    Ha I was close. I said everything the 7 or 8 foot. Kinda hedged my bet. I knew it was going to be bigger than the Pragmatic Reef though. I wanted this tank but went custom and a foot shorter. My tank is in my basement and the tank would have fit but not the stand. I contacted WaterBox and I could not get the stand unassembled or even partially assembled so I went custom and had a custom stand made so I could put it together myself. I know you must be excited. I also know when you got it up there in the back of your mind you were like what did I do. Video does not do it justice. You have to see it sitting in your house to understand how big it actually is. So happy gor you. It's gonna be awesome.

    Congrats - Beautiful aquarium. Just one bit of advice for you. I ran my tanks 110g and smaller and always had easily controlled nutrients and figured my 400g bare bottom would be the same. Wrong, Now I am carbon dosing with Vinegar and using LC for PO. I wish I had started using this right away before letting my nutrients get to of the charts high but you live and you learn. Larger tanks = more food, bigger inverts, bigger fish, and less flow and water change inputs than smaller reefs. I had zero algae yet my Nutrients went of the charts and set me back awhile. So do everything possible from the start to control nutrients early on and not wait a few months bc they go up super quick compared to smaller reefs.

    Your video gives the impression that this change is quite significant, almost as if it's a daunting challenge for you. However, from my perspective, it appears you're essentially just doubling the volume. Given that you've previously maintained fantastic-looking reefs, you clearly understand how to manage them successfully. What specifically concerns you about this change?

    • @TreasureCorals
      @TreasureCorals  7 месяцев назад +1

      Well said, I think daunting is a good way to describe how I feel about it sometimes. I have always found that things in saltwater scale linearly - double the volume means double of everything. But if things were to go wrong, disaster on this tank will be a lot more consequential than when a 20 gallon tank has an issue. But hey, bold moves are needed sometimes in life.

    It’s going to be incredible! I’d like to cast a vote for lots of medium & large tangs and angelfish. Heavy nutrients in and out. Lots of small fish could be cool, but I don’t know if it’s possible to execute it well. Tons of small fish swimming around… kind of seems like it will be hard for anything to stand out. And I think a lot of people imagine a big school or two of small fish. Would be awesome in theory, but 1) usually these fish pick eachother off one-by-one and 2) while you can see actual schooling behavior with baby chromis, I have looked all over youtube and I can’t find any large groups of adult chromis, anthias, firefish, etc schooling where they swim in the same direction and change direction together. It just doesn’t exist in an aquarium to my knowledge. Plenty of videos of them swarming together but those are always feeding videos, which does not count as schooling in my opinion. Another thing, a lot of smaller fish tend to be the more timid/peaceful type and there’s a decent chance that if you end up moving into more assertive fish, many of the peaceful fish may not do well. I’m sure you have enough experience to pull it off, but managing algae without tangs could be brutal. Excited for whatever you choose to do with it!
    As for the rock scape, that’s a tough decision. Did you rule out a bare bottom tank? I would put some serious thought into that especially if you go with the heavy bio load with heavy nutrients in and out. With bare bottom, you can put those power heads right on the bottom of the tank a keep detritus suspended and headed into filtration.

    • @TreasureCorals
      @TreasureCorals  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks Tim, very good points and they come in handy. I think a group of anthias and/or chromis will look great, but angelfish and tangs - that I really am excited about, so definitely will be there.
      Barebottom is not an option for me, I want to have wrasses and I love love love the look of sand, so higher nutrients is totally fine.
