@ that is not true. They bring little improvements each generation. Search up the differences between each dualsense gen and you will see what I am talking about.
I would get a new dualsense every year until 2 years ago or 3 when i got a blue one and even with regular use it has had no stick drift issues. Not sure if i just got lucky but i had gotten 2 other controllers on sale just in case...and im still using the blue dualsense while the others dont see any use 😅
I had a gen1 that came with PS5 when I buyed it. After a year controller started to drift, So I went to the seller to file a complaint and they gaved me gen4 :D
Can’t be that big of a difference between the generations

My camera didn't recognize the QRs codes from my controllers. I tried the 2nd method and realized one of my controllers doesn't even have a serial number printed on it.
I was recently looking at the Rodney’s Underground Life channel. I’m a big fan and made a spiritual successor on my channel and was wondering what happened to the videos?
I recognize you as a long time viewer, so I'll give you the scoop. Some maintenance people found some of the Rodney stuff and asked a lot of embarrassing questions. I didn't want them to go home and research what the channel was about. This could ultimately give way to people knowing my location. So I privated all the videos. Truthfully, I was already going to hide those videos out of fear someone may think they were real. I have zero time to produce Rodney videos anyway, so nothing additional will get produced.
There's no way to determine that without a big testing lab. I don't think anyone is doing that, so all that's left are anecdotal statements from people, which I don't believe is reliable.
Hey man I need help I have a gen 2 ps5 controller however I was cleaning inside for stick drift and I found a black almost like oily thing inside where the disks are if you know can you tell me
It's very hard to answer without testing a bunch in an expensive lab. However, when I observe the mechanisms that make up the analog stick, they all look the same across generations.
If you are in store, you can look at the shelf hanger tab. The new gen 5 is a white cardboard shelf hanger. The old gen is a see through plastic shelf hanger.
I do not think this is a reliable way to tell. Serial numbers are only on the backs of the controllers. The shelf tags and hangers do not "know" what serial numbers are inside the boxes hanging beneath them.
and your wright for it. I just bought my PS5 Today evntho I don't need the upgrade from 4 to 5 Yet. So eventho owing a PS5 I'm not gone use it yet. I bought it because I could buy the 30th anniversary version Slim for retail price. That's the only reason why I bought it. Also a lot of People complain about the Terrible build of the PS5 controllers with stick drift I wait untill the release a good selection of games and better controllers 😊
What was PlayStation thinking with gen 1 / gen 2 , it looks like a cheap plastic controller from ali express. The 30th anniversary looks much more premium
Good question. I wanted the video to be short, so didn't explain the point, which is some people want to know the gen number because they have a perception that certain gens were higher quality than others. Also, if someone is repairing the controller, they may need parts that fit their gen.
Hahaha 😆 you are telling bad jokes. PlayStation 2-4 have black controllers while PlayStation one had gray one and PlayStation 5 has white one. That how it should be.
Model numbers refer to the type, e.g. this one is black, this one is the red model, etc. Changes in model numbers are usually reserved for items with major revisions between them, like actual consoles.
But I'm not talking about model numbers in the video. Serial numbers contain a lot more info. Like I mentioned, the second digit corresponds to the board revision. You can have the same model number, but with different boards.

Didn’t even know this was a thing
lol always is 😅
Well, it don't. It just refers to the production series, all generations are exactly the same.

I got a brand new PS5 Slim Disc Edition and it came with a gen 3 controller! Love seeing companies cheap out and use old stock for consoles!
Same here
same. My cosmic red one was a gen 5 though.
Same
My pro came with a Gen 4
Straight to the point. Great vid, hard to find helpful videos these days. Thanks!
I got a 30th year dualsense that turns out to be a gen 4, not 5. LoL
This makes sense. They were probably manufactured a year ago, then kept in a warehouse until the anniversary.
SAME
lol you are scammed!!!!!!!! Ha ha ha !!!!
Mine is gen one…. Got it when the ps5 first came out. Surprised it is still working very well
Dang didn't expect the Astro bot controller to be only Gen 4. I guess the PS5 Pro release is what is Gen 5.
They probably stockpiled them prior to the game being finished.
I just thought that my Astro Bot controller is probably Gen 4, right before I made it to this comment.
If they are still making them, the newer ones will be Gen 5.
I have the PS5 Pro and I confirm that the controllers included are GEN 5.
@@JoseGarcia-yd4zei got a Gen 4
more people should know this. please share to dualsense owners! 🎉❤
So many gen of controllers but none solved the drifting issue
All controllers suffer that. Nintendo's more than others...
Chroma controllers use hall effect sticks now.
They earn money off of it. Why would they solve it?
@@darkplainsdrifter3499 no they don't they want you to think that to buy more. Hall effect. You're welcome.
Love how he explained the difference between them 👍
That's not the purpose of the video. See the pinned comment to see the videos that have teardowns. If you listened, I alluded to those videos.
The 5th generation is easy to swap out for shell,I tried to swap for the 040 shell and it worked
Ok but what’s the difference in each generation? Is the 5th one better than the 1st?
See pinned comment.
Newly bought sterling silver is Gen 4.
Just got the Sterling Silver too and it looks so good.
And just so everyone knows, future sterling silvers will be Gen 5s, at some point. Unless it is limited edition or suddenly discontinued.

I have a question. Does the Dualsense Edge have versions too? I appreciate this video a lot. Thank you!
Yes it does. I may do a video showing those differences too.
@@HowToXyes please do it
The QR code dont work
Thanks for a updated video! I wonder why some controllers have bdm-050 (R or M) though.
I have a gen 4. Are there any mechanical differences? Is it better to look for a gen 5?
I had a gen1 that came with PS5 when I buyed it. After a year controller started to drift, So I went to the seller to file a complaint and they gaved me gen4 :D
I have just received a gen 5 dualsense here, galactic purple.

My camera didn't recognize the QRs codes from my controllers. I tried the 2nd method and realized one of my controllers doesn't even have a serial number printed on it.
I have not heard of that before, but I do know the printed stuff wears off after a lot of use.
@@HowToX actually my iphone 15 couldnt do it, but my iphone 11 could. Thanks!
So which one gets less drift?
Impossible to determine without a million dollar lab.
I don’t think one can get less drift. It probably depends on how you take care of the controller.
Is there generations on the Dualsense Edge?
a stupid question, so gen 5 better than gen 4....etc ?
Thank you😢😊😊😊
What about the dual sense edge and did Sony did this wit the ps4 controllers ?

Whats the difference in gaming between the gens?
I just asked Sony for the current series they answered CFI1218, do you know this?

I have a gen 1, which is the controller that came with my PS5 in 2020, 1 gen 2 and one gen 5 that came with my ps5 pro
Mine is gen 4th since it's a ps5 slim that was made last year, manufactured then
Any difference with the drift
Never had any
It's very hard to answer without testing a bunch in an expensive lab. However, when I observe the mechanisms that make up the analog stick, they all look the same across generations.
Guess what 4th generation 1B was without stick drift and 5th 1B was with it from the box
How to know which one it is while ordering one?
You don't.
Do I have to have the original Charging Station, are substitutes also ok?
There are many third party charging stations on Amazon. Some have good reviews.
Any performance changes?
I bought ps5 slim 2 month ago,the package doesnt have 8k sign nomore as older version had, what gen is my dualsense then?
Only way is to scan the QR code on the controller.
Whatever gen it is they all work and deliver the same experience I think
Its because of stickdrift issues people tend to buy the newer generations i think
both my standard and black controller is 4th gen
I think 5th gen has lighter better feeling silicone pads, going back to the other gens feel tougher.
If you are in store, you can look at the shelf hanger tab. The new gen 5 is a white cardboard shelf hanger. The old gen is a see through plastic shelf hanger.

To determine that one would have to open up a million dollar lab.
Ok but what matters are they equal in quality??

So, 5th one is best. Right?
Nobody can make that assumption unless they have a million dollar lab.
My gen 4 stick drifts after 2 weeks of using
The latest gen aren't always the best. Right?
Probably not, but would need a lab to determine.
My brand new cosmic purple is gen 5
does newer gens fix stick drift
So far, Gen 4 has the best stick drift, but if Gen 5 is out, it is probably better
Doubtful. From what I can see they all use the same analog stick tech.
Just checked my 30th anniversary controller and it happens to be a 4th Gen
