The 89 Niners (Unstoppable Force) vs 85 Bears (Immovable Object). Here are their three playoff scores: 85 Bears (21-0, 24-0, 46-10) 89 Niners (41-13, 30-3, 55-10) No other teams have been that dominant in the playoffs. All TDs against came in garbage time late in 4th quarter.
@Harry Engel Its a toss up. The 85 patriots had a slightly better overall offense but committed more penalties and the broncos had a better defense yardage wise. Both teams are actually pretty equal, i'd say its a toss up, the patriots were more prone to make mistakes but their defense was much better at getting turnovers. In their playoff run they got 18(!!!) turnovers over 4 games, while the broncos got 5 over 3 games (none in the sb).

They would’ve destroyed the NFL for years. The biggest weakness of that team was lack of a speedster, game breaking WR. With Rice, opposing defenses don’t learn to crowd the box and cut off the medium length passing lanes because Montana to Rice would’ve eaten them alive.
I was happy when George Seifert took over as Head Coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 1989 after Bill Walsh retired, but I wished that Walsh would of stayed on as Coach for a couple more seasons.
The 1984 49ers played primarily a 3-4 defense. That D-Line depth was NINE DEEP. 8 of those 9 actually played. That's pressure ALL DAY on opposing O-Lines on both passing AND running. Combine that with an PRO BOWL SECONDARY. It's over. That was Marino's only real shot at a ring. But they just happen to run into the team of the decade at their very peak.
Best team I ever saw was the 89 49ers. Joe Montana, Roger Craig, Tom Rathman, Jerry Rice, John Taylor, and Brent Jones on offense and Charles Haley, Bill Romanowski, Matt Millen, and Ronnie Lott on defense. The 84 Niners were great too but the 89 team was the best one I saw
Psalmist the Steelers that won super bowl 13 needed jackie smith to butter up his hands to win also they lost 2 games. The bears didn’t have a better offense than the Niners. The dolphins played two less games then the 9ers did.
And thats why they call them the whiners there is always an excuse Pittsburgh ended that undefeated season my fam all niner fans bowed down to that steeler win. The only steeler fan surrounded by niner fans gave up props for the only team to beat the niners that year and we beat your whiners so get over it. You werent going undefeated and didnt
if the 9ers win that game, they either lose again at some point or don't end up winning the super bowl. losses like those are what catapult teams to super bowl victories.
Just like Larry Csonka said, other teams might be viewed as being more talented than the 72 Dolphins, but they lost a game. True perfection is a 0 in the loss and tie columns, and only one team in the Super Bowl Era can say that they accomplished that.
If memory suits me correct both super bowl teams on either side of the 85 bears did the same thing and yet were never considered as great as the 85 bears. Those teams being the 84 49ers, and a team that gets forgotten about with a 14and 2 record, a team that steam rolled everyone in the playoffs, the 1986 New York Giants!
You can live with that? I can't because the 1989 49ers deserve #1 because they had the most dominating playoff run in NFL History. @Moishie Oh that season where the Dolphins played TWO whole teams with a winning record in a 14 game season? Yeah, real impressed, so impressed I would bet serious money that any of the REAL top ten teams use miami as a doormat on the way to a win by 2 touchdowns or more. Shula is still mad that his male nurse didn't change his diapers, because the nurse knows the miami playoff history from 1983 and knows Shula "likes it muddy".

The list is not about who had the best record. The list is about the greatest team of all time. Steelers 78 and 49ers 89 would destroy Dolphins, who beat big bench of crap teams throughout the season.
The '91 Redskins belonged in this group, not #15. They had a bigger margin of victory than ANY other SB winner, beating 5 playoff teams from that season in the process. Literally the only way they could have been more dominant is go undefeated.
in terms of BEST teams, it would go 07 pats, 85 bears, 91 redskins. greatest teams, the 91 redskins i would put at 5 all-time, behind the 72 dolphins, 85 bears, 89 49ers, maybe 66 packers.

You cant make that stuff up. Unforgettable. Its like it happened yesterday. No one in Hollywood could have come up with something like this. Da 1985 Bears the best ever. Not only in Football, but all sports.
The 2020 Jets may be joining them. They are 0-10 and have six games remaining: five against teams over .500 and one against the Patriots (who might be over .500 by week 17 when the game happens).
What I like most about watching 49ers offensive highlights from the late 80s is if Jerry Rice isn't the one making the highlights, then he's the one on screen making the key blocks for the ones making the highlights
Rice wasn't even in the NFL for thier first 2 SB wins in 81 and 84 seasons. You must have only watched hilites of the last 2. Montana was in all 4. 4-0. Perfection.

I think the 92 Cowboys are completely overlooked for some reason and should be in the top 5 teams of all time. Future HOF at QB, RB, WR, DE. Troy, Emmitt, Irvin, Novacek, Moose Johnson, all in their prime. One of the most dominate OL in the history of the NFL. The number one defense in the NFL that year they were super deep and it was the youngest team in the NFL meaning they were fast and athletic and in their primes. That team was a Leon Lett drop ball on the 1 yard line away from the Super Bowl scoring record. That team was unstoppable.
For anyone confused, the reason McDaniels threw the projector after Buddy said they were his heroes, is because Buddy was being traded and the team found out before the game. They took out their anger on New England for that Super Bowl
Elway sucked in the 3 SB he lost in the 80s. Back then, before he finally won one at the end of his career, he was in the Fran Tarkenton category, 0-3. He got completely schooled by Montana. When he won later, it was because they were primarily a running team. Ball control and defense.
FOR MY MONEY I STILL SAY THAT 1989 49ERS TEAM WAS THE BEST TEAM FOR A SEASON IN ALL ASPECTS OF FOOTBALL THAT I'VE EVER SEEN...MAYBE EVEN A TIE WITH THE 85 BEARS BUT DAMN THEY WERE JUST A PERFECT TEAM
Times sure have changed even though the history hasn't - there was a time when saying that '72 was the greatest of all time would've been like saying Emmitt Smith was the greatest RB all time.
The list is supposedly "greatest" teams, not "most talented." So the '72 Dolphins are the only possible choice for #1 and that's not even arguable. But most talented is very much open for debate.
jasunn dakidd 07 patriots had talent but only had like 5 elite players and a bunch of above average while ravens, bears, Steelers, 49ers had like 10 elite players when they won Super Bowls 07 patriots also lost only game that mattered against the giants who had 4 elite defensive linemen who destroyed the o-line
The ‘72 Dolphins also played the weakest roster of teams on any of the Top 5 : the Chiefs and Colts on the decline, the Cardinals and Patriots who couldn’t get anything right, the Jets with a horrible defense, the Steelers, Oilers, and Bills before their successful 70s teams and the Vikings in the one season they didn’t make the playoffs in a span of 15 years. And for some inane reason they managed to avoid the Raiders, who practically owned them. So no, I wouldn’t put this team at number one by any stretch. They were more lucky than good, as the old saying goes. That honor should go to the 1989 49ers or the 1978 Steelers.
Pierangelo Espinocilla sake argument is made about patriots they play in afc East so how does that affect them in playoffs home field advantage omg that’s why they win games in playoffs obviously 🙄
THE QB'S AND RECEIVERS HAVE SUCH AN ADVANTAGE IN THE 2000'S i was watching cowbys v eagles staubach gets sacked and with quite a delay gets pounded into the ground. it was pure violence back then no flags... great now its a video game
One of the best teams I have ever seen was that Baltimore team of 2000 or whatever year they won the Super Bowl. Ray Lewis was just a different type of killer.
89 Niners were awesome, talk about road warriors, lost two games by 5 points all year both at Candlestick. Then destroyed the leagues best teams in the playoffs.
2015 Broncos are criminally underrated at 58 they should be top 20, literally only had decent run game & D. Not to mention they still held a team averaging 31.25 points a game to 10 points
The Fins deserve it because they played as a team. They didn’t have a star QB (in fact he missed half the season), they were built on defense and the run, which both need solid team play to do
If the Chargers had not given up on Drew Brees they would have drafted Larry Fitzgerald in 2004, and maybe San Diego wins the 2007 AFC conference championship.
I don’t know man. Those type of hypothetical scenarios can never keep all variables the same, with not only those 2 teams but the whole league. New England could have certainly won either of those years but it’s certainly not a given. Whose to say the Chargers with Manning could have somehow changed the playoff matchups and advantages with Manning. Maybe New England beats or loses to another NFC team. Or Maybe Rivers and the Giants are the favorites. Either way I think both of those QBs are Hall of Famers. It will be a close vote though.
I'm a Giants fan Daniel...so let me start I have no love for those Cowboys. But I think the 92 Cowboys would have beaten the 49ers. They were the number 1 ranked defense and their Oline was impossible to stop.It would have been a tough game...but on a neutral field I take those Cowboys.
1972 Miami Dolphins still number 1 with speed, versatility and power and the coolest part of the story Earl Morrall you have to have a Kurt Warner and the coach Don Shula the greatest Coach. I wanted to play for Shula all he wanted was perfection❤
@cabymont I respect that argument, but that's the same for all these teams. The 84 team outscored their opponents by 248 points in the regular season compared to the 89 team who outscored their opponents by 189 and the almighty 85 Bears who outscored their opponents by 258. And that 84 defense shutout their playoff opponents in 9 outta 12 quarters. But the 89 team was all time dominant in the playoffs as defending SB champs, so I get the argument. Either way, they're both over the 78 Steelers IMO who feasted on a weak schedule. And Im a Cowboy fan, so Im not caping for either of these teams...lol
@Dicky Jones LOL NO WAY. That 85 Bears Defense would have shut them out and that 89 Niner team would have made their defense look silly. Forget about that defense that would have also shut them out LOL.
@@AndresGrimace What does that have to do with anything/ That 85 Dolphin team had one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game hahaha. Those 72 Dolphins were good but do you really believe they would have been able to run against that Bears team or keep up with that 89 Niner team?
@@byronsmith3152 The 1972 are the best team ever not because they could beat a team from another or any era. It's because of what they did and how they did it and no other team has been able to do. Dominate the teams they had to play against and winning the SB undefeated.
@@AndresGrimace This is about greatest TEAM not greatest season. Their season was great no doubt, but the teams they had to beat were subpar at best. ’72 Dolphins faced a strength of schedule of below .350. Nowadays it’s pretty much impossible to be assigned one below .450. Their schedule was three times farther from .500 than is even possible to get nowadays. They also won six games by less than a TD. Really good team, far from the best ever.
you can always make the theory the giants were better than the pats in 2007, the dolphins were better than the bears in 1985, but you can't say anything about any team who played the dolphins in 1972. best team ever if they played today? 07 pats. most dominant team of all-time? '85 bears, '89 49ers, or the '86 giants.
The differences between the top 5 teams is so small you almost can't see them. I'm from Chicago so you know who gets my vote for #1, especially since half the Dolphins schedule was against teams with losing records. Plus, even though Ryan deserves a ton of credit, he's the one that lost that game to Miami by refusing to adjust at halftime to have better pass coverage, as Ditka suggested to him in the locker room at the half.
With all due respect to the 1972 Dolphins, the 1989 49ers are the greatest, most talented, most utterly DOMINANT football team ever assembled. When you score almost 28 pts/game, allow less than 16 per game, go 15-1, then enter the playoffs by rattling off victories of 41-13, 30-3, before ANNIHILATING the #1 defense in football that year (Broncos allowed 14.1 pts/game in the regular season) 55-10...………………..…….. I'm sorry, but you are officially the greatest team we've ever seen
The 17-0 Dolphins in that Super Bowl were about to kick a field goal in the 4th quarter to make the score 17 - 0 but it was blocked & returned for a touchdown which made the final score 14 to 7.
I thought they'd put one of the 9ers at 1. For me though, I put '85 Bears at 1, '72 Dolphins at 2, and move the '07 Pats to 3 because even though they lost the Super Bowl, that is the complete and dominant team ever, but they didn't bring the chip home. I don't mind the Fins at 1 and Bears at 2 though, both were dominant teams.

Those 49er teams will always mean so much to me. I moved to San Francisco in 1982 and couldn’t help but fall in love with that team in that city
The 89 Niners (Unstoppable Force) vs 85 Bears (Immovable Object). Here are their three playoff scores:
85 Bears (21-0, 24-0, 46-10)
89 Niners (41-13, 30-3, 55-10)
No other teams have been that dominant in the playoffs.
When it comes down to it...who do you trust more...Montana or Mcmahon...I'm going with Joe every time.

Imagine if the 84 9ers had Jerry Rice...
Total destruction of the league.
They would’ve destroyed the NFL for years. The biggest weakness of that team was lack of a speedster, game breaking WR. With Rice, opposing defenses don’t learn to crowd the box and cut off the medium length passing lanes because Montana to Rice would’ve eaten them alive.
Their position would've been 1 on this list. Simple as that.

I was happy when George Seifert took over as Head Coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 1989 after Bill Walsh retired, but I wished that Walsh would of stayed on as Coach for a couple more seasons.
@Harry Engel Seifert always have the Walsh's shadow over his career, sadly for him.

Don’t forget Seifert was head coach of the 1989 49ers, arguably the best team ever.

The 1984 Niners could have gone 16-0. Their only lost was due to a controversial call against the Steelers.
Psalmist the Steelers that won super bowl 13 needed jackie smith to butter up his hands to win also they lost 2 games. The bears didn’t have a better offense than the Niners. The dolphins played two less games then the 9ers did.
@Psalmist '72 dolphins that all I have to say you can't argue

if the 9ers win that game, they either lose again at some point or don't end up winning the super bowl. losses like those are what catapult teams to super bowl victories.
Stay in the pits, moron
Just like Larry Csonka said, other teams might be viewed as being more talented than the 72 Dolphins, but they lost a game. True perfection is a 0 in the loss and tie columns, and only one team in the Super Bowl Era can say that they accomplished that.
4th and 5th place are 49ers. I can live with that as a 9er.
I would’ve put the 1989 team at #1 and the 1984 team at #3.
The 88 Super Bowl is fav 49er Super Bowl.
The 1984 49ers deserve #2 because they were one BS penalty away from a perfect season, losing one reg season game to the Steelers by 3 pts on a controversial penalty. 1989 49ers #5 1984 49ers #4 I don't think so!

@@lightyagami3492 "ifs" and "buts " were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas....REALITY is another thing...wishing doesn't change what really happened,... live with it and move on... it is what it is... no doubt, New England has great talent and a great team going undefeated in the regular season but the bottom line is.... you have to finish it and the Patriots didn't get the job done... 2X they faced the Giants and lost... you can't LAMENT on those losses because St. Louis, Carolina and Philadelphia could also lament about their losses to the Patriots as well.... either you win or go home.... don't forget to take your hankie
@@pst702 again i said i agree with this list the dolphins and bears are greater by virtue of winning the SB but i could argue the 07 pats were still the best team of all time just got unlucky at the end when it mattered most.
@@lightyagami3492 So its not so much the best team , but rather the most lucky?
