The backstory: Two years ago I was inspired by a video of an amateur skier doing the Murren Inferno race, and decided that I was up for a challenge. in 2019 I was finally accepted into the race. It was harder and scarier than expected (the camera flattens the steep bits and, as you can hear from my breathing, altitude plays a part), but it really is a genuinely accessible amateur event. I‘m only an average skier so was nowhere near as quick as the fastest but still beat 400 people and learnt a lot about the event, myself and my abilities. Next time I'll also wax my skis...
Heavy snow before the event meant the full 15km course was open for the first time since 2012 and thankfully the weather on the day was clear - I can’t imagine doing this in low viz.
