If you think F40's are still epic today for their age...imagine how we felt as teenagers in the 80's when these came out. Imagine it being like a Koenigsegg Agera R back then and the next fastest car was an Aventador. There was no internet or social media to see them they were like mythical unicorns no one ever saw but we all had posters on our walls...

You're spot on. We didn't have RUclips to get supercar overload, you occasionally saw these things in magazines. If you wanted to see them in person you needed to go to the motor show.
If you saw one on the road, in the wild, it was reason to scream and wave out the window

The first time I saw one in the flesh, was at the 1990 Le Mans 24hr. It was in the Maison Blanche campsite parked next to a monster 7.0 Lister Jaguar XJS and between the two car was two, 2 man tents with about 10 crates of empty dumpy beer bottles stacked in a beer mountain.

@@abb05 ...But most of the people are simply not.
I own an drive a few cars, but when i drive a mid or rear-engine car, i treat it with much more respect. They are very spiky to drift- you can get them easily into oversteering, but its REALLY hard to controll the drift and i am not even mentioning doing a full circle. One Mistake and you turn yourself.
I was also looking for a F40, but didnt pay attention to the prices of the F40 for a few years. Last "number" I had in my head was like 1mio Euro for a decent one - cancle this, now they want around 50% more for a good one.

It is pathetic that so many cars have become this. Old muscle cars, old truck and Jeeps that wouldn't sell for $3,000 just 4 years ago are going for $20,000 - $30,000.
Obviously, Ferraris and exotics are in a completely different class, but the trend has bled into anything that can be marketed as "classic" (even when it isn't). Grampa has an old 1985 2wd F150 that he only drove 65k miles? Well guess what, it's worth $25,000 today. Why? Just cause
Cars have been turned into investments. Especially for exotics. Just like "modern art", they are used by rich, yuppy elites who don't give 2 craps about what they are buying. They aren't enthusiasts. They aren't mechanical. It's just understood that if they buy and sell to each other, they can make a lot of money and avoid taxes.

Although still super cool, it's not a real LM, you can easily tell for the lack of the giant opening on the hood, and also of the divider on the rear grille underneath the central support of the wing. Another giveaway is the lack of a third NACA duct on the side, as it should have one on the sideskirts. So it's a normal F40 with a LM style headlights and rear wing, plus a custom roof scoop.
