An excellent video showing what can be achieved to improve the appearance of an off the shelf tank wagon. I particularly like how the chipping effect was achieved. The added detail is very inspiring along with the different weathering methods makes this video a priceless source of reference. Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

These tankers are practically everywhere, and cheap too. I’ve often wanted to give them a lease of life, but only after seeing somebody do something with them, so thank you ever so much for sharing this project with us

Absolutely fantastic 👍🏻 From a toy to an excellent ferry wagon 😄 That was a really great video with some brilliant all round tips. Shame we stopped the ferry trains as it gave a great verity of freight trains running on the network 🤣 The channel tunnel has never full utilised its potential which is sad really when you see the hundred and thousands of lorries scrambling to the port of Dover with cheap eastern block drivers 🙁 8 mpg most lorries achieve at best!! I no because I’m a lorry driver lol 😆 But I move mobile MRI, C/T scanners for the veterinary hospitals so at least they can’t go by rail 🤣 Keep safe and always I enjoy you videos cheers Stevie 😎

Le Chunnel done themselves out of big amounts of traffic by not allow dangerous goods! Mind you, rail management hasn't helped either!! Nor Governments.

An excellent video - really like your painting and weathering methods. I always thought that old Lima tank wagon looked similar to some of those seen in BR Speedlink trains, and you have given a great presentation of what can be achieved. Thanks for posting. Vivian.

I'm glad you are old school with paint choice like me. Yes I agree enamels take longer to clean brush, longer to stir the sludge in the tin, however the Matt is a true Matt, gloss flows and doesn't show brush marks, they be used in a single coat, and most of the time will go direct to surface with no primer.
Fed up doing intricate detailing with acrylics only to find they need a second coat which ruins what I've done.
    Thoughts appreciated...

When I first started out in the modelling world 40 odd years ago, enamel paint was the only viable option. Acrylics of the time, as I remember them, were cheap n nasty things that not many would use. My then supplier only stocked enamels.
The armour modellers that I watch only seem to use acrylics and swear by them.
I dipped my toe into that type of paint a year ago or so with not good results!!
Having invested a few £££ into them I thought it was time to revisit them and make them work!
      Ammo Mig Yes
      Mr Hobby hmm not sure
      Vallejo not tried them
Railmatch acrylics, not for me thanks - enamels yes

@@Wallsrail thanks for that. I think we are similar age.
I've gone back to enamels myself

I can remember watching all the different continental wagons being loaded on to the train ferry at Dover western docks. They would assemble all the wagons at Dover town yard ready to be propelled along Admiralty pier on to the 'Par Der Calais' train ferry.
Sadly all gone now.(There is a couple of youtube films showing the operation)

I used to tow that sort about when I drove for RFD. As you say all gone. Traffic flows continued through the tunnel, but not like it was on the ferry.
Must have a watch of that to
      👍

I have noticed with Lima that sometimes they can go really overboard with the detail. Their 9400 Pannier is a world away from the Hornby GWR Pannier, I got one for £8 the Lima and it makes my Hornby-Triang one look very much a "toy" in comparison, same with my Lima 33 making the Hornby 37 I own look again subpar.

    • @Wallsrail
      @Wallsrail  3 года назад

I find some Lima models as ok, the 47 still holding its own even now. ebay prices would agree! Let down by its motor although replacements are available.
Some I won't touch and others, like this one, I see as a basic model crying out for an upgrade!!

    Artistic License cover's a multitude.
I've been binge watching your vids.
    Question.
If you convert the real buffer height 41.5" - 42" from rail to the center of the buffer would that not give you the direct ratio of what it should be on your model.
    Brilliant work by the way.

      Err yes probably?
When doing this sort of thing, what looks right is equally important as measurements?
1/2 a millimetre can also be corrected by swapping wheel sets to another manufacturer, even though there shouldn't be any difference 🤔
      Thanks 👍

Really great transformation, you mentioned the other data, the big grid is max speed for a given loading of the wagon and the others are dimensions and volumes of the wagon. Could you you tell us whose decals you used
