Fishing with the locals, no better way to learn the local waters and techniques. I love eating fresh caught fish. Not a sushi kinda guy , but do like my fish fried, baked, broiled or grilled. Great video guys... Thanks.
Thomas cheers Thomas! We think so, too. And connecting with locals is a great way to immerse ourselves in the local culture.
It's awesome that a local would just take you out fishing! That's so different than I'm use to where people want to hide their fishing spot. My wife is so intrigued by the fishing. She loves fish so much...especially if it's fresh. I like fish but can't eat it more than once or twice a week...More of a beef, lamb, or pork guy. We have a freezer on board so keeping meats is easy. I would call what your doing taking the sampler tour then you can choose what you like best and go back for the Cook's Tour. There is much to fall in love with. Keep living the dream!
Great job learning from the locals.
Thanks Nick!
A very "natural" footage, and tutorial too! For fishing Ryan is getting his nose sunburn...!!
After catching a fish and bringing it aboard, a few DROPS of alcoholic drink (rum, ouzo ect) in the fish gill will kill it immediately, avoiding agony to the poor fish....
I love fresh row fish, marinated (carpaccio): make fillets and poor lime/lemon juice for a while; then drain it and dress it with little salt, pepper, origano and olive oil. For big fishes, slice its upper part for making other recepies, but then make fillets for immediate consumption with the part near the tail (the best)!
Love Elena's enthusiasm for "paradise" lifestyle.... Buon vento!
Now thats fishing
Very Nice Video!♥️👌👍
I love your humility and admiration for both the nature and culture in the Caribbean. Your stories are just the best, because they just look authentic and you’re not trying to show off. Going fishing with the local fishermen, that was just perfect. I wish you all the best on your adventures, save travels, and stay the way you are!
Thanks so much, Pavel. We're just two scruffy young-ish sailors - nothing to show off here 😉
Learning from the locals... priceless 👍⛵️
Yup! It was amazing to watch.
This episode brought childhood memories, me and dad fishing in the Venezuelan Caribbean.
From a boat, beach, rocky wall.....
We used squid as bait...... and never went back home empty handed.
Thank you!
Falling in love with the Caribbean. Understood! I was first there as a young yacht crew in 1970 and every time I return it feels more and more like home. Hope I get back next year.
Thanks for the time you put into these videos.
Glad your safe and having a great time! Fair winds!
You both scored when you got Skua. Beautiful boat!
Cheers Jeremy! We think so too :)
Looks like your really enjoying Caribbeans
"Fishing with Ryan" could be a new revenue stream .... lol
Haha :) I can run fishing charters from our dinghy!
Elena, what a masterful and touching edit. Brother Ryan, was all smiles and quite giddy. The new found affinity Ryan has with the local fishman is touching. As the scripture states: ' there's more happiness in giving than receiving.' the fact that Ryan provided your/hs boat put a smile on his face and food for sale for his neighbors and family. a win-win all around. as for me, here in the southwest of France, amongst the oak trees, wild sheep and wild boars that destroy my lawn, i wish that i could share a bottle of Monbazillac with you two and enjoy the sushi as well. Sweet soy sauce, wasabi, and fresh ginger make a delightful enhancement to this ocean repas. I did not miss the clothes pin neither, a touch of your sea home.
Hi are you a JW
Cheers William! This was actually a rare Ryan edit :D He knew the fishing footage inside out, so it felt right to task him with it :D He did a great job with it.
COOL !!!!! I get a real Kick out of your reactions, and the looks of Amazement on your face's..... When he showed his big catch, with his Red Sunburned Nose that was priceless !!!! You Must take a still Pic of him in the cockpit when he first got back from fishing, That will make a great pic of him for framing......Take care of each other guy's, and Have FUN !!!!
Good to know someone's managing to catch fish!! We never have any luck!
Haha thanks guys ❤️ Ryan fishes every single night and catches a fish every week or two. It takes a lot of effort 😊
Cheers guys!
Thanks for watching, Trev!
Thank you for taking us on your crossing adventure it was exciting, and for your videos of the beautiful lagoons with there amazing marine life.. Take time to notice the perfection in it all that's why it's there. Stay safe grow in Love.
Great job
Love this episode, the fishing was really cool and great catch.
Thanks Jonas! 🙂
Excellent thank you, interesting authentic fishing trip!
Cheers Martin!
If fishing was easy theyed call it catchin ... lol
Always get to know your locals in a new area because they know what gear works and what bait to use.
Ive been a comercial fisherman and sportsman angler all my life amd Im still learning new stuff all of time. .... ⛵💕
Yes, every area is different.
Great seeing Ryan smiling.....well done mate
Cheers :)
The English in the tropics! Yeah, the pair of you keep up with the suncreen and covers........from the skin cancer capital of the world! Luv ya work!
Wow another amazing video, looks like Ryan had so much fun fishing, no nice to see it all caught by hand 🙂
Thanks so much, Andrew.
💖🦋🌈⛵️ Well being forth isn’t that bad 😳 This is another wonderful episode 🌺🌼⛵️🌈💖🥂🥂🍷🍷
Thanks ever so much!
You both put big smiles on our faces 😃❤️ and you definitely bring out the best in one another ❤️🦋🦋💙 cheers 🥂
Aw that's so sweet! Thank you.
Lovely video, thank you!
This is my favourite video of yours, great work!
Smush yaaay! Thanks so much!
well done ryan for going out with a local. it truly amazes me how many cruisers have no idea how to catch fish.
Cheers Iain!
What a lovely video guys. And the Tuna looks great. Fresh Tuna steak mmmmm. Here it’s out from our local Sainsbury’s counter. Not quite the same.
Seen a Sadler 26 at what looks like a good price. Possibly tempted but mooring here is an arm and a leg. Need to think hard on a limited pension.
Anyway I wish you fair winds tides and currents.
Wow that was right up my street, sailing and fishing. I have travelled the world fishing and even the Arctic circle for Cod and Halibut the size of Ryan. Great watch !
Yeeepppeee! :)
Looks like fun. I want to do this one day.
Cheers! Hope you get to do it.
I remember when I was a kid and this kind of fishing was still a thing in Adriatic sea here in the "Med" a few decades ago. Now its almost completely dead and commercial fishing is destroying what's left of the life in it.
Yeah, you don't need fancy gear. 90% of your success depends on the bait and live one is usually the best. Small squids are probably golden for bigger fish, if you can keep them alive. I do not agree on the spear fishing though. It is overall sustainable yes, just not for the most tastier kind of fish ;)
I live on the eastern side of Vancouver Island which is in the Pacific. You can go to an area here and cast your line right from the shore and catch different species of salmon pretty easily. The hard part is getting the fish onshore before the seals come along and steal it from you.
Haha! That sounds like fun and we LOVE salmon. We miss it a little :) We hope to see Vancouver Island one day.
Amazing video 💙
Ryan has come out of his shell lately. He was a very quiet guy earlier. Looks like you have learnt how to fish as well. No sushi for me though 😊
Cheers Duncan.
Doesn't matter what you do, get information from the locals. You'll avert dangers and learn the best way of doing things.
Very true!
Awesome!! I am in Turkey now and i have a travel rod with me. I have just artifical lures but after this video i am going to the takle shop. Lovely video as always, you guys are living the dream!
Thanks ever so much, Flo.
Portuguese bag on Caribbean.... yeah..."continente". Good journey through the caribbean.
Haha we also have a mercadona bag :D most cruisers here have one or two!
great Idea to connect with locals and work with them !
Thanks Martin. It was super interesting and fun.
Fish..our favorite dish!
Along with our favorite boaters! What could be better??!!
We do get fish from the river Niger though a few hundred meters away..not quite the same as you guys have....Love from land locked Mali.
Sounds cool though! :) Love from the Caribbean x
Nice catch! How come you don’t bleed the fish? Is it because they spoil faster in the hot weather?
Who is this happy joyous crew of sailors. Glad you sailed West?
SO HAPPY! This is what boat life should be.
@@SailingKittiwake you folks going to go through the Panama Canal?
Fredrick Rourk probably not, it’s crazy expensive (it doubled in price this year).
:)
What had you done with the fish at the end of the video?
It’s skipjack tuna. I rolled it in sesame seeds, popped it in a very hot pan until all sides went light brown, and cut it in slices. We had it with soy sauce and cucumber. You can see the cooking process right before the final shot of the dish.
@@SailingKittiwake yummy.
8:34 That is why it is called fishing and not catching.
Dammit
Haha aw.
Great to see you are still managing to explore in these tricky times. We are hoping to cruise later this month, any difficulties with clearing in and out now?
It all depends on individual countries. Research each country's regulations and make sure you're OK getting stuck in each one, as regulations change often.
Sailing Kittiwake
Yes we are not even certain of flying from the UK...flights reg cancelled
Second time watching this, and I believe you have already answered my question, but after binge watching her almost full refit, how much safer does she feel compared to your old muilt hull? Because seriously she looks tough! I think you both did great!
Thanks so much, Trev. Kittiwake was a bluewater cat, so we felt safe on both. Skua feels more like a go-anywhere boat, though.
Tayana37 is on my short list. You seem to find it good for sailing down here in the Caribbean. Hurricane season soon over.
She's a dream to sail down here. Yes, we're looking forward to it :)
After some time in the Caribbeans and much more time in the Med, which one is more expensive to cruise to? Thanks, Cheers, Richard
The Caribbean if you watch your wallet and don't use marinas.
mmmmm grouper mmmmmm
First again
You must hold the record now :D :D Thanks!
Ryan, I'm concerned you may have melanoma skin cancer at 4:40 on your left collarbone. Probably just something you've had all your life but it's black and irregular shaped and quite large. Marks most of the boxes for melanoma if it is growing larger.
He's had it all his life ;)
You said "today we are doing nothing, just working" how can that be? Doing nothing/ just working?
Working isn't something our viewers are interested in watching, so for the channel it's "nothing", ie "nothing worth filming."
