David hewlett Reminds me of my first bees. A black bee swarm from my uncle in vale of Evesham. They always “boiled” … were aggressive.I got stung a lot but they produced enough honey to keep my student van on the road - just! 1966 a long way away. My current hives are so docile.

Great rules thanks, very easy to apply, especially the 2nd super rule Mine all have 1 super on in Lincolnshire and we are due to get some warm weather next week. So I will check the coverage on the super. Appreciated as always
Great video and alot of help. great explanation about supers. im in my 3th year and its funny about how agressive your amm are. Only have AMM (in Ireland) and only time ive seen AMM that agressive is when the're hydrids or on the oil seed rake.
Great stuff, thanks again, it looks like I'm a few supers short on my hives, going to put some more on tomorrow. There's no chance I can get those black bees here in urban Surrey however, I might buy some for the mother-in-law 🤣
When adding supers do people under super(directly above brood box) or over super( the top most box). I’ve always over supered but wasn’t sure if that was best
Another great video, based on this I’d better go back and put an additional super on all the hives we inspected yesterday!! I now I have asked this before, is it best to put new supers on top of the crown board or just on top of the top super?
Do you always use a queen excluder when supering? I’ve added supers to my hives with fresh foundation and some people advise leaving the queen excluder off for a while to encourage the bees into the super box… What do you advise Gruff? Excellent video , many thanks
Thanks Marcus, I always use a queen excluder. To get the bees to draw the foundation out faster feed them a little bit of syrup. They will draw it out perfectly.
Do you not run the risk of chilling the brood area and setting them back if we get a cold snap in the spring with so much space above them when putting on 2 supers?
That’s a good question. As long as the hive is big and strong they will be fine. Of course keep an eye out for extreme cold weather! That is the exemption to the rule.
should we still feed when they have supers on?, also wondering gruff if you could do a video on the different types of honeybee, buckfast, carnolion, ect👍👍
If they have zero stores and there is no honey flow then you have no choice but to feed. My rule is when feeding with supers on feed fondant only. They are much less likely to store it. That’s a great idea 😊👍🏻
Chatting to a 3rd generation professional keeper fascinating to find he didn't do very much the BBKA way, certain he gets more honey with a lot less faff.
That was one of the best explanations of supering for beginners like me great video thanks 🙏 keep them going
Thank you Olly 😊

That's really interesting we are usually undecided when to add the supers or not, that just clarified it, thank you!!
Glad you found the video useful 😊
An enthusiastic to a great season with the bees!
😊
Good looking colonies, Gruffydd.
Thank you 😊

The good old days of 1966 😁
That’s the problem with angry bees, to often their great producers!!

They were angry because the wind was so cold! Their not like that all the time 😊
Great video. I will adopt your rules of thumb for supering - always need to plan ahead. What room will the bees need tomorrow/next week.
😊👍🏻
cheers gruffyd I like the way you paused and let us figure it out befoe you answered.
Did you get them all right!? 😄
Very good information, thank you😊 The last person I saw that found a queen wasp in their roof killed it, so nice to see you leave it alone 🙂
Thank you 😊

😂😂😂
Reminds me of the Irish bees I used to keep now in south of France and the bees don’t even need smoke
When adding supers do people under super(directly above brood box) or over super( the top most box). I’ve always over supered but wasn’t sure if that was best
I always put the empty one on top 😊👍🏻

Thanks Rob,
This time of year always above the super for me. 😊👍🏻
Will the bees fill the super fast if you place it under the already filled super?
It makes no difference 😊

You have an orange Hugh vis bee suit in a lot of these videos... does it matter what colour they are?
Your suit can be any colour you want 😊
Hi great as always can I ask a question, generally do you just add a super on top or underneath the super’s ? or does it depend.
Thank you, always on top 😊👍🏻

@@gwenyngruffydd cheers gruff 👍, checking them today, hopefully doing some splits
Those look like really nice gloves. Where did you get them from? Can the bees sting you through them?
Hi, we sell them on our website. Their not sting proof but the bees don’t tend to sting you through them
Where did you buy that orange suit? :)
From bj sheriff
Well i guess , if my supers got only foundation ( not been build yet ) I’ll add only one super and wait until is build up , is that correct?
If your supering with foundation only I would feed a little bit of syrup so they can draw it out quickly 😊👍🏻
You mean add a super and a feeder on top? Thx
Yes if it’s foundation. Only give them 2-3 litres at a time. Once drawn stop feeding.
@@gwenyngruffydd thank you👍🏻
Us Welshies have always been feisty and defend our territory, great that our bees do the same...lol,
Lol
Do you get stung through those gloves?
Hardly ever. But their not sting proof
Do you ever under super?
No never. Always super on top
Chatting to a 3rd generation professional keeper fascinating to find he didn't do very much the BBKA way, certain he gets more honey with a lot less faff.
There’s a big difference between Beekeeing and beefarming 😊
Why don’t you use glass quilts? 🇬🇧
Because these hives come with timber crown boards as standard.
I really like your videos, but can you please translate them into English.
😅 I know my accent is really strong. I think there are subtitle option on RUclips?
Lol. That may help. But great video
