Friedrich Lengfeld was a German officer during World War 2 who gave his life to save a wounded American soldier.
In November 1944, Lengfeld was deployed as a company commander in the Hürtgen Forest. His unit was supposed to secure a minefield against the Americans. After fierce fighting, the German soldiers suddenly heard cries for help and screams of pain from the area in front of them. It was a wounded American soldier lying in the middle of no man's land between the two frontlines. Lengfeld ordered his soldiers not to fire on any approaching American medics so that they could evacuate the wounded soldier.
Since the G.I.'s cries for help continued for hours, Lengfeld ordered his own medics to form a squad to rescue the soldier. As usual, he took the lead and guided his men through the minefield. But just before they reached the wounded American, Lengfeld was suddenly knocked to the ground by a German anti-personnel mine and bled to death.
The American soldiers were so moved by Lengfeld’s actions that they built a monument honoring their former enemy.

Was not friendship it was not kindness it was the most basic of human ethics,,, the reason why Humanity has achieved what we have achieved the reason why with no Claws and crappy teeth and soft skin we are the world's top predator is because we function as a group, what we have here is two men being forced into a similar situation who have no ill-will directly against one another, he responded the way we are hardwired to respond.
Only a sociopath would be capable of listening to that and doing nothing, In Antiquity sociopaths were ousted from the group and so their probability of survival diminished remarkably, it is sad that we live in a society where sociopaths are rewarded and encouraged. It does not follow traditional human evolution and it is not how we got to where we are, my god there are Neanderthal remains of an elderly gentleman with multiple serious injuries that would have rendered him useless to the group and yet after all of these injuries he still lived many years which is evident in his bones, we are hardwired to take care of each other.

He’s a real commander and a soldier thank you
A man of true integrity and compassion
In ever more troubling times , we need more stories like this to restore our faith in Humanity . Let goodness overshadow evil , always .
Brutus, amen. Yet Earth herself is in need of triage. Let's hope humanity steps up to the plate.
And that includes communism!!.. in which my grandfather fought against!!..never forget!!

War ethics : Never fire on a wounded & armless personal.
Respect to him 🙏🏼
Such people never die , they become IMMORTAL.
His story will inspire generations to come. God bless his soul ❤️🙏😞
This statement is so true ❤

This is called soldier who respect and lay his life even for his enemy.
He saved a wounded enemy soldier because he was an officer and a gentleman.
These stories need to be preserved. Many become monsters in war, it's actually frighteningly easy, but it takes a tremendous effort to maintain your humanity.
Good Man, We could use more humanity like this in today’s day. 🧡🤠
We do have humanity like that in today’s age. You’re just ignoring it apparently.
@@safeysmith6720 Of course we do, but we could use more of it, just like he said.
He cared about any wounded soldier, even the enemy soldier.God bless you Sir for caring about a fellow human being.🙏❤
An act of kindness that echos through the test of time... R.I.P
The "REST" of time more accurately ✌🇨🇦🙏
Not all German soldiers in WW2 were Nazis.
Lieutenant Friedrich Lengfeld was a soldier of honor and demonstrated the highest level of humanity on the battlefield.
His story would make a great film and show the folly of war.
R.I.P., Sir.
(salute)
Or perhaps...not all National Socialists (Nazis) were bad people. They simply believed in their cause, and had their reasons for doing so.
They were all Nazis. National socialist party, that's all that word means.
What you mean to say, is not all Nazi soldiers were evil.
Great movie it would be!
I would stand in line for hours in the rain to see that movie!
Respect to this brave man for his act of kindness amidst the horrors of war.
Men like this will affirm your faith in humanity.
Humanity had zero to do with it, his beliefs, his code, is what lead this man to do what he did.
What about the men he killed before this?

Not all german soldiers were bad.An example of human respect and kindness.
But every amercian and russian soldier was !
Not all American soldiers were bad either, even though American police kept killing black voters, even 10 years after ww2. Ordinary Germans were not worse than Americans or russians, even though the Nazi leaders were..
@@spaSSkloppe Nah, just Russian and Japanese.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028 can you call japanese bad? They sacrificed themselves selflessly for their emperor
Ok kike 👍
That's the Honor that exists between Warriors. Total Respect.
