Total agreement, more satisfying making your own and they are actually much better too!

I say if you can make something yourself, you should give it a go. Chances are yours will look more realistic than the perfectly finished stuff one can buy, and in your case they look a lot better than the perfect ones on sale

A really excellent tutorial - thanks. Your steel coils look so much better that the R-T-P made ones. I will definitely have a go at those (another job on the "to do" list!). Thanks for telling us the paints and powders you used. Very useful. Vivian.

I've made mine in the same way using thin card and Pritstick glue , made the Speedo banding from sticky labels cut into thin strips and coloured black with a permanent marker ,

I knew from the title that you were an Englisher. You guys call freight cars "wagons". The steel coils have ragged edges that you can see. You should have sanded those really smooth. Cheers from eastern TN

Great information thank you. Just bought the short accurascale coil A’s so these are perfect for those. I like hoods on them but you high all of that fantastic detail. I am sure the odd one must have run without it’s hood. Well if not there will be a few running on my model railway without them . Thanks for the great video 👍

Had my eye on them to, but haven't got any yet because of the fact you can't see the load 🤔

Nice job. I share your view - why buy something that you can make yourself?
    Spot-on.

Agree with you totally on not buying stuff. So many "hobbyists" are only about "BUY BUY BUY".

Did the coils ever have some sort of banding strap on them.

Yes, but everything I tried seemed to be too big!
Wasn't until I'd finished editing and starting to upload that I thought of using a decal, transfer, black Lining would work well I think.....

@@Wallsrail I used black thread for when I had a rake of cambrian ones but that was over 30 yrs ago, but I like your idea. I was going too say scale model scenery but there ratchet straps & too wide
