When our sunflower field does well (big heads, no deer) it is really hard to beat. A close second is a burned millet/wheat field. If I had limited equipment, and couldn't keep the deer out, I would 100% do burned millet field in all three fields. Plant the Wheat in the Fall, let it run to full maturity, seed out and dry out in the summer, then come back through and broadcast no-till spread BrownTop millet into it, come back and burn it all Mid-August. Dove Crack!
Thanks for all your dove farming vids over the years. I am 10+ years into planting my 4 acre field & last few years have been trending better thx to what I've learned from your vids. Last year was my best year & first year of no till & clearfields. No decent county drill here in Burke Co, NC, so I just acquired a Saya 505 NT drill & can't wait to put her to work. Keep up the great work!
This is awesome, so glad to hear! That's the reason I do it, to help other like minded folks. I'm truly convinced that if we all did just a little something, we could make a big difference in NC.
Awesome, can't wait to see what all you have going. I need to go back and look at last year's videos to see what all I need to do for the prep with the sunflowers.
Saw one of our big toms by himself last week. There was 4 of them running together all fall and winter. If the weather stays as warm as it has been they will start their deal shortly.
We understand. Sometimes the balance between hobby pursuits and family time is a fine line. Usually the Lord will nudge us in the right direction when appropriate.
I see them horizontal hives in the back. Got to keep them bee's in the mix. Just use the co-op drill and plug the shoots for what row spacing you want. Iv done it several times. We noticed a real difference when we planted sweet corn. Smaller kernels and high sugar content.
That is the direction we are leaning. I talked with someone smarter than me and he said just block off all the chutes until I get a 30" spacing and it should work just fine. I found the rear remote hose kit for only $130 so that is sounding like the way to go. Only $75 to rent a 5' or 7.5' drill for the weekend from the co-op. Thanks for the encouragement!
Definitely 5 ft I tried 7.5 with 45 hp 4wd and it struggled. I went borrowed buddies 70 hp. I have a Deere 5410 81hp cab with ac/heat for sale if interested. I bought a compact 68 hp to replace it.
GREAT to know, I will call up there and make sure they have the 5' reserved for me. We dont have Ag tires or weight in the tires, so sounds like the 5' is the way to go with a 40 hp
How high are your fake power lines. And what kind of wire did you use. I read someone else said they found out tje doves didn't like the plastic coated wire! I assume its to slick for them to hold onto.
I’ll be honest, not sure but they are up there. Close to a standard real one. We had to use the loader to stand them up and get on a 18 foot ladder to rig them. This wire is not coded, I heard the same thing. This is a stranded cable like you would use across a road or path. Not sure the diameter, about the size of your pinky maybe
41 gross HP, the minimum required, hoping if I lock the dif it will be ok. They have a 5' and a 7.5' drill, I am going to try and get the 5' so we can pull it easier and wiggle around our tight setup. Any words of advice?
We do the best we can with what we have! I use to do all this with one 25 hp tractor, disc, bush hog and bag seeder. We came a long way thanks to me and dads equipment investments. Little bit here and there has added up. Thanks for watching!@@Kudubama
@@Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors Once they are in and growing if I decide to spray the grass out on the perdovic what leaf stage would be best to spray them?
Which crop would you say held the most dove out of those 3?

I can’t wait to follow along with your 1st year of drilling
We just started getting our stuff ready. Chopped in the deer plots. Hope to burn down our fields but this damn rain as been killer.
Went and put hands on the county co-op drill, got some specs. Trending in that direction !
Def got to pay to play. Looking good.
You aint kidding! I need to drop a hobby... but I enjoy them all !

We do fine with traditional till practices but it is a lot of extra work to get fields prepped. There isn’t any co-op offering, unfortunately.

So can you spray prowl h20, Me-too-lachlor, spartan charge on just regular black oil seeds once the plantwr gets them in the ground??
Correct, can use all the same pre-emergents on Black Oil regular perdovic after planting, before germination!
