I am so happy they finally added the AN-X engine after so many years of anticipation. And with the improvements they made, this is definitely worth getting.
As a 10 year owner of the Yamaha MOXF6, this is the dream for me now. This is everything I've ever wanted from an instrument and more. Not jack of all trades, ace of all trades.
Nice, AN-X Synthesis was just what was needed for a perfect All-Inclusive Instrument with all of Yamaha's strengths. Hopefully all other features remain and those new ones come additionally. Its just sad, that after buying a Montage 8 some years ago, there is not enough budget left to go all in on that again. Maybe some time in the future...! 😅
Only a small stretch. I don’t hear pianists asking for PolyAT, but synthesists and keyboardists are crying out for it. In that regard, Yamaha have done the total opposite. Why they left it out of M6 and M7 is baffling, and screams of a rushed product. Either that or an upsell later when they release the M6x and M7x special editions in white…you know they are coming,
Facts! Exactly! Listening to the musicians! They added more knobs and buttons! The only thing it’s missing is more assignable outputs ! Should off had 8 outputs! I wish Akai would listen to us on these new mpcs like yahama is listening !
@X22GJP I hardly hear anyone complaining about that from their top line boards, but the MO, MoX, Modx step down lines. But, that is where they make the money by keep people buying the top line boards.
I would love to replace my Yamaha SY55 music synthesizer with this one after owning it for the past 32 years and getting it a little beat up. Yamaha, you make great synths!
Exactly, their marketing and product design here is a total joke. I am in the market for a synth with PolyAT and this is in my budget range. I was eyeing up the UDO Super Gemini, but waiting to see what the Montage M was about. Such a shame, because that AN-X engine combined with everything else is a really compelling package - but I don’t want 88 or weighted keys.
I love this synth, proud M8X owner here. Roland just updated the Fantom to include the Jupiter 8 & SH-101 emulations. Please Yamaha take this feedback & opportunity to make a proper CS-80 expansion for the Montage M 🙏🏼🔥🎹
The wait is over and Yamaha once again created a beast! Finally the all new Yamaha Montage is a beautiful workstation keyboard that look superior ecstatically as it sounds. This is worthy to be called a flagship of all flagships in this sector of workstation Synthesiser market in my opinion. I very much hope that Yamaha will present to us the all new Yamaha Genos EX/2 as after over 6 years wait, we seem to feel abandoned is this space of a worthy new flagship arranger workstation segment. Does loyalty works with Yamaha? Weldon once again and make us proud to be Yamaha musicians by rewarding us to a New Yamaha Genos EX/2 or whatever it will be called "This Month" ...
Wifi for software updates, new sounds and others?.. a good sequencer? work with user samples? a chord match program like an a Arranger keyboard?.. low price for better sales? or again extremely high in the price? (please...) thanks! nice work Yamaha.
Because that would take inventiveness and Yamaha has none. All they do is expand on what was there before. How does more GBs make something sound better? Why is FMX still stuck at 88 algo's? Why can't you roll your own? (too much work to allow it) That A.I. Fmx mixer thing is the same. The same low res offering. Nothing here is new. Can you drag points of an envelope on the touch screen? Does the synth remember the preset it was on last when you turn it on? Have they named wave forms properly this time around? Wait for real reviews by non-shills to find out. Coming soon a cheaper version that will be upgraded to be identical as the 'flagship'. Complete with the same knobs and available in white... When will people learn?
Great Demo, but as a user of Modx (old version) I am not overly convinced (For a whopping 4k+ € price tag). Both the previous Arpeggiator and the Sequencer there, though capable, do lack any step editing possibility, completely neglecting the dawless users (like me), by always arguing, it's a synth not a workstation. For being a synth, the FM-editing is tedious at least, just a fancied-out touch-screen version of a DX7, not a button-click-orgy but an unintuitive screen-tap-storm. Hopefully, at least, this will get better, along with the part-FX, which were not on par with the master-FX in terms of quality (especially the reverb). Also, maybe someone could think of making it load on startup the last used patch/combi. I would really hope that users of that machine get step-editing of Arpeggiator / Rhythm Patterns, instead of browsing 1000s of predefined ones, or needing a PC for that, and a capable sequencer which is on par with the competition (Fantom, K2700, Nautilus) in that price range. Good sound and good demo video is not everything. Yamaha wants to sell their old and not in a very user-friendly manner supported product line in a new guise, instead of refreshing it substantially. On the other hand, if there will be a Montage vst, that is a very interesting prospect. I would buy a used 2-in-1 laptop for 300,- and utilize it like a standalone machine.
Korg Nautilus has string resonance. Roland Fantom has string resonance. Yamaha P-250 (released 2003) has string resonance. My Yamaha Montage 8 does not have string resonance. Why can this effect (VRM or VRM lite) not be added to Montage? It can't be the lack of computing power (see Yamaha P-250).
Looks great, but why only 16 notes polyphony on the AN-X engine? Unless there's a lot of CPU being eaten up by seriously accurate VA modeling, 16 seems kind of low. Hope it's at least multitimbral, letting you split up those maximum 16 notes on different AN-X patches and tones.
After having a Montage 7 Mk1 for some time now, I am feeling positive about much of the information coming through. The only thing I find perplexing from Yamaha is.. No Poly-AT for M6/7, I do think Yamaha are going to get their pants pulled down over this, so perhaps we will see a re-enactment of Korg Nautilus with their adaptation of AT kit's sometime in the future? From excitement to hesitation now...M7 with no Poly-AT :(
Same feeling here ... I bet Yamaha will pull a "korg" in a year or 2 and make you able to purchase a poly AT update for 500-1000 bucks 😐... maybe even a "FULL" korg and only make it avilable for the M6 😱 so little love for people that likes the 76 key versions 😪
Es muy buen teclado, pero para música latina los brass son complicados crear que suenen a latino, le falta potencia, el korg es fuerte también, pero sus pianos son exquisitos.
Great Keyboard, cleaner, fatter and more dynamic sound than the previous Montage! Finally AWM2+,FM-X,AN-X on steroids .Very good demo !! (by Dom Sigalas, imho)
Why no Poly-Aftertouch on 61 & 76 models? That's a silly decision Yamaha, after waiting these many years. Why literally made it a big deal for 88? Many of us prefer 76 keys. Please don't say things such as without GEX Hammer Action, you can't have Poly-AT. Please learn from the "Waldorf - Iridium Synthesizer", it has got synth action keybed but still got Polyphonic-AfterTouch. Total disappointment Yamaha. We cant get the M7 and M6 to use their full potential......
PAT makes even sense on 37 keys, which is proven by my Hydra explorer. I think manufacturers like Yamaha are fearful of exploring this area -and failing again (economical). Roland made two PAT Masterkeyboards a long time ago, and Elka, too, and there were a few synths with this feature (Ensoniq and GEM I think), but it was abandoned. For almost 20 years. Why ? - Maybe, because musicians couldn't handle it or (believed that they) didn't need it. It's a studio feature (if you aren't a PAT virtuoso), not for sweaty live performances where nobody listens carefully. Or so they say. I love this, though (or because ?) I am not a trained or performing musician. But it is extremely satisfying to have a sound building up at different forces of your fingers.
It seems whenever a new keyboard comes out, they play music that is over produced.. Sure they want to show what it can do, but would you play a tune like this on a gig ? In this case I will keep my standard Montage 88.. it works great....
Where's the New Syth? I sold my Montage and miss not playing it, screen was well dated and no seqencer which is dissapointing. Have a new oled bright screen and new engines please.
Who really wants Poly-Aftertouch on a Hammer bed??? Its meant for all synth purists. Hammer is for Pianists dear Yamaha. What's the point of having ANX/CS80 on board but no PolyAT compared to M8x?

Why is the poly at available only on the 88 key version? Is there a technical reason why this feature is not available on the other models?
