IT is the same by the blond girl... 3:02 it is in the middle of the book, and at 3:22 it is rather the end part... maybe she had changed the page before she chose a word, it canb e possible, the the video was cut :)
I got so frustrated when people say "magic is fake, therefore I hate it." Yeah no shit it's fake. So are movies (batman isn't real guys), but it's art. You should enjoy it as a performance.
It's not that it's fake. All magic is fake, but there's a huge difference between very talented sleight of hand tricks and just setting something up beforehand and then claiming you didn't. This "trick" requires virtually no skill outside of just a little acting.
I think even in the 1800's they would have seen how fake this was. But then you accidently check your iPhone to see what time it is and get burned at the stake anyway.
The 'Book Test' is one of my favorite illusions because it's one that you know can't be real, but at the same time you watch it happen and it's *very* difficult to come up with an elegant enough explanation for it if you don't know the secret. I've seen many variations on this illusion with different reveals at the end and all, but Dan White's version here was just fantastic. I love the addition of the dictionary and using the "code." It's brilliant in its simplicity, it was very elegant, and none of it seemed clunky at all. Surprisingly, a basic 'Book Test' is relatively easy to learn and to do, but the surprise on Jimmy's face here was legitimate and I don't believe at all that he was in on it. Very impressive. This is, by far, the best variation of the 'Book Test' I've ever seen.
i think he meant sole which makes sense, and gives a reason why, putting together with the given context, jimmy could've had a hunch about his shoe hence looking down
Robert Tapalaga You might've found a tutorial for 'a' book test on RUclips, but you didn't find 'this' book test on RUclips. What you're talking about- a basic, simple book test, should almost be considered a completely different thing from this book test. Most book tests require one of two things: a set of instructions for picking the word that are very restrictive and alert people to the fact that it's a force, or an altered book, probably one nobody's ever heard of. This one is different because it uses books that people have heard of and the word selection part feels as open and free and unrestricted as it possibly can. No RUclips tutorial is going to teach this trick because you won't have the right book to do it with. For this version you're gonna have to go to www.scamstuff.com/products/brian-brushwood-book-test and shell out -1200 bucks- *$700* because only 500 sets will ever be made. This is on another level from what you looked at. This is the kind of thing a world-famous magician would purchase for use in appearances on TV specials. This isn't your average RUclips tutorial, 'Ford-Pinto-version' of the book test. This is the '2019-Lamborghini-Aventador-Performante-version' of the book test.
Read more for genuine reveal. The first effect is done with a trick card. The page had already been ripped out and planted in Jimmy's shoe before the show. The playing card had a secret paper on it resembling the corner of the page which could be stuck anywhere in the book to reveal the false page. From then on it's just a matter of acting and selling the trick. 1:37 See how he holds his hand to cover the gap between the false paper and the rest of the book. As for the Harry Potter trick, it is an effect called Book Test created and sold by Brian Brushwood. The book is gimmicked to have certain repeating long words places on every page of the book. Since he sells the effect on his websites, I don't want to give away the entire thing. But I'll leave it at the fact that the magician only needs a small amount of information to know the word, and he would have only had to memorize a few different dictionary pages. Hope this helps!
Dan White makes his living as a magician. He would never "stage" it on live TV and risk exposure. I know for a fact that the audience member wasn't in on it and can think of a way or two that the page can end up in Jimmy's shoe without his knowledge. No sense saying it's fake- it's magic. Obviously, it's not "real". But it was entertaining.
Ummmm, because he is a magician as well? These are common tricks, hard as hell, but common. We've all seen them many many times, hell last year during a competition I saw 7 or so versions of this same effect lol. He's right, this is all legit and no one was in on it.
Weakest argument ever. He is risking nothing by staging a fake trick, only Jimmy needs to be in on the trick, which he clearly is. The woman is holding a trick book without her knowledge, and the member of the Roots is just opening up to the page he is told.
You are being gullible Rick Pompa. Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller has said that more often than not, when an audience member is chosen "at random", it is a stooge. That would take care of half the trick. White knows the word and knows the page # etc. of the dictionary. This wouldn't work here, but I've heard that when someone is chosen from far back in the audience, when an usher leads the person down the aisle or backstage first, they are often asked to go along with the gag and say a certain word when asked to think of a word or a card.
@@BGlasnost Yes, I didn't think Jimmy acted amazement very well. There's another video where a trick is done on some of his band members, and those guys go out of their minds.
Probably because it's a doctored book with the word "halfheartedly" standing out on every page. But by using someone who's read the book, it sells the idea that it's the actual book you'd buy in the store.
If the girl really had freedom on the word then why the HP book and why did he only mention "real word" at 3:23 after she's picked her word when it's natural for an "HP fan" to pick any of the magic words. Seems like she knew beforehand that she has to pick a real word.
@@cheesecakelasagna "real word" - that could be a legit instruction that he wants a word that will (ultimately) be in the dictionary and not the name of a character.

A few things: There is an editing slip-up at 6:32 (Dan White's hand jumps from outstretched to his chest instantaneously; whatever happened in between the cut likely reveals the shoe trick/set up); The page in Neil P. Harris' book is in a different spot at the end than in the beginning of the trick; The word "half-heartedly" is not found in The Goblet of Fire, though it is in the Prisoner of Azkaban (this takes away from realism more than it affects the trick at all); If Dan accounted for all these things (which he totally could), this would be an awesome trick!
Honestly, I love this trick, I love magic, I love the Tonight show and I love Dan White,...BUT I feel like the only way this could happen is that the trick was rigged!😂😂😂
SPOILER: This is how he did the trick with the book that Jimmy had. He used two of the same book to do this trick. In the book that Jimmy has he had ripped the page out before the show and put it in Jimmys shoe. He then used the same page from a replicate book and cut out the top left corner, and taped one end of it to the back of the card. When Jimmy “picked” a page, no matter what page it was, he folded the card back with the rest of the book, but kept the part of the page he kept on the card on the front of the page that Jimmy really picked, making it look like he picked that page, and the whole time that page wasn’t really there
sPOilEr!!! That’s not even how the trick works. It’s an old mentalist trick. He has a coin inside the book on the page he wants to force. Try this yourself. Put a coin in the middle of your book and thumb through the pages and it will always stop on the page the coin is at. He just thumbs through the pages until Jimmy says stop and he speeds up to reach where the coin is so it automatically stops riffling through on to the page he wanted to force. The page that is ripped out is at the back of the book. Have a look for yourself. The page Jimmy picked was in the middle and the page that was ripped out is at the back. That’s because the book is set up to have page 272 in the middle along with pages such as 100 etc. that way when Jimmy looks for that page again, he’s looking in a total different area from where the original page he saw is.
Omkar Patil pretty sure it was part of the trick. He may have somehow slipped the paper in while he was handing him the knife. I'd like to have seen Jimmy find it with his back turned to the magician 😜
He said that it could've been anywhere if jimmy had picked a different word instead of sole. But if he didn't know what word he would pick why did he have the sole tool?
Why does everyone need to point out that it is fake. OF COURSE it's fake. We all know it's just a trick but we still don't understand how the heck he did that. That is the point.
It was rigged. He asked for an audience member that had READ the book. That's how Jimmy knew to pick the woman in an isle seat wearing all RED. And the paper in the shoe was not even possible unless rigged.
ok. So here are my observations: 1) At 1:39, that card is in the middle area of the entire book. Toward the end, the ripped page looks closer to the end of the book. 2) 1:39. On the bottom of the right (odd) page (I assume this is page 273), there is a space before the new paragraph. 3) That space and paragraph disappear at 7:31. BUT!.... 4) When the page is replaced, the paragraph and space are there on the ripped page...if it is actually the same one page we saw earlier 5) SO.... there are two scenarios here.... A) The original page Jimmy was looking at was 270 on leaf 269/270; this would put the new paragraph on page 271 of leaf 271/272 (odd, right page)....this was eventually ripped out. Therefore Jimmy said the WRONG PAGE... OR... B) That was not even the page at all. For some reason, the location of the ripped page looked further toward the end of the book than where the card sat earlier.
True! Although with the mind reading thing - some people can do that - they're just really good at looking at the way the mouth is pursed & body language
I love everyone saying this is nothing compared to David Blaine. Like what just because of David Blaine no one else can do magic. So I guess I can't sit down and watch a game with James Harden playing because Lebron James exists.
its the card, the page is attached to card, the king of hearts is printed other end of the page so when when we look from the back it just looks like a normal card,so whatever jimmy picks he will pick pg 272.
it's staged as in he set up for the trick. 1. he made the card stop at his page of choice. 2. that page of choice was around the middle of the book, but in the end, it's near the end of the book. so obviously his page of choice was page 272 and it was printed somewhere random In the book so later on, when he flipped to 272, it would look like it was the page he read earlier. 3. Each page in the Harry Potter book as one large word, which is halfheartedly. OR the book was rigged so if anyone was to open to a random page, it would open to the page where there is maybe 4-5 large words that he can easily memorize the page in the dictionary of those 4-5. 5. 272 was planted in his shoe by the magician before he Jimmy put them on. How else would the word be sole??
Joshiejx he had the page prob nubbed or something with his finger so he knew what page he was flipping to when Jimmy put the card in. No matter when Jimmy said "stop" he woulda just made sure the card stopped at that page
spoilers. I'm here after watching the reveal video (search 2017 fallon reveal) and it's a blast watching this unfold! the whole trick stems from that playing card... like why on earth is he using a random card riffle through a book? the other trick is the goblet of fire book, there were only 500 of those books made, sold for $1200 a pop. Really fun stuff. Basically just memorization, but the showmanship is what sells it!
Well this wasn't all staged. When he riffles through the book with the card, the card itself is a gimmick. It has a piece of page no. 272 sticked behind it. So wherever he stops page 272 will pop up anytime.
Hardik Tara or it's just a cover up for the "force" of the page with the first word "sole". If it were a real selection he'd just let him choose any word without needing a book. But it could be a gimmicked card too
Hardik Tara pleased I figured it out b4 seeing your answer. His clumsy separation and realignment of the split apart card at 1:25 and the following coincidentally card-sized death grip on the top corner of the book confirms it.
the card opened a fake page wich the magician already knew the word. the 272 page was already ripped and on jimmy's shoe the harry potter book have the same 2 pages on the entire book and the only big word is half-hearted.
You don't need any magic trick to blow Jimmy's mind. His mind will self implode at least 50 times regardless who is in front of him during the taping of his show.
What if the lady chose a House name (Gryffindor or Slytherin...) or Character name (Dumbledore or Hermione...) from Harry Potter? Does that dictionary include these words?
cause it's a fake book with all small words, and one big word that she will have to notice, it's probably the only big long word on the page. every page of the book is probably like that.
That part didn't matter, though. She could have chosen any word, the guy is using an earpiece that tells him from a database what page the word is in the dictionary. He just needs about 10-15 seconds for his helper to type the word into the database and relay the answer to him.
explain the second part of the trick then? when she has the freedom to choose absolutely ANY word in the entire harry potter book. Must have been a plant
KingRockets I watched a video on how to do this and you definitely don't need another person for this, it just is supposed to make people feel even more surprised than the trick made them. RUclips channel named card shuffler 99 showed how to do the trick (you could just look up how to do the trick, it's not original)
I don't reveal magic because it's against my ethics. Watch the clip again, are you sure she had the freedome to choose "ANY" word as you put it. I won't give anything away but about that Harry Potter book, looks can be deceiving. That's all I will say for now to prove that there were no plants for this performance.
False front on the playing card so when lined up correctly with the page it pulls apart showing the false page number and presumably a few words making it appear to be a real page. You can tell by how he held the book with 4 fingers to cover the bottom of the false piece of paper, and how he had his thumb placed perfectly to avoid opening the book too far. The female in the audience was a part of his act. Perfectly placed, and stood out just enough to grab the average persons (Jimmy) attention. I had no doubt he was going to pick her before he even got to her. The dictionary was just for added effect. Which is why it didn't matter who Jimmy gave the dictionary to. The outcome would've been the same regardless. With the shoes, it's simple. Jimmy almost always wears the same shoes. It's just a matter of having a matching pair prepped and ready, then making the swap before he gets dressed.
For anyone who thinks it's not pre-staged....look at how much is left behind "page 272" when the card is placed and how much less there is when Jimmy opens it at the end. Still a well orchestrated trick though, very smooth delivery
The great "magic" of television and prerecorded shows is that you can also cut and edit out to make the illusions work. It's still a great trick thought.
how its done. step one , nph's book. you force the riffle (any time a magician asked you to tell him when to stop a riffle, rather then you riffle your self, he is forcing the riffle ) this means no matter when you say stop he will stop in a predetermined place. now you notice in the video , dan white does not open the book up all the way, this is because the page is already ripped. when he clloses the boo and removes the card he folds the page quick and you can actually spot him pocket the page. now this trick requires pre set up . he had to "load a replicant page" into jimmys shoe. this is something magicians do all the time in some ones pocket or personal belongings. now for the harry potter book. this could be done one of a few ways . one the pages are fake and written so half heartedly is on most pages. or he memorizes large words in the book and their corresponding pages in the dictionary. this is way harder to do but I have seen some people do it. it is a fairly popular trick. so most likely they are fake pages. neither jimmy nor the auidence member are in on it. best way to know an audience member is in on it is if either the magician picks them him self or picks by seat number .
Guys stop calling it fake, MAGIC is FAKE there are no real wizards it's art and please learn to respect what he did. His act was pretty good A good comment won't hurt Adios

That’s because the book is set up to have page 272 in the middle along with pages such as 100 etc. that way when Jimmy looks for that page again, he’s looking in a total different area from where the original page he saw is.
While everyone is looking at book, this dude sneaking some paper in Jimmy's shoe
1:44 and 6:06 Crearly not the same page
he whispered soul to him.
Anyone else recognize Brian Brushwood's book test.
I was understanding everything that was going until the paper came out of his shoe ... LIKE WHAT?!? Amazing stuff!!!
The whole time the word I was thinking was "staged"
its a fucking show. enjoy it
GET INVOLVED DUDE
😂
That may well have been a milestone for me and my opinion of Jimmy Fallon's antics. lol
Mark the time for once in your life.
Does he always carry that thing to remove the sole from a shoe?
Omkar Patil pretty sure it was part of the trick. He may have somehow slipped the paper in while he was handing him the knife. I'd like to have seen Jimmy find it with his back turned to the magician 😜
Omkar's point is that Dan already knew the word would be sole.
There's no way he slipped it in when handing him the knife
He said that it could've been anywhere if jimmy had picked a different word instead of sole. But if he didn't know what word he would pick why did he have the sole tool?
Mel : because it is all staged? And u r duped.
Tarik said that answer half heartedly
almost like it wasnt there
Why does everyone need to point out that it is fake. OF COURSE it's fake. We all know it's just a trick but we still don't understand how the heck he did that. That is the point.
It was rigged. He asked for an audience member that had READ the book. That's how Jimmy knew to pick the woman in an isle seat wearing all RED. And the paper in the shoe was not even possible unless rigged.
fake is different from rigged. get tat in ur small brain 1st before offering ur valuable advice
That woman is absolutely stunning! I am going crazy! She is drop dead gorgeous!
Did you just get out of jail?
@@MB-sj2yu literally 4 years late there buddy, but nah, there's just something about here tbh
@@onlinerguy o wow 4 years late oh no i did not realize that lol I have a feeling you just got outta jail
He said that if he had thought of a different word, it would've been in a different place, but the guy had a knife ready to be used for his shoe...
Armando villarreal I'm blown away by this somewhat obvious observation.
Lots of ppl carry pocket knives on them. It’s literally in the name.
The title in my browser tab just says Dan White Blows Jimmy. LMAO
lol at all the salty magic critics in the comments
Wowww that guy is awesome👏
Man, after watching these things i always tell myself that i will learn how to do it but i never do cause im too lazy.
Annly S just prepare it before the show with the audience member and Jimmy. That's what he did anyway.
Jorge Sánchez 😂 in this case it obvious that it is staged.
Annly S good that you noticed ^^ was worried. Some really simple but effective magic tricks are out there though, don't be discouraged
You can buy this trick. Brian Brushwood created it. It isn't cheap though.
ok. So here are my observations:
1) At 1:39, that card is in the middle area of the entire book. Toward the end, the ripped page looks closer to the end of the book.
2) 1:39. On the bottom of the right (odd) page (I assume this is page 273), there is a space before the new paragraph.
3) That space and paragraph disappear at 7:31. BUT!....
4) When the page is replaced, the paragraph and space are there on the ripped page...if it is actually the same one page we saw earlier
5) SO.... there are two scenarios here....
For some reason, the location of the ripped page looked further toward the end of the book than where the card sat earlier.
nobody:
absolutely nobody:
ppl in the comments: he must have cheated in some ways
oh seriously??? I THOUGHT HE IS A REAL WIZARD FROM HOGWARTS
True! Although with the mind reading thing - some people can do that - they're just really good at looking at the way the mouth is pursed & body language
Best trick ever!
L
Pantherkraft damn, I was convinced it was all fake, but this makes it believable
Pantherkraft but how would he know the page number was 272
Joshiejx had it marked or practiced it to the point where he always stopped on that page
Joshiejx he had the page prob nubbed or something with his finger so he knew what page he was flipping to when Jimmy put the card in. No matter when Jimmy said "stop" he woulda just made sure the card stopped at that page
Awesome awesome awesome!
2:50 the most staged "yeah" ever
This is so much more fun to watch than slight of hand. 👍😁
This is the first time I felt like this was staged :(
This is staged
Staged as in the audience member was a plant? There is a simpler solution to that. It's a classic force.
I can tell you for sure the book page disappearing was not
Basically just memorization, but the showmanship is what sells it!
but where did the card go?
No page looks like that when you tear it out :)
The real magic in this video is how absolutely beautiful that one girl is. My goodness
Arguably the best use of the book trick out there, nested 3 times
Well this wasn't all staged.
When he riffles through the book with the card, the card itself is a gimmick. It has a piece of page no. 272 sticked behind it. So wherever he stops page 272 will pop up anytime.
nah man, this is the work of the devil !
Hardik Tara or it's just a cover up for the "force" of the page with the first word "sole". If it were a real selection he'd just let him choose any word without needing a book. But it could be a gimmicked card too
Hardik Tara pleased I figured it out b4 seeing your answer. His clumsy separation and realignment of the split apart card at 1:25 and the following coincidentally card-sized death grip on the top corner of the book confirms it.
the card opened a fake page wich the magician already knew the word. the 272 page was already ripped and on jimmy's shoe
the harry potter book have the same 2 pages on the entire book and the only big word is half-hearted.
You don't need any magic trick to blow Jimmy's mind. His mind will self implode at least 50 times regardless who is in front of him during the taping of his show.
Jimmy Fallon acting improved alot clearly a rehearsed trick
What if the lady chose a House name (Gryffindor or Slytherin...) or Character name (Dumbledore or Hermione...) from Harry Potter? Does that dictionary include these words?
Akhilesh Tekade yeah, my first thought was "Dumbledore." Although he did ask her if it was a real word. She should have just chosen it anyways 😜
Leah Siemens 😂
cause it's a fake book with all small words, and one big word that she will have to notice, it's probably the only big long word on the page. every page of the book is probably like that.
I think he specified "a real word?" at some point to the lady
All prepared...if not?! True magic
forget Dan White, let's talk about the girl holding the harry Potter book😘
0:21 girl in the back tried so hard to get Jimmy's attention but she still got denied
That part didn't matter, though. She could have chosen any word, the guy is using an earpiece that tells him from a database what page the word is in the dictionary. He just needs about 10-15 seconds for his helper to type the word into the database and relay the answer to him.
staged but that girl was beautiful
yup. if they're gunna plant someone in the audience they might as well get the most attractive person they can find.
The girl wasn't a plant. No one was in on the trick.
explain the second part of the trick then? when she has the freedom to choose absolutely ANY word in the entire harry potter book.
Awesome
I hate his theriatrics..
Must be nervous.
But also I don't really like how magicians draw things out.
I enjoy the cut and dry magic I guess..
This is faker than Jimmy's Laugh
Jimmy is in in the act and he memorized the dictionary by letter..... Ooooooh
Fallon was in on it. he went straight to his right foot when it could have been either
Calvin Rhine he wasn't in on it. rewatch it again, Dan white clearly points to his right foot shoe.
That was so cool 😎
David Blaine is still the king
Lmao the roots guy was looking at it like wtf
Sure any magic "tricks" are staged/fake but this is just so obvious that it's not fun anymore.
Easy but amazing trick !
Thank goodness he didn't rip that page from the Harry Potter book...
Celines Gonzalez I know, right? 😜
Leah Siemens absolutely 😨😅
Dan looks at his "cheat sheet" in the back of book at 4:49
The word 'halfheartedly' doesn't exist in Harry potter and the Goblet of Fire :/
Busted
For anyone who thinks it's not pre-staged....look at how much is left behind "page 272" when the card is placed and how much less there is when Jimmy opens it at the end. Still a well orchestrated trick though, very smooth delivery
Come on! People believe that shit?
That was pretty amazing
Haven't watch the vid yet I know Jimmy will fake react everything
he does that to enhance our reaction
DJ Wilt He actually acted pretty realistically this time
Jimmy Two-Times You are wrong. If everyone does what you say then there would be no such thing as critic, only praise. Right?
The great "magic" of television and prerecorded shows is that you can also cut and edit out to make the illusions work. It's still a great trick thought.
except that there wasn't any editing to do the trick... -_-
Well that's the beauty of a magic trick, it gets the audience to guess what creative technique(s) the magician uses to pull the trick off is it not?
you guys are acting like magic is real or something all magic is staged lmao
Dan White makes a good salesman.
This shit was set up. How did Jimmy know to go to his right shoe straight away.
Steven Hyland yeah, I was thinking "soul" like maybe it was in his breast pocket or something 😜
Maybe cuz the magician pointed to the right one stupid
He had a 50/50 chance of choosing his right shoe. And your probably going to go to your more dominant side first.
how its done. step one , nph's book. you force the riffle (any time a magician asked you to tell him when to stop a riffle, rather then you riffle your self, he is forcing the riffle ) this means no matter when you say stop he will stop in a predetermined place. now you notice in the video , dan white does not open the book up all the way, this is because the page is already ripped. when he clloses the boo and removes the card he folds the page quick and you can actually spot him pocket the page. now this trick requires pre set up . he had to "load a replicant page" into jimmys shoe. this is something magicians do all the time in some ones pocket or personal belongings.
now for the harry potter book. this could be done one of a few ways . one the pages are fake and written so half heartedly is on most pages. or he memorizes large words in the book and their corresponding pages in the dictionary. this is way harder to do but I have seen some people do it. it is a fairly popular trick. so most likely they are fake pages. neither jimmy nor the auidence member are in on it.
best way to know an audience member is in on it is if either the magician picks them him self or picks by seat number .
might be the MOST staged truck I've ever seen before in my life!
Jimmy Fallon is a great actor ;)
Jimmy Fallon in such a bad actor why does nobody recognize this
Everyone recognises it, that's literally what half the comments are about
Guys stop calling it fake, MAGIC is FAKE there are no real wizards it's art and please learn to respect what he did. His act was pretty good
A good comment won't hurt
Adios
this was soooo obviously staged it makes me mad. Jimmy, the band member, and possibly the lady in the audience was in on this. I will never believe any magic trick I see on the internet untill someone does it right in front of me.
It wasn't staged. It just involved trick books.
this same exact trick was done on "Fool Us" in front of Penn&Teller
Its not staged. its a real trick.
This is absolutely a real trick. Diarmund needs to visit Magician school at some stage.
What a sad life man. Magic tricks are awesome. Why not believe them?
This is this guy's livelihood. This is how he attracts his audience. Not by doing silly staged tricks with everyone in on them like a clown at a kid's party. Do you think he's going to put his career in jeopardy by doing that?
MAGNETS!
First youtube video I ever disliked
Just look at 4:50 when he asks Taric to open the dictionary on page 325. He has it already written somewhere
