The post office deliberately broke this man and his wife. Its utterly disgusting.
She was pregnant when they sent her to jail?! On her child's birthday? She gave birth wearing an ankle monitor?
That is disgusting cruelty, even if she was guilty. Why not suspend the sentence? She didn't kill anyone!
For God's sake pay those people!! That is unimaginable trauma caused by someone else's incompetence. This is horrific, I'm heartbroken for her.
They do not care. They look at those people from a different level, sitting down in their imperialistic chair.
When you convict over 700 people for YOUR failings an apology is not good enough. The contempt and disregard shown to people with impunity and unaccountability is beyond apology. You had sufficient time to consider this is wrong and yet you continued to prosecute innocent people.
Sorry for what? Getting caught? The shame?
There can be no sincere apology for destroying people's lives on such a grand scale.
This is nothing to do with failings. You can have the best will dedication and intent in the world and still fail. This was done knowingly
The postmaster should be punished no apology should be accepted at any cost.
The people jailed should be compensated and the combined sentences of those wrongfully sentenced when those in charge knew should be combined and handed down to those who were in charge. To watch people’s lives be destroyed because you don’t want to own mistakes is unacceptable. If those in charge don’t end up in jail, when other have already served time, then you know that the system cares only about one group of people and will tread on all others. I wonder what will happen going forward.
I can understand the benefit of putting people in “the stocks.”
This is heart breaking. No apology will bring back those 13 yrs. David Smith needs to serve jail time.
An Apology if Fine For Forgetting Someones NAME .....An Apology is Fine for Being LATE ...An Apology for being Responsible for Ruining 900 Peoples Lives is a JOKE ,& Worthless
This man needs jailed. The public demand justice!
Why is he not in jail yet??? He ruined so many lives!
He will never be in jail because they do not care for brown skin people. Period
To think of a 10-years-old kid coming back home to realize that he won't see his mom for a long time because she was sent to jail... It breaks my heart. Anyone who knew that there was a problem with Horizon and covered it up, helping to send that kid's innocent mom to jail, should be put in jail themselves.
The arrogance of it!!!
He thinks he's just having a meeting
He can’t even sit up straight to answer these questions with any kind of respect for the gravity of the situation
This guy is absolutely spot on the leaders of the Post Office should beg for forgiveness and pay the compensation that is required immediately!
Of course an apology is not enough - life in prison with no parole is the sole way the people involved can "apologise".
David Smith the least you can do is to sit straight when you give your half-hearted apology. yet you can't even do that. Here you are pretending to care what these people may have gone through
The scene were he is walking down the street he displays an air of arrogance, if it were me I would be thoroughly ashamed of myself, if I was making a sincere apology I would stand up on my two feet and stand to attention. As you say he could not even sit straight, ill mannered.
Yes I noticed his posture.
So twisted that he cant even sit straight
@@benwilson6145 Maybe very confident and relaxed.
He doesn’t care at all. They look at these people like they are still in India.
He couldn’t care less, doesn’t affect him in the slightest.
He got his bonuses years ago and as he handled the "troublesome postmasters" surely good words out of it too.
Exactly
Mr and Mrs Misra , I am so sorry this happened to you and your family and others. Here is hoping that justice will be served , my prayer is that you and your family get the peace of mind and heart that you need. I send you my warmest greetings.
Yes to this 🙏🏼
It MAY have caused substantial upset . What kind of apology is that . Of course it caused upset . Just jail the lot of them & take their assets.
Why are this people not jailed where is the justice
There is NO JUSTICE… never was…never will be.
This is how THESE people view us peasents as the sh*t at the bottom of their shoes.A despicable excuse for a human being, make him pay back his bonuses and take his pension.
EXACTLY! Someone is getting it. Thank you! People need to have a hard awakening to understand.
It’s totally horrific. When he goes to prison it will be brilliant news.
That will never happen
What a weazel .
He can't take responsibility for his actions.
I’m not one for punitive justice, but there are a lot of people in this equation who need to go to prison for a long time.
They knowingly sent innocent people to prison.
This is the most flippant insincere apology I have heard.
All the people in charge need to pay the people affected by this. They need to pay seriously substantial amounts.
"it may have" what a fool!
He apologised for the "perception" not the reality.
How can anyone think an apology in a public enquiry where he says “may have caused offence” is enough for being sent to prison for 4 months, is enough? What planet do these people live on, it’s bizarre!!
Not the same as the rest of ordinary people (peasants)
people should be in jail for this . A grave miscarriage of Justice.
They all just lie.....What is wrong with these people.......He will say anything to get out of it.......He looks very nervous.....Looks GUILTY..
NO WAY NOT ENOUGH
This family’s pain is palpable
An apology is just a bunch of words. It accomplishes nothing. They need to go to jail.
That it may of caused?? The man needs jailing
No apology
Just sentence, fine and name shame
David Smith that's a name to remember along with Paula Vennells I wonder if "a bit of an upset " will be the emotion David Smith will feel when he has to answer for his actions in a Court of Law
if there had not been an Enquiry, there would be no apology, only arrogant indifference. They bragged about the imprisonment of an innocent, pregnant mum. Disgraceful. They can apologise by serving time.
I'm SICK of hearing the word "robust".
That was not an apology. It was said to make himself look good.
David smith needs to be jailed
Police the public want this evil in jail immediately
This govt has awarded Fujitsu a new contract
The government are complicit I guarantee you, same with the national lottery it's a stealth tax , they will never reveal these people who become millionaires each week because of the anonymous rule , but I guarantee they don't exist, these so called millionaire jackpot winner's don't exist the ones they allow to win is marketing and every business has to spend on marketing to attract customers, the national lottery has created over 1000s of millionaires , I call that a lie , more like 40 people since it began
This is how they do it , imagine someones numbers come up the system will then ignore that winner and disperse the winnings to as many people they can so lucky dips and the low tier prizes , and maybe sometimes they might go into the red , but they for sure will not create a millionaire , and some weeks they are in the green and sometimes in the red ,
Do you see what I'm getting at
They should be send to prison for this! 2 million pounds
The emotion in that husbands voice
Love the way Jo is giving him the eye.
I would say a knock on the door at 3 o'clock in the morning for a trip to the woods is appropriate for some of these post office bosses
Sounds good lead on
Definitely
Why are the Royals who own the post office not being held to account for this?
They don't own the Post Office, it is owned and controlled by the government of the U.K.! Regards, Brent Collins.
His body language looks bad.
There is no way he would not have known what was going on given the expenditure and where all the money they recieved from deception where was that entered.
Fujitsu and PO knew in the 1999 trial run of 300 post offices found glitches but started prosecuting.
While that continued for 16 years more so it looks like PO management knew they had got it wrong and kept covering up to keep the Post Offices reputation intact.
The amounts of money required to push prosecutions would have needed approval at the highest levels which would have to be scrutinized.
Smith just threw all his subordinates under the bus they did all this for years and years and no one up the ladder new a thing.
FUJITSU a Japanese company are expert's at covering up scandals as well.
In Japan corporates coverup scandals just like they have done in collusion with the PO.
Between management of both companies should be bankrupted to pay for the fraud they participated in.
Why should white collar criminals involved in a conspiracy defraud 100's of innocent people be given special treatment when completely innocent people had their lives and families completely ruined.
Smith walking around can't look anyone straight in the face.
Had to read his apology from a piece of paper which was more about negating his responsibility than a heart felt apology even his pathetic apology May have caused ffs it ruined peoples lives.
And you knew something.
Utterly Sickening 🤢 🤮 This is NOT an apology. It is a smoke screen of repentance. In fact what he is attempting is to EXONERATE HIMSELF by alleging he had not been given the 'right shade of light' in which to examine facts and persons involved. There is even a hint that the real victims' fate has been over represented and dramatised.
The hypocrisy of his statement should be deconstructed and exposed point by point and he should spend much custodial time thinking about it.
Time maybe heals, but the PO execs should be doing time. 20 plus years and counting for justice is justice denied.
I would like to be a fly on the walls in the houses of all those responsible for this terrible scandal.
Let them squirm a little bit longer, fearing the Lawyers for the SPM’s, the enquiry, hopefully an arrest followed by court and prison time.
Surely after all that has been revealed, they don’t think they are above the law.
He apologised "for the way this has been perceived and portrayed subsequently", not for what happened at the time. "It may have caused upset", he lounged. This man is truly excellent at insincerity.
Perhaps karma that timeless mistress of fate is now beginning to show her hand in this dire matter, lets hope so for all those involved.
Poor woman jailed while expecting unforgivable .
He essentially said "I'm sorry you feel that way"...
Watch his face and tightening of the lips when she has a go at him !!!
here we go already an apology that should be na 25 years stretch
It’s absolutely disgusting to imprison her. Not only wrongly accused but the horrible attitude. It’s a shameful coverup. People need to go to jail for this!!
David Smith and rest all were involved in the coverup should be jailed Period
These people can/ should be locked up to await their trial
I was remanded to prison because of a mental health emergengy...
After 5 years of fighting i recieved a little over £6 thousand compensation.
The people who caused the imprisonment of innocent people FOR PROFIT...
Should be held on remand until THEIR TRIAL.
The corruption that went on is disgusting. Some heads need to roll, but I won't hold my breath.
Absolutely abhorrent individuals in charge.
A mealy mouthed excuse of an apology
Somebody has to serve time for this
No, an apology is NOT enough!!
Channel 4 please, please, please, keep reporting on this until the very end. This is a scandalously criminal case! Post Office obfuscate and eveigle. So many lives were destroyed! 😔😓
That poor family. :(
We need to see Post Office executives and their lying lawyers and investigators serving jail time for this and heavy compensation for their victims and the families of lost victims.
...."may have caused substantial, uhhh, upset"...probably sums up the mindset of the PO management, still to this day. And I'm from the other side of the world!! MM New Zealand.
Forget an apology, they need to be in prison.
I have SEEN no reports of HOW MANY MILLIONS Fujitsu received from the POST OFFICE for a system that FAILED to work correctly and was PATENTLY INSECURE from the START !!
He should be apologizing from a prison cell. ALL of these monsters need to see time in jail
David Smith needs to be held to account. His dismissal of any responsibility is not acceptable.
Ah now he is an example to us all that he can see through the eyes of the victims and realize they maybe "upset"...... freaking unbelieveable.
Surely these people are going to get charged for something? Sued too?
They have DESTROYED people's lives due to their incompetence & just utter contempt for these people.
You have to wonder what his neighbour's think of David Smith maybe they all give him a pat on the back when he returns home after a busy day at the Inquiry slouching in his chair
It MAY have caused upset, it did , not MAY have
Their should be no greater crime that false jailing ppl. Its kidnappings and torture.
Does he call that an apology? He should serve jail time. Compensate the poor, honest people who's lives they ruined...now.
They need to be in prison it’s a disgrace
This is theatre for the public. There will be no consequences.
They should be prosecuted for fraud, contempt of court, kidnapping
This couple are so wonderful and passionate; such a tragedy to happen to such incredible people.
That man is a sociopath he feels nothing apart from annoyance at being caught out he can mimic emotions and contrition but does not feel any off them
Cover up is a massive understatement 😢 they all knew what they were doing was wrong
he didn't apologize! because he's not sorry!!!! he said he is sorry if distress was caused by how the situation was portrayed subsquently!!! that is in no way shape or form an apology for what he and his team did to a pregnant innocent woman and her family!!!!!! how anyone could categorize his words as an apology I don't know!!!
Isn't it interesting that when innocent people are arrested and falsely charged, the people who knew what was happening get away with it and don't even get thrown in jail. If an ordinary person perverted the course of justice they would be thrown in jail.
Is an apology enough 😂😂😂
These people do not care at the slightest. They look at them as something lesser than a human… period. History repeats itself.
Would there be an apology if the evidence wasn’t stacking up against them? No.
Should any apology therefore be accepted? That’s down to the post masters who would most likely, show more compassion than they have been shown by the post office bosses.
Good luck lady postmaster. Your a star
He sounds insincere and unrepentant, hiding behind weasel words.
Tar and feather … tar and feather …
So they thought 700 people all suddenly stole money?
Not convinced by any of these arguments on either side! It's only taxpayers money, ain't it!
OT: Someone should tell that "journalist" at the back of the room that's an absolute disgrace that he's turned up for this hearing wearing a football shirt.
Don‘t shame people for no good reason.
In Japan, Directors and CEO's that make errors like this are publicly humiliated, they get on stage crying with many deep bows, prostrating themselves before the public for their failure and shame. This bunch couldn't give two shits.
Bit to late for apology. The only apology this can lead is that it wasn't resolved sooner.
Perceived and portrayed, like it was a made for tv drama. Oh wait, it was made in to a tv drama, based on real events. Shameful, miserable man. If this woman went to prison, so should you.
Mr Smith sure looks heartbroken. Did someone thearthen to reduce his bonus this time?
Yes it is
If I dont pay my tv liscence I go to jail. These scumbags got innocent people jailed & ruined lives, yet no one even has been in court; at all.
Justice doesnt exist for the regular people of this country 😡
No
