The shooting of pilots in parachutes I don’t believe was a widespread phenomenon in the European Theater but it did happen I know that much. An entire group was forbidden from shooting parachuting enemies and was the one Franz Stigler hailed from.

@@KristbjorgNymannSo Hitler and the Nazis are evil to you?
As much as war is a horrific horrible thing it has these small beautiful moments of humanity within all that conflict
A wonderful act during the horror of war! So nice they got to meet each other years later. Respect
When men have honour during combat, no matter which side they are on, they ultimately become brothers even if one triumphs over the other.
Wonderful. It certainly made me cry. God bless both of these men
I'm 57. Just saw Valkyrie for the 1st time last week. Have a new perspective about Germany since then. There were soooo many Germans that were not OK with what Hitler was doing. God bless these two men.
True but a dictator always needs the majority of people behind him to survive
@@silasmerzenichwrong. A dictator only needs a brutal and unscrupulous minority to control the peaceful majority.
@@silasmerzenichnot quite... He needs the few that he gives everything to, that few being elite, top of the chain, to keep him alive and well...
When you have that, they will do anything, and then some others will see that and wish to be elite... Like the SS, who would do anything for him...
The standard army would always be under watch, ensure no plotting or scheming to be had, and then the aspiring ones in that standard army also would be doing the same, hoping to bite a turncoat and get a bump up
The civilian population would be most likely to be against him, seeing that it would end up being very iffy on if he was actually doing good or not as a government, which once again, you can't voice opinion... To many protecting his law to say a thing without death, which only would cause more distaste...
So much grey in every government, but when the government won't even allow you to speak on problems, it becomes that much more foggy
Love the moments between old combatants… they shared an intense life altering moment and it stuck with them. It’s great to see them embrace like brothers. Plot twist they were cousins he had German ancestry and the germs pilot was his neighbour 16th century
Enjoy your beers gentlemen. Wonderful thing to see. Even in the darkest of times there is compassion and more importantly love.
This proves that citizens don't start wars, politicians do. Enemies typically aren't that different from each other.
Very true!
100%
They were never enemies just tools of lesser men with power.
Cool it with the anti-semitism.
Why do you say lesser you mean greater men because the men that have power are greater than those that don’t.

Beautiful and amazing that’s how good hearted people should be for one another
See you can be on separate sides and still like and respect each other. We all share a common bond. We are human. ❤
Wonderful story😊
Beautiful. They were just soldiers fighting on opposite sides. Amazing moment when they finally met to say they had nothing personal against each other. It cheered up my day ❤
So wholesome and such beautiful people. Both of them. ❤ God Bless you both
What some people don’t understand is a lot of those German soldiers were good people and knew it was wrong but they would’ve been killed if they refused to fight I’m glad to see that not everyone hates the poor man
Heard that before "I'm just following orders"
Same with a lot of Russians now... They don't want to fight
Nooooooo really? They were just following orders?
@@hostility3404do you think child soldiers in South America, Africa, and the Middle East are evil blood thirsty maniacs? Or are they just following orders for self preservation.

I LOVE stories like this! These brave men went to do a job but still had a heart!! I'm crying, what a beautiful story!

That's a great story , peace and loveto both of you guys
Neither of they wanted to be in the war, neither wanted to be carrying out actions because of a mad man.
You can see that when they met, humanity always shines through.
Honor amongst foes.
This when there’s a mutual respect between enemies
I constantly see Opposing Veterans greeting eachother as Brothers. Even though they were at war, the amount of respect and love given to one another is heartwarming.
War. Truly brings out the best yet also the worst in people. This is the nature of humanity
God bless humanity!
Such a great story. Humanity in the middle of battle is a rare thing.
If only humanity like this was still as common as it was back then different times different people
I think the point of the story was that it wasn't common.

Sadly I have to disagree with the American pilot on every German shooting down their enemies whilst on a parachute
It is just not true
Why would they shoot at men they will capture anyway ?
When a plane goes down the local police and military forces are already standing in the field where the pilot will land his parashute usually
Most Americans were shot down over German territory
The German airforce saw itself as the last knights of Germany
They acted very chivalrous toward their enemy pilots
They had the luck that their war was more of a game of skill than a war of hate and destruction
Shooting a man on a parachute could get you killed in some airforce squadrons as it invedibly would mean that they would also be shot at when they were shot down
And every pilot gets shot down eventually
Some Germans lost 3 planes a day
@@tavish4699"he said most of em"
He didn't say every single German 😅
Thanks for this nice video, seeing these folks like that together and friendly gives me hope for humanity. Amazing
The shooting of pilots in parachutes I don’t believe was a widespread phenomenon in the European Theater but it did happen I know that much. An entire group was forbidden from shooting parachuting enemies and was the one Franz Stigler hailed from.
It wasn't widespread in the early days, but as the war kept on it became more common that pilots and crew who bailed where shot at by enemy aircraft or ground troops.
This is the case for both sides.
@@patta8388 I know that it was more common on the Eastern Front and in the Pacific. I can only think of maybe an instance of it happening with the Western Allies late war.

Moments like this give a bit of hope for humanity
Luftwaffe People respected all Air Forces personal
Yes reminds me of the story of the luftwaffe pilot who escorted a b17 out of Germany because the plane was barley flying and most of the crew was dead
That would be Franz Stigler, who would not only go on the become one of the very first jet fighter pilots ever, but also survived the war and later met the pilot of the B17 he escorted over German airspace
These men love each other because they lived thru hell and hate...they are the reason we should all long for peace...
Incredible story. Hard not to tear up watching something so powerful
You rarely see two former soldiers who were enemies hold resentment. It really shows you why these wars actually happen, not the people, but the demons in power.
It isn't veterans who push for war. They know the horrors, they don't want their sons and daughters to know that kind of pain and terror.
@@Fenris560 its rich people sending young people to die. They use any excuse. It’s horrible
We fought the wrong enemy. -Patton

Patton said that because he supported the nazis and what they stood for himself.

@notafrog2040 yes back then. We have been lied to about what happened.
Just needed a change of leadership. Been bros ever since.
@notafrog2040 especially back then. we were naieve, we believed they were these comically evil cartoon villians and we fell for propaganda and fought our brothers.
