It was very good in Early Access and the devs were super responsive to suggestions. I think you will enjoy this one if you like Mount and Blade and BB. Good luck!
BB and M&B are great games. I've got about 1k hours in those games combined. 500 of which belong to Battle Brothers :P If this game is anything similar to those two, which it kinda looks, this is absolutely worth 16 euro on steam.
What's terrifying is that it's less "Elder God" and more "Newborn Cthulu". Still eldritch and unknowable, but without the comfort of knowing it's been around for a while.
Have over 200 hours in the game and have played since it became an early access. Game is good. Extremely good. Only real complaint I have is that sometimes the management of your group becomes the main focus and everything else gets dwarfed by how much time is required to do it. Resources become a huge chunk of time for fetching and finding which can overwhelm the main story. The main story starts a bit slow, but once it revs up it becomes a wild ride. 8/10 highly recommend it. There is a ton of content and even plenty of secrets to discover as well as hidden classes.
This game sounds right up my alley! I once tried to imagine what kind of video game I'd like my homebrew fantasy setting to feature in, What I came up with was combat and exploration like the Owlcat Pathfinder games, but with an adventuring company management very much like what was described here. Needless to say, I'm intrigued!
Great game, really drew me in, but I forced myself to stop playing because I didn't want to spoil the finished product for myself. Looking forward to diving back in.
I've really enjoyed this game and was playing MP with a buddy before life got too busy. It's been about 1-2 months since we've played, and it's crazy how much stuff they've been adding. For sure, it is much more approachable than battle bros and a ton of fun.
I played a free demo of this way back when and purchased the game afterwards to support the development. Have been eagerly awaiting full release and will for sure enjoy many hours of gameplay. Thank you for an awesome vid, and have a great day!
The save options is great. I want more devs to allow us to choose not force us into how we save. I had to mod free saving into I think it was Fallout 4's survival mode because the devs forced only saves in beds. And it was horrible, because the game had bugs, glitches and things out of your control that made it a nightmare. It also made no sence to save by sleeping. Options for us to pick is always preferable.
Been slowly playing this for a few months on and off. It's genuinely a really good and satisfying game for a lot of the reasons covered here. The latest big patch ironed out a few gripes I had with it and playing on region locked is honestly a blast. Plus it looks good , a big + over something like battle brothers which i personally struggled to get past the basic graphics. I recommend fwiw. ps. i didnt even realised it released with another big patch!
I have 200 hours in this game already. Highly recommended for role players who like creating parties of 12 and losing most of them over time and thinking up their stories along the way.
Looks interesting. World map has a Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord vibe. While I love the army building that comes with that game, it is fun to be more humble and keep things small and focus on a few well built dudes than an entire army. Minus the turn based aspect, I see a lot of similarities between the two games. Will definitely have to check it out when the next paycheck comes in. Also Adaptive vs Region locked is a GODSEND that more open world games need to offer.
Any views on this vs BattleBros? I found Wartales-at least in beta-a somewhat empty experience, without much deep narrative or lore building that made my actions feel impactful (more than just this brigand is now no longer threatening that village) or made me care about the world. If I’m drawn into the setting and feel I’m influencing it in a meaningful way I don’t care how good mechanics are-it’s why I love Witcher 3, Baldur’s Gate 1&2, Fallout 2 and WOTR. Not sure if I will pick up Wartales again unless above was addressed.
Ive been playing Wartales for a long time. I had no idea it was even in pre-release. I was pleasantly surprised when I logged in yesterday to its "official release" The new content is nice and the inclusion of voiced character s now is awesome. Such a relaxing game that can either be a casually played game or go into it with a hardcore mindset.
I really love this game. Its the little things that make it great. I hired a new bowman to my squad and she accidentally shot an arrow to my other teammates back. In the camp she then proceeded to complain how she is a bad shot and I got and option where she could train her to be better.
I have this game on my wishlist for 6 months now, but i couldn't convince myself to buy it. I love how much info you gave with so little time. Thanks! I'll be buying it cause it seems like a better version of Battle Brothers.
@@graylander4362 Agreed. Battle Brothers is a whole other league. This game is gorgeous and has decent gameplay, but BB has the best turn based combat I had seen, period, and its models, artstyle, and especially armor and weaponry are so sublime. BB conveys much better the brutal medieval world and what it would probably be like for a mercenary company in a low medieval setting, while simultaneously having amazing gameplay. Not saying Wartales doesn't, but it definitely feels more gamey. BB will never be unthroned if a mercenary-company running genre ever becomes a thing.
@@ivansalamon7028 i wish i didnt hate the artstyle of BB so much, I cant play the game because of it. That low poly 2d stuff just feels low effort to me
@@ivansalamon7028 absolutely, i genuinely wish i didnt have this weird mental block when it comes to those games, ive tried to play them, and everytime i fail to get hooked
One thing I noticed after a recent update all the starting parties are different now, originally the apprentice and deserter starting parties were the same.
I like hiding enemy turns as a difficulty option as well. Makes things harder without enemies just being weirdly powerful or something. It's great so far!
Easy wishlist addition for me. The "mount and blade: warband" nostalgia might be speaking, but this looks extremely promising. Looking forward to your review!
Got the game a couple of months after release but I was waiting for it to be patched and haven't played it yet. Seems like now is a great time to finally dive in. I like the fact that you can customize the look of your crew to fit what you want. Makes it more personnal.
I started this game quite a while ago, just after the early access started. And I loved it. Then my laptop died. Well, it's been a year and I have a new laptop so I need to start this up again! Thanks for the video reminder.😅
YEAH ! My new goal in life is to become a Wartales expert. With the release of the full game, it is said that my mercenaries, skills and weapons have been nerved a lot... This sounds good because on my first run life became too easy, after some levels, with all legendary weapons. I love that illusionnary slow paced ambience : music, open exploration, choosing your combats may make you think you have all the time you want. NOT true ! you're actually in desperate hurry 🙂 Thank you Mortim for your presentation, and thanks to Shiro Games for my many hours of good time wandering between Cortia and Gosenberg
Online-Co-Op sounds like it could be fun for a game like this. Is it two palyer co-op? Four player co-op? Many palyer co-op? Any whos great content. Helped a lot to understand the game.
Dude wartales is great, it scratched my fire emblem itch and then some. I wish there was an option to designate team members for battle while others sit battles out and that lowered the amount of food consumption. I’m spending my days trying to find food rather than quest lol
Been waiting for this game for a year and some, reminds me of Battle Brothers, one of the best tactical games ever made, which, by the way I recommend you give it a look!
Have been following this game, finally bought it today as it was on sale with a discount. As part of this "Check Out" video, Mort, it would have been cool if you provided examples of combos / use of some of the more interesting abilities you've encountered.
So I played this game a while back and although the combat was solid I had a hard time managing and understanding some aspects of it. Solid game but be prepared to take some time to really get into it
This looks *very* much like Battle Brothers with more polished graphics. Whether or not the gameplay is actually better, or even as good as Battle Brothers remains to be seen.
I've heard from many that BB is definitely the better game but for me personally it was a lot easier to dive in and get lost in Wartales than in BB. If you're a hardcore BB you may find Wartales a bit watered down I guess? Idk
@@infamousincubus2888 I guess you could call me a hardcore BB fan since that is pretty much all I've played for the past two years, lol. I might try Wartales though, once I watch Mort's full review.

I played it some during early access and enjoyed it, but also ... it kinda felt overhyped.
