    Hi, meant to add if I may plse , also have a gap iid tool but indeed still prefer to use my brake pressure bleeder seeing u can add a decent amount of new brake fluid in the pressure bleed container , very easy as it comes with a screw on cap for the master cylinder , find it a lot easier if its just yourself doing the brake bleed , think I read that the , ABS module bleed is only required if u allow air to enter the master brake cylinder , also see that apart from the DOT 4 spec that it should also be class 6 , I also got some brake spanner’s that have a built in non return valve , they do all different sizes as a kit or individual spanner’s, of course hope none of that comes across in trying to teach u how to suck eggs , thks again for sharing these videos along with ur time and effort , it’s gratefully appreciated, all the best, Gary from the uk

    One thing to note is that Land Rover LR3/LR4 calls for "Low Viscosity" DOT 4 Brake fluid. Thin fluid is mainly for quicker response of ABS/DSC/Terrain Response as these Land Rover heavily rely on when off roading. Although you'll not notice in normal driving but when off roading with terrain response and hard braking is when you may notice a slight delay/difference in ABS actuation. I know my pedal a bit spongy using non LV DOT 4 brake fluid, until I flushed it with LV fluid.

    Thank you Mike. I really enjoy watching your video's. Amazing what you accomplish with all that hard work. Look foward to further adventurres.

      Thank you so much. I recently purchased an electric motorcycle (dirt bike) that is a complete mess. We are going to fully restore it back to original in an upcoming series. I’m very excited.

    Hi Mike, thank you so much for sharing all your fun with your Discovery. I enjoy all your videos. About the Launch tool, I tried the key fog programing function in a Range Rover HSE 2007 (L322). It did not work. Poor information online and the instructions from the tool are arbitrary. I retuned it. I am planning to buy the GAP tool.

      Some of the comments have said manual pumping of the breaks may be harmful to the master cylinder and they advise using an alternate method such as vacuum bleeding.

    Hi Mike. Loving the videos and the complete series. You have a wonderful way of breaking down information that is inspiring. I’m sure you’re keeping a tally of all the expenses $$$ for the refurbish (tools, parts, etc.). Are you also going to post/chat about those? I’d love to get a sense of how much money and perhaps amount of time you dedicated to the project. 😊

    • @wafflesquare

      Hi Christopher. I list the parts in the description of every video so you can check current prices. It is impossible for me to judge the amount of time for each procedure since setting up cameras and lighting for each step takes double to triple the time.

    Another great video. Some how I thought that the engine should be on for the ABS pump to work, hum… maybe not… .
    I guess the Launch tool is not that great after all, I would still try it, if it was available here.

    Here in Oz , the LR3 manual mentions replacement of brake fluid every three years . And a big thankyou for your transmission fluid video . I did a double flush ( 4.5lt each occasion ) with Lifeguard 6 and the system is vastly improved , but not new-perfect as there's some wear in there . Second flush is a must imho . Burnt my wrist on the exhaust though ....... LOL . Incidentally , sucking out the fluid from the rear left is advised , as pumping a brake master cylinder is a classic way to damage the piston seal with over travel in a cylinder . Are you sure the original fluid wasn't red to start with ??

    • @wafflesquare
      @wafflesquare  11 месяцев назад +1

      Entirely possible. I’ve never seen that color fluid before and the previous owner wasn’t up to date on any maintenance so we may never know.

    • @markansas1337
      @markansas1337 11 месяцев назад +1

      Does that mean the GAP tool procedure tries to get all of the old fluid out from the rear left, or do you still need to do each line separately?

    • @wafflesquare
      @wafflesquare  11 месяцев назад +1

      The GAP tool went through each line one at a time. For the sake of brevity, I didn’t show the entirety of the procedure.

    Awesome video! With the probe that reads water content, is there a cleaning process for the probe between uses? I just wonder if it kept giving you the same reading because it wasn’t cleaned/reset beteeen uses. Just a thought.

    • @wafflesquare
      @wafflesquare  11 месяцев назад

      Great question. I immediately cleaned the probe after every test to ensure no brake fluid dripped onto the paint.

  • @LeLilley1

    Hmmmm . . . looking over the records of my 07 LR3 I don't see any record of changing the brake fluid (though admittedly, the records I received are far from thorough!). I guess changing the brake fluid needs to go on my to do list!!! As I have never, ever replaced break fluid or even done ANY brake work, right now I'm not comfortable trying to do this myself. I'm sure RUclips may help me gain confidence to try . . . but the downside of a "poor job" is just scary!! Unfortunately, I don't have any friends around that work on their own cars.

    • @wafflesquare
      @wafflesquare  6 месяцев назад

      Some maintenance tasks can definitely be daunting. I will say replacing the brake fluid was nothing compared to servicing the transmission in episode 3.

    How important it is to update the compressor firmware on the LR3/4? I heard they can be unreliable.

    • @wafflesquare
      @wafflesquare  11 месяцев назад +1

      In our case we had the wrong firmware installed (Hitachi instead of AMK). Watch episode 4 to see how we diagnosed the air suspension.

      @@wafflesquare Was the incorrect firmware a Launch problem? How did you know?

    • @wafflesquare
      @wafflesquare  6 месяцев назад

      No. The previous owner had replaced the Hitachi air compressor with an AMK. I used the GAP IID tool (OBD reader) to determine they didn’t change the firmware on the LR3’s computer. Watch episode 4 to see how I resolved the issue.
