter, Chevill, Termonation Facilitator are all good!
Definitely missed a step here we need a biomancers or Arwen effect first. He’s still going to be super solid in the deck it just takes a little more set up. Magic is hard 😅
Great idea to pick up an older commander and just slam all of the newer support into the deck! When i look up older commanders i often miss out on these new takes on them. Good job! And i am really happy with my somewhat adjustet niv mizzet supreme deck with experience counters ;) Got the budget down to 150€. But the whole idea stayed and it works really well.
All creatures that clone themselves on the upkeep don't work with volrath as there is no point in wich you could make him a copy of said creature before the trigger would go on the stack
It’s not impossible to use these cards. You’d have to make a clone of Volrath while he was copying one of these creatures. At the next upkeep, Volrath would go back to being himself, but the clone would stay the 7/5 creature who copies himself at upkeep. Still, a bit fiddly. You might be better off with a 3 mana clone spell.
Could someone explain how volrath copies scute swarms? Im building a volrath deck and hadnt considered this card. What counters are on the scute swarm that allow Volrath to copy it, and how dont the copies they make die to the legend rule?
Volrath becomes a copy of the creature, but keeps its ability and power/toughness. So in the case of Scute Swarm, it also copies the creature types, which does not contain legendary in this case.
A good thing to remember is that any 'copy of something' is basically the same card with everything that's printed on it, including mana values, (super)types and the name.
Thanks this is a pet deck of mine and i had not considered cards like scute swarm. I like this addition if not everything. good video mate and thanks for giving a under rep commander some light
Some additional strangeness ( i encourage you to go see michel celani's article on volrath as thats where i found this out): if you have a creature like beledros witherbloom that has an activated ability that is only usable once a turn, transforming volrath into the creature again counts as a different instance of the creature, allowing you to reuse those effects. Volrath is reeeaaal silly.
Oh wow that’s great! I was looking at the new Hardbristle Bandit as an include for my own brew as it can pay for Volrath’s ability once every turn if you target an opponent’s creature due to getting a Crime trigger, but now Bandit can double as a good method of getting multiple Volrath untaps by alternating between it and an opp’s copy target.
I don't think Toxrill synergizes with -1/-1 Counters since he puts Slime counters on creatures, so we won't create Snakes for example. But he will trigger the "dying with 0 toughness".
How would Volrath turned into Watchful Radstag trigger evolve? It would still be 7/5, and not many creatures would be bigger then that even in this deck.
Here’s the relevant rule 😁 704.5q If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it.
Can someone explain to me the process in which what is giving the +1/+1 counters, specifically 1:30 with toothy as he draws based off of +1/+1 counters
I think its using a scute swarm or volrath as a copy of master biomancer and having toothy enter with 7 +1/+1 counters, then making a clone of toothy which would also get the +1 counters (as long as you keep a 7/5 biomancer) and can sac either
Here’s the whatnot link everyone! Thabk you for all your support ❤ whatnot.com/invite/decktechsfordecks

I was just looking at this commander and got confused by the ruling, great timing.
🎉
Volrath, nice.. always was a very cool villain during Weatherlight stories. 🙏
He definitely caught me off guard! 😁
Volrath is one of my favorite commanders. His options are endless! One of the craziest interactions in recent times ive loved is the “backup” mechanic with spark double. Making volrath into some crazy creature and cloning it will keep the abomination around forever lol
He’s definitely a fun one!
One of my favorite commanders!

Why would a copy of Volrath turned into toothy draw seven? Toothy draws equal to the counters on it not equal to its power.
Definitely missed a step here we need a biomancers or Arwen effect first. He’s still going to be super solid in the deck it just takes a little more set up. Magic is hard 😅
I love Sultai anyway, and this looks fun; thanks!

Hey do you have the list?? Of the budget version?

Oh, interesting! Thanks
Volrath was the first deck I made. Can’t wait to see your take on it.
I hope you enjoy! 😁

I lime this deck alot

@@chillinon3263 oh that's a great include! Totally overlooked that prickly guy!

I love Heroes Bane in the Volrath deck, can quickly get out of hand :P
That definitely sounds fun!
I have Volrath deck. Are watching this it's back to store I goes 😂😂
Good ol Scute swarm
You’ll definitely need a calculator 🤣
How would Volrath turned into Watchful Radstag trigger evolve? It would still be 7/5, and not many creatures would be bigger then that even in this deck.
A Volrath deck full of infect and proliferate is insanely OP.
How do you get rid of glen elandras -1 counter? i don't think adding a +1 removes the -1, they just cancel each other out in value, no?
Here’s the relevant rule 😁
704.5q If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it.
@@decktechsfordecks oh damn thats awesome! thanks man!
Can someone explain to me the process in which what is giving the +1/+1 counters, specifically 1:30 with toothy as he draws based off of +1/+1 counters
Ya the scute swarm would be base 7/5 and if it died without counters it will draw no cards
I think its using a scute swarm or volrath as a copy of master biomancer and having toothy enter with 7 +1/+1 counters, then making a clone of toothy which would also get the +1 counters (as long as you keep a 7/5 biomancer) and can sac either

without meaning to be unsupportive but is that deck a monolith decK? Without the commander out it´s kind of dangerous?
The +1+1 counter strat makes it viable without the commander. The commander just makes the deck better 😁
I want to play fetches into 7/5 scute swarms
That’s what I’m saying!
Id say Radstag isnt actually good for the deck if youre intending it as a volrath target
Absolutely disgusting
