For anyone wondering, yes this facility DOES sell some of their sea turtles for meat. But, this is actually a good thing (you've got to think of the entire picture from a conservationist standpoint). By raising money from meat sales, they are able to fund the captive breeding and release program, which has contributed to over 35,000 sea turtles being released into the wild. Not only does this increase wild populations, but it also greatly decreases the number of wild-caught and killed sea turtles by providing a captive bred alternative!
And I do think that some of the sea turtles are kept in somewhat small enclosures. However, these are temporary, and the turtles only live in them until A) They're big enough to be released, B) They're big enough to be added to the huge breeding pond, or C) They're, well... sold for meat. But again, you need to look at the entire picture.
Hopefully this helps shed some light on the situation for anyone concerned. :)
I never knew turtles could be sold for their meat!! Thats wild
Is it really common in Mexico for sea turtles to be sold as meat? Or is it more of a delicacy?
I still hate it though. 😭😭😭
Mikala G ikr, it makes me wanna vomit.
That’s probably just me but if they aren’t to be kept in captivity and aren’t supposedly
bred to be eaten by humans, I don’t believe they deserve it. Although every animal
doesn’t deserve it.
Snake Discovery they’re so fast
No doubt the best place to work at !
Exotic Lair, Love your Videos man, keep up the great work
I didn’t know you would be watching this channel but I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! You helped me get over my fear of spiders! Plus snakes. How is Pissy doing?
I love your vids too! Turtle breeding is much less violent 😂😂😂
Must be better than being bitten by a living dart (OBT)
Good vids

Lol true 🤣
Emily: *on vacation*
Also Emily: *works on vacation*
She could probably write some of the trip off on taxes.
You are such a natural. You really should continue episodes like this one. Animal planet should dream of a host like you. The way you explain things is awesome! Ps. Cute top!
I liked it too. I also totally agree with Oranges Marmalade, you should be world famous!
She’d make a great host on a tv show!
Does animal planet still...exist? I haven’t seen it in years, and the last time they did it had some weird treehouse building shows on it...
Id actually watch Animal plant a heck of a lot more if she was able to get a spot on it
@@Lauren.E.O I know right it dose have some weird episode but I'm watching it right now lol
I love the little speaking they give to the animals.makes me laugh!😂😂

Iguana- Shhhh don't let the lady see me
That first bitten leaf "ah, toddlers..."

Emily I love how excited you get talking about these animals. You get going really fast and your hands are always going (unless you have a critter in them). You have inspired our family to get a snake this spring. My daughter is turning 10 and really looks up to you. We watch your videos together and it's given us a common topic of interest. Love you and Ed and all your animals too!!
I seriously looked at danger noodles because of her
Amanda Kennelly LoL their channel is the reason I ordered my Ball Python after following her for like 8 months and learning so much! And I still use the videos as a reference if any issues arise.
That's awesome sadly my mom has a phobia of snakes and I can't talk her out of it
"Now rewind and actually listen this time" lol I actually didn't listen the first time and when i realized it i facepalmed
@@bibarel4665 well surprisingly enough to me two years after I made this pointless comment, 112 people. Speaking of pointless comments, look at your comment and maybe don't judge other peoples.

Emily's phone: *_AaAhHhhH ReEeEeEEeeee_*
Emily you are just so gosh darn cute with your eager enthusiasm, and I'm always impressed by your knowledge. I never really found reptiles very interesting in comparison to other lifeforms until I stumbled on your channel. Thanks for sharing your adventures with the rest of us!
I would like but I dont want to ruin the 100....

Of course, you can't breed Turtles without naming some of them Leo, Donny, Ralph and Mikey. Wonder if they have a pet rat as well.
When Emily grabbed the turtle
Turtle:NO! NO! NO! NO!
Turtle:okee...
@chloe the peanut I completely forgot I commented this lol
The shells look like the kind of Early CGI where there is just a flat texture to represent a 3D object. Thats neat.
" now rewind and actually listen "
damn u got me
The younger ones are so cute😂😂 love their ‘flapping’
I love their shell pattern. They're so beautiful!
:''') what a beauty! that shell is AMAZING. edit: i used to catch those curly tailed little guys when i was in florida, they always used to try to bite me.

I absolutely *love* sea turtles!🐢
So excited, happy, and thankful that you shared this video with us. I actually learned some new facts about green sea turtles that I didn't know before.
I do too but I looked up this center and it seems to not always treat its turtles very well: news.nationalgeographic.com/2017/05/wildlife-watch-cayman-turtle-farm-welfare-controversy/
*me, having never had a pet reptile and never plans on getting one in my life*
Holy crepes, new Snake Discovery vid, drop everything!
Emily your phone made me laugh!😆😆😆😆😆
You're the best youtuber!
Edit: and sense of humour.
Emily is so pretty with her hair down. Not that she wasn’t pretty before but we never get to see it.
I love the captions above the animals 😄
Cool!! I want to go there and join you on the trip!
10:15 rooster:well well well who's visiting today I'll just get in their shot
Hey, just catching up on your videos and I wanted to tell you what great work your doing and how fantastic it is watching someone be so excited to share all this information and how helpful it is to have that enthusiasm. A lot of teaching is just getting people interested and if you show that it's something to be enthusiastic about it just draws people in, especially given yours is completely genuine excitement. The other thing I wanted to say is that you've been doing amazing work that you probably don't even know about. I had a couple of friends that had crippling fears of a few types of reptile, both lizards and snakes, and using your videos I helped them overcome that fear. They're by no means wanting to hold either but you've made it where they don't have panic attacks seeing them anymore! Your explanations and showing that they really aren't dangerous creatures as long as you treat and handle them properly has been a great boon and I'm sure more people can attest to that.
So again, thanks for all your fantastic videos and the wonderful and contagious enthusiasm!
Em you look so pretty😄😄 And that place looks amazing, I'd loved to go some day
I agree Emily is glowing! 🙂
She is SUPER cute. And so passionate about animals c:
Thank you so much for sharing your day with us. They are all so beautiful. Unfortunately, you can tell by the beauty of their shells, why items made from their shells became so popular and worked to diminish their species. It is wonderful to hear about their conservation work.
I don’t know what it is about hearing someone talk so passionately about a certain topic, but it’s really relaxing and awe inspiring
I remember noticing this in school. I had a teacher who normally was pretty mediocre, but when we got to a unit on pilgrims, you could tell she had a passion for that particular subject and she suddenly became a significantly better teacher. It was so much more engaging learning from someone who feels passionate about what they're teaching.
13:26 look at the top right! HE IS GETTING AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!
I went on a cruise there and oh my gosh we literally spent our entire day absolutely amazing place to be
Any of the dislikes are from the sardines and squids.
10:10 nothing but ur average chicken (right side) staring into the inner soul of the bushes.
Chicken: dis bush iz noice,oh no! Scary humans that commit murder on us! Run away!!!
Yellow tape around his body it’s a fricking homicide
It’s from a song
I loved Grand Caymen, so wish I had known about this. We did go to turtle beach which was cool, though! I think it was roughly in the same area.
I got there and saw one almost immediately. I got to snorkel with it in the wild and all.
13:25 “hey, I’ll just be chillin in the back corner...”
Here there is a very rare species and they only come out once a year or once every two year on video
It’s called Emily with her hair down the only time we see her with her hair down is in videos where she talks about something after taking a shower but the only people who see Emily with her hair down more often is her family. (I hope I did not copy someone cause I haven’t seen a comment like this.)
Omg I went there for vacation before! It's such a non popular island more people should know about! We went to Grand Cayman and went to their turtle place too! Yes we did have some turtle meat... but it was very cool to see the live turtles there!
It was cool because we even got to hold some!!
I loved the different sections they had, including the breeding beach/laying place, the place to watch them and hold them, and the education center and incubation area! It was so cool to watch them hatch and stuff!
Omg and when they start flapping!
You should visit the sea turtle rescue center at South Padre, Texas. It's really neat and they rehab turtles that have been hurt or stranded for one reason or another. They even help sea turtles that can no longer live in the wild, for various reasons. One of there turtles is missing 3 of there flippers.
I don’t usually notice stuff like this, but I LOVE that shirt, Emily! I’m a sucker for blue and white patterns. :)
When i went to Costa Rica a couple years ago we went on a night walk and got to see a green sea turtle laying eggs!! We made sure to stay a good distance and to only use red light to see but it was super cool!
You guys are great people, a loving couple, and I really am so grateful I found your channel! Its funny how people on a screen who share their passion & life with you,can mean so much to your life and you guys don't even know me! I hope to meet you both one day & thank you for all you guys do!
Loving all your videos and you're such a natural at teaching about wildlife. You and Ed are the type of people we need more of in the world both for animals and people. Totally the best, wholesome thing that youtube has got. And you look good with your hair down.
Yesss! A new video! Love your channel so much it’s helped me learn so much thank you!
Idk if it's too much for you guys, but if it's possible could you include metric units such as Celsius and centimeters.
I went to this exact place a few years ago when I was on a cruise with my family!! Gorgeous place and amazing thing they are doing!!
Those turtle shells are the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen. Thanks Emily and Ed for sharing your vacation. Pat
Oh my god I've been there!! I got a surge of nostalgia when the video started
10:17 just your everyday background chicken
I swam with a green sea 🐢 in the ocean! I was snorkeling, and it joined me for quite awhile. I will never forget that experience! Ty for the additional knowledge you have shared!
OMG I was there just two weeks after! It was an amazing experience, and it’s good seeing it from a different point of view!
Lol I love how the animals talk 😂
I'm so mad. I was there on a cruise once. Never knew this was there. I might have missed the boat and asked if they needed help 😶
This was such a great video. Thanks Ed and Emily! Once in Mexico, I did an excursion where we got baby sea turtles and put them down, about 15 feet from the water and watched them go in. It was beautiful.
love your outfit emily!

Their shells are absolutely _gorgeous!_ It looks like they've been lacquered- including the ones that aren't even wet.
It looks like you guys had a good time, thank you for sharing it with us!
My wife and I went there when we were on a cruise!! It was truly amazing!
i went to the caymans last summer and i went to that exact place. its amazing! its so cool seeing her stand in the exact spot i was!
11:28 Is my favorite part of this video!
Emily's phone had a stroke😂😂😂
I'm glad you guys had some time to take a vacation! While watching these videos I've gotten curious as to how you prepare your animal sitter when your away. I would love to see a video on that! Given I just have 2 dogs, but it is so hard to find a reliable person/kennel if we don't take them with us (which we usually end up doing)
This is one of my favorite places ever!!! Their snorkeling lagoon was one of the coolest things ever
The curly tailed lizards are cool looking!
Theirs a famous turtle center?!?
How was I not aware
😆
Oh my gosh I about cried when I saw this! They are so CUTE!!!!!
I love pickle Rick. Lol you 2 are the best! Also I love your video's! You have truly turned me into a reptile LOVER! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOURSELVES WITH US!💜🐢🦎🐍💜
hey i got to snorkel with the sea turtles when i was there on my cruise!
For some reason the 'phone freaking out underwater' clip just is absolutely hilarious to me. Your phone was just so excited to be underwater it couldn't handle itself XD That said, wonderful video, and you've given me someplace I'd like to visit one day! Thank you!
I spent a good chunk of my childhood in Grand Cayman, I’ve been to the Turtle Center several times but what’s really cool is Stingray City (even though they’re not reptiles)
OMG I LOVE SEA TURTLES And just turtles and animals in general!
Snake Discovery is the best!

I love snakes 🐍
Me too but this video is about turtles
Love your videos❤️❤️
I love this place, and have been several times. I also like the gardens at the other end of the island where they breed blue iguana's (and if you have a good eye you can spot the native snake). Plus sting ray city, and the scuba diving. It is one of my favourite places to go.
Definitely going to have to one day visit just to go to this place. Absolutely love sea turtles
the clips from emilys phone made me laugh so hard! 🤣
Glad you love the island i call home❤❤❤🇰🇾🇰🇾🇰🇾
Wow, I really love the ocean and this video was so much fun. Emily is a natural educator! I've been to Grand Camen, though we did a submarine tour and visited the barrier reef around the island.
This is amazing! Thanks for filming on your vacation!
Could you do more stuff with the cuban fasle chameleon plz. I think they are sooooo cool. Like a thorough tank set up. Or for another feed my pet friday. Plz. The false chameleon is my fav reptile.
