Good short story and narration. This is a good terrifying tale. I like how the protagonist and his servant "take care of this one" towards the end of the story. The narration is fantastic, as always.
Absolutely love your show and narrating style. This story seems to contain themes found in two of M.R.James' tales: the reference to consuming human hearts to preserve youth by the protagonist's uncle is similar to "Lost Hearts." The protagonist in "Lost Hearts" is also haunted by the uncle's victims, and the uncle also comes to a violent, gory end. The element of the demoniacal flies recalls James' "An Evening's Entertainment." Your elegant reading of this story (as with your other pieces) certainly does justice to the tale!
Thank you, Rick! Having just read two volumes of Cowles' work, I think it's fair to say he was emulating M.R. Some good stories though. I've got another by Cowles coming up.
Cool ! Had not heard this one before and really enjoyed it . The sound of the flies was really creepy and you had to really admire Jenkins' pluck after all what he had seen and then the dead guy appearing in his chair , and stuff , but he still hung with his boss . You can't get help like that nowadays ! 💀🎱💀
Even though this is a horror story, I’ve fallen asleep to it TWICE already!! Hey, a bedtime story can be anything, right! … right? Excellent narration.
You are gifted with the perfect voice for this genre. The story itself is a little derivative of M. R. James, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you!!! 👏👏👏
Why, thank you, Deborah. Glad you've enjoyed things so far. I'm not planning to go off the boil any time soon, but feel free to let me know if the quality dips 😉🤣 Thanks for the sub...and welcome!
I rate tge story B+ the delivery A. It could have been a little longer with a more gradual development of the character and more descriptive of the house, the surroundings, and especially the chilling encounters with ghosts.

It is refreshing to find a protagonist in a haunted house story that does not deny it as his servants run away, one by one.
As a classic horror lover, I'm really happy to find you!!
Thanks cole Marie! Welcome to the channel. More stories coming soon 😊

Creeeeepy! Truly horriful, Love the sound.images and narration. Thank you., Jasper!
What better tales to listen to while doing chores on a dank, dreary autumn day…..
Great voice, great sound effects, very atmospheric. Also, first time I've heard one of F. Cowles stories being read out anywhere. Top notch!
Thank you! More Cowles on the way soon.
I don’t think I had heard this one Jasper. As always, your unique voice adds much to the atmosphere of a spooky tale. Hope all is well.

Ghastly tale of Horror nice soundtrack 😨 TS 9:30 time to flee ... then creepy sounds ... perfect
The flies terrorized the undead uncle- how horrific it must have been for the true-hearted living!
Thank you again

I hear the "echoes" of "lost heart's 💔 ". Great channel 👍 👏 😀....
Definitely! Glad you like the channel 😊
Atmospheric! Your voice is perfect for these stories.
Thank you so much, Carla! Glad you enjoyed.
I agree completely 👻
Hella enjoyable & shivery, Mr L'Estrange. Gratitude!
Thank you, Ramey!
What was Frederick Cowles thinking? How can I replicate the ritual without the incantation? Another superb reading.

Hi Fiona! A lot of my listeners use this channel as a sleeping aid. I try to take it as a compliment 😆
Excellent all round. I'm so glad I came across a recommendation for your channel. Thank you very much!
Thanks Susan! Welcome to the channel.
You are gifted with the perfect voice for this genre.

Thank you!!! 👏👏👏
Thank you, Kevin. Yes, it's fair to say Cowles was a bit of an M.R.James copyist, but they are fun stories not widely found on other channels.
First-timer here. Your voice gives me that very appropriate creepy vibe.
Thank you. This is the one circumstance in which having a creepy voice could be considered advantageous 🤣
Welcome to the channel. Glad you enjoyed!
The best scary stories perfect 👍
Thank you, Mary. Glad you enjoyed 🙂
Wow, these are really good productions for a new channel!
Hey, thank you, Jack. The sound editing was a bit ropey when I started but I'm getting the hang of it now 😂
@@EnCryptedHorror I'll have to listen to your first few stories before I believe there was ever any 'ropeyness' 😂
I'm REALLY liking what I'm hearing so far.
You have my sub now ,so please don't let me down :)
Why, thank you, Deborah. Glad you've enjoyed things so far. I'm not planning to go off the boil any time soon, but feel free to let me know if the quality dips 😉🤣 Thanks for the sub...and welcome!
My sister and her family live in Kings Lynn
Nice town 😊
Fen again... 😎
Never, ever go live in a house your creepy uncle bequeathed to you. Just don't do it.
A strangely garrulous solicitor1 But I guess some-one has to set the stage.... "uncanny" is otherwise probably a fairly non-lawyerly term!
Be great to a creepy, scary rating from 1-10
MR James "Lost hearts" 1895 ... Cowels this story 1936
Haha! If you read the Cowles anthology I would say...he wears his influences on his sleeve.
Good fun though.
@@EnCryptedHorror A few of my favorites: *The Tarn/Jerry Bundler/Music of Erich Zann/With & Without Buttons*

Obviously another elitist Pete (oh!) baby eaterGross AF. Great story, thanks!
Thank you for listening!
Great story! I'd love to hear more by this writer:)
Yes, must do some more Fred Cowles...
