It’s evident in the way you love each other, your daughter, and those around you. Keep shining your light! We appreciate you all the way from Texas! p.s. I have been type 2. Requiring medication for 30 years. Drugs pushing my pancreas that long have somewhat burned it out. Now I am dependent on fast insulin at meals and slower insulin to regulate blood sugar through the night.
Hang in there. My last A1c check was 5.3 😄

    • @SnowPink90

Oh wow that’s great!! I can only wish mine were that low. I’ve been a T1D for 52yrs and I’ve never been that low in my A1C’s, even when my mom looked after my diabetes closely. My body is comfortable at 6-7. Under 6 I get very nauseous. I’ve had 20 surgeries with my 21st coming up in the summer. Is it because of being a diabetic? Who knows, but a lot of them had to do with stuff that non-diabetics have surgery on.
      Keep up the great work!!🩷

The thing about getting insulin in the thighs is that it doesn’t absorb as quickly as the arms or the stomach and when it does finally absorb it drops your blood sugar quickly and significantly instead of gradually so it’s the worst location to get insulin out of the 3 spots

Devin…omg thank you for sharing! I’m in tears and have been. My (just turned) 3 year old daughter was just diagnosed. Figuring out the insulin, the dexcom always going off, the educational piece- preschool (who will administer insulin), the constant fear and sad/upset we get when having to make her wait to eat and not being able to have watermelon when everyone else is…it’s so hard!! You are a warrior!! Please any and all advice welcomed!! Xoxo

    • @SnowPink90
      @SnowPink90 Год назад +3

Isn’t that different. This is a long time ago but when I was first diagnosed with T1D at 9yrs old I was aloud watermelon and I was surprised at how much, but I guess that’s because I was outside running around and riding my bike. Even though watermelon is low on carbs it’s higher in sugars. My son became a T1D at age 5 and looking after his diabetes was so different than when my mom looked after mine as a kid.
As a treat I’d allow my son to have a piece of cake because I knew what it was like not to have a thin slice of cake. I would just give him a couple of units to offset. I didn’t do this too often, but it made him feel included.
Now that 5yr old boy is a 32yr old man that’s on a pump and manages his sugars in a great way. Saying no while others are getting is such a hard thing to do, but then it’s up to you to maybe give her a very thin piece of watermelon or none at all. 🤷‍♀️ To a 3yr old would it matter? I don’t know, it’s hard to say.
It’s all so confusing at first but you’ll the hang of it as time goes on.🤗🥰🩷

Hey there - t1 here since i was 3 and I'm also a registered dietitian....Please find a new endocrine team - they should not be having you just figure out the insulin yourself on such a young child and no food should be off limits with proper coverage - also we teach to always have the child eat FIRST then take the bolus of insulin just in case they don't eat as much as expected, and then you gave too much insulin. You are doing amazingly, find a team that will give you nothing but support - sending so much love ❤

My diabetic doctor said if your BS’s are high drink a lot(Like 8oz every 1/2hr) of water to bring your sugars down, give your insulin too but drink water to flush out those sugars. I’ve found that it helps with speeding up that process and that crummy feeling doesn’t stay as long. Us diabetics try to do our best and that’s all we can do. Take care and have a great weekend!!😍😍

I just love you all! Devin I can’t imagine having to stick myself all the time. I have a urostomy due to radiation from cancer damage my bladder. Having a urostomy can be so aggravating with getting my orders on time because I can’t go with out a bag. Then sleeping every night with night bag attached I am constantly rolling myself in the tubing then it pops off and I flood the bed of course with urine. It’s so aggravating. It limits me a lot but man am I so thankful. When I got cancer at 38 weeks pregnant I felt like I had been given a death sentence. Total of 29 surgeries from age 27 to now 39. I had leiomyosarcoma and super aggressive and has over 50% chance it will come back. Bring young with medical problems is so hard. Through God he has given me life and has let me continue to be here for my son. I can not complain about medical but it does get aggravating. So I can relate having a permanent illness/life change to medical but I can’t imagine doing what you do. Your my hero! Sorry that was a lot. I’m wanting to share my testimony online and have had several tell me I need to write a book. I have so many holy smokes moments

It is definitely hereditary. I was recently diagnosed as being pre diabetic. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm thinking most of the time once your diabetic, always a diabetic. Unless you can reverse it with diet. My son was diagnosed at age 21 as a T1D and he has that thing that Devon put on her leg. Can't remember what it's called lol. It's synced to his iPhone so he can constantly check his BS.

I have a love hate relationship with my CGM. I hate wearing it. I love being free from the thing.... only for a short while. Then I realize that the thing (as temperamental as it can be) when I get a good run, provides me with a slight sense of freedom that I need. I have a demanding, physically intense job that requires me to be on point. My Medtronic system helps me in that regard.
All of you who are struggling with this disease, know that this disease cannot be 'controlled' it can be 'managed'.
Be patient with yourself. You are human. We all are. I know how very frustrating this struggle is. Keep pushing ahead. One day and night at a time. I am rooting for you!

I do Lantus once a day at night before bed. Then Humalog whenever I eat. The pumps freak me out. Always have, IDK why. Been type 1 since I was 7 and I'm 32 now. Start eating low carb. Try to top out at 100 grams if you can. Lower is better. Eat protein. Careful with what veggies you eat. There's hidden carbs in em. A cup of cooked broccoli raises my blood sugar as much as a can of coke would.... swear to God. Really strange. But yea, super low carb and plenty of protein. The A1C will go down. AND GO TO THE GYM, or at least exercise 3 or 4 days a week for 45 minutes of you can. I know with kids it'll be hard, but you can do it. Routine. Build a routine and it gets real easy

Hi Devin! I also have to test myself, as I am pre diabetic. I found it doesn’t hurt as much if you prick the side of your fingers instead of the pad of your finger. Give it a try and I wish you well. 😊

I love seeing these kind of videos helps me with my husband that is tyoe 1 also and he is just now getting on the dexcom and omnipod finally after 2 years of being diagnosed with type 2 and then shortly after type 1! Its been hard rollercoaster! But so helpful to see how you manage it all and to know he isnt the only one with struggles with highs and then all of a sudden it drops low! Crazy! But love y'all! 💕

@@tobytaylor2823 No because it’s actually quite complex, so I would have to leave a lot out or simplify it. You will be much better informed reading a detailed explanation from a reliable source on the internet 🙂

I am not a Dr. But I hear a carnivore diet really really helps diabetes. Lots of videos on the carnivore diet.

As a person who comes from a long line of family members with diabetes, I was taught not to deprive myself of something I want, if I dont have it, it only makes me want it that much more. I will eat what I want at that time, but only a little, I dont overindulge. The feeling I have of needing that certain food will go away. My doctor told me the same thing. Good luck on everyone's journey.!!

I recently found out I am insulin resistant and almost a pre diabetic. I just started taking a subcutaneous injection once weekly for insulin resistance. Thank you for sharing you DM journey. Any tips on how you exercise with a little one? Also how do you keep yourself on track with eating healthy? I seem to fall short on that. God bless and thanks for sharing.

I guarantee you have a vitamin D deficiency, which is the primary cause of insulin resistance. Try supplementing magnesium and D3 and you might see instant results. Good luck
